Program Overview

The use of genetic testing in the diagnosis and management of he-matopoietic malignancies is rapidly evolving. The goals of this work-shop are to share up-to-date information on the genetic features of hematologic diseases and the impact of genetic testing on the clini-cal diagnosis and classification of myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms. The Workshop will consist of a series of case presentations organized around specific topics as well as keynote lectures and an interactive roundtable discussion on the current challenges in implementing of genetic testing in hematopathology.

Educational Objectives

After attending the conference, participants should be able to:

• Appraise the current WHO categories of myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms and identify areas of diagnostic difficulty (Knowledge, Competence, Performance)

• Utilize molecular diagnostic findings to aid in the differential diagnosis of myeloid and lymphoid disorders (Knowledge, Competence, Patient Care)

• Incorporate molecular genetic approaches in monitoring of patients with myeloid and lymphoid disorders (Knowledge, Competence, Performance, Patient Outcomes)

Target Audience

This conference is designed for physicians and other health profession-als in hematopathology, pathology, molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, hematology and oncology.

Educational Methods

Lectures, Case Studies, Questions and Answers, Round Table Discussion

Evaluation

A course evaluation form will provide participants with the opportunity to comment on the value of the program content to their practice deci-sions, performance improvement activities, or possible impact on patient health status. Participants will also have the opportunity to comment on any perceived commercial bias in the presentations as well as to identify future educational topics.

Accreditation/Credit Designation

The Society for Hematopathology in partnership with the American Society for Clinical Pathology designates this live activity for a maximum of 19.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The American Society for Clinical Pathology is accredited by the Accredi-tation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Verification Certificates

Certificates awarding AMA PRA Category 1 Credit or certificates documenting attendance will be distributed to participants when the par-ticipant departs the conference. To obtain a CME certificate, physicians must submit a completed evaluation questionnaire and a CME Verifi-cation Form. Upon request, a record of attendance (certificate) will be provided onsite to other health care professionals for requesting credits in accordance with state nursing boards, specialty societies, or other profes-sional associations.

SAM Credits

The Society for Hematopathology is partnering with the American Soci-ety for Clinical Pathology to provide American Board of Pathology (ABP) approved Self-Assessment Module (SAM) credits. SAM credits are neces-sary to meet the ABP maintenance of certification requirements. SAM credits will be available for this conference.

Types of Cases Featured in the Workshop

• Hematopoietic neoplasms in which genetic findings clarify the diagnosis, including new and provisional entities in the revised WHO Classification

• Hematopoietic neoplasms with unusual or unexpected genetic findings• Hematopoietic neoplasms in which genetic testing

results reveal the underlying disease biology• Molecular genetic evolution in hematopoietic

neoplasms after therapy or upon progression• Germline mutations predisposing to the

development of hematopoietic malignancies• Clonal hematopoietic conditions revealed by genetic testing,

including clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP), clonal cytopenia of undetermined significance (CCUS), and clonal T, B and NK lymphoid proliferations.
