Course Amendment

HIT 192 – Modification (3 Credits)

Amendment Rationale: On December 8, 2016 the Curriculum Committee reviewed and approved HIT 192, Professional Practice Experience and Registered Health Information Technologist Exam Prep. The course title should reflect the RHIT national certification which is Technician, not a Technologist. The Business Division is requesting a Fast Track correction for the course title. It should be Professional Practice Experience and Registered Health Information Technician Exam Preparation. This needs to be changed before the accrediting team visits Leeward CC on March 16-17, 2017. Initially, the Curriculum Committee was going to fast track a proposal modification but we decided that there was no need to fast track a proposal modification. Since we had already reviewed HIT 192 and approved it (action: 21 approve, 0 disapprove, 0 abstain) all we needed to do was amend minutes of the Curriculum Committee approval of HIT 192 on December 8, 2016 since it was to change just one word. We would go back and amend the minutes of the December 8, 2016 Curriculum Committee meeting to reflect this change. A vote was taken to amend the minutes to reflect this change. Petersen Gross, Curriculum Support Coordinator would go into KSCM and just change the word Technologist to Technician. The Curriculum Committee vote to amend the minutes of the meeting when HIT 192 was approved was as follows: Action: 19 approve, 0 disapprove,0 abstain The Curriculum Committee request the faculty senate to approve of this amendment to the minutes of the meeting when HIT 192 was approved changing the word Technologist to Technician to meet accreditation purposes.

AS-DMED – Associate in Sciences –Digital Media

Production

Description: The Associate in Sciences in Digital Media Production provides creative individuals with the art and design training needed to explore and express ideas using leading-edge technology and skill-sets. Students receive integrated digital media training in one of six specializations: Animation and Motion Graphics, Creative Media, Digital Photography, Digital Video for the Web, and Internet Publishing. Students become life-long learners, developing the skills required for a vast array of digital media communications, two-dimensional and three-dimensional animation, video games and interactive media. Proposal Rationale/Justification: The Information and Computer Science Department is making changes to their curriculum. Specifically, they have: Removed ICS 151 and ICS 251 from their curriculum. Changed ICS 113 Database Fundamentals to ICS 129 Introduction to Databases. The courses offered in the Internet Publishing Specialization are affected by these changes, which necessitates the modification. ICS 111 is a prerequisite for ICS 215, one of the required courses in the Internet Publishing Specialization. In April 2016, Adobe discontinued the Flash application, and replaced it with Animate. As a result, DMED 122's course title needed to be changed. The new course is now DMED 122, Web Animation.

This is not a substantive change.

Program Learning Outcomes: 1) Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills for digital media

project planning and use of necessary collaborative skills. 2) Communicate clearly and concisely, visually, verbally and in writing,

using digital media techniques appropriate for the intended audience 3) Identify and explain digital media standards of professionalism as

they pertain to personal and work-related endeavors. 4) Exhibit a portfolio of digital media projects related to the chosen

Specialization at the conclusion of the Associate in Science degree work.

Program Curriculum Plan: The program consists of general education courses including oral and written communication, critical thinking, visual color discrimination, and information retrieval.
