1 RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in current version of the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing

and these Special Sailing Instructions. 1.2 The prescriptions and special regulations of Yachting Australia (YA) Part 1 will apply.

2 SAFETY REGULATIONS 2.1 All competing yachts shall comply with Yachting Australia Special Regulations Category 5. 2.2 Personal Flotation Devices All crews are reminded they are responsible for their own personal safety irrespective of signals made

or not. It is strongly recommended that they wear a personal floatation device (PFD) and carry a signalling device in strong winds and at all times when it is deemed prudent. All crew on boats without lifelines must wear approved personal flotation devices – YA Special Regulations Part 1 Section 5.01.1(g). In Category 5 races additional safety equipment should also be used when deemed prudent. This recommendation does not change any of the YA SR Part 1 and Victorian State Legislation requiring the wearing of PFD’s.

2.3 Sign On At least 10minutes prior to the Warning Signal the Skipper/Owner of each boat or their representative shall ‘Sign On’ with the SBSC Tower by radio on VHF Channel 69 and shall include in their transmission the Boat Sail No., Boat Name and number of crew aboard intending to race. This changes rule 63.1, A4 and A5.

2.4 Attention of competitors is drawn to Marine Farms within the course area. These may be floating, or fixed structures with associated moorings that shall be avoided. Buoys or beacons, that may be lit, generally mark these areas. All Marine Farms in the course area shall be considered to be an exclusion zone and shall not be entered.

2.5 A boat that retires from the race shall notify the race committee as soon as possible. 3 NOTICE TO COMPETITORS

4 CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 4.1 Changes to the Sailing Instructions will be posted on the regatta web-sites as listed above not less than 2

hours before the scheduled start time. 4.2 Any change to the schedule of the races will be posted on the regatta web-sites as listed above not less

than 19:00H on the day before it will take effect.

5 SCHEDULE OF RACES 5.1 Date Warning Signal

Friday 10th February Twilight Pursuit Race 17.55 H (GPS Time)

5.2 The Friday Twilight Race will have a Pursuit Start and is a White Sails ONLY race (NO spinnakers allowed). 5.3 Details of each yachts starting time will advised on the regatta web-sites (refer Item 3 above) by COB on

Thursday 9th February.

6 RACE AREA

7 THE COURSE 7.1 The course to be sailed will be indicated by the course number board located on the balcony

balustrade at the north end of the SBSC clubhouse, approximately thirty minutes before the start. 7.2 Appendix A below shows the courses, including the order in which marks are to be passed, and the side

on which each mark is to be left. 8 MARKS

9 THE START 9.1 The starting sequence will be signalled by White Lights in the SBSC Tower.

Refer Appendix B – ‘Club Start Procedures & Signals’ below. 9.2 The Start Line is between the centre line of SBSC Starting Box and the Green Pile.

10 THE FINISH The Finishing Line is between the centre line of SBSC Tower and the Green Pile.

11 TIME LIMIT 11.1 Racing shall end at sunset. 11.2 Boats failing to finish within this time limit will be scored Did Not Finish without a hearing.

This amends RRS 35, A4 and A5. This changes RRS 25, A4 and A5.

12 PROTESTS 12.1 Protest forms are available from the Safety Beach Sailing Club. Protests and requests for redress shall be

delivered there within the appropriate time limit. 12.2 The protest time limit is 60 minutes after the last boat has finished the last race of the day or the race

committee signals no more racing today, whichever is later.

13 RADIO COMMUNICATION Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones. Race Committee will monitor and use VHF Channels 69. The call signs will be Safety Beach Start Boat or Safety Beach Tower.

14 RESULTS & PRIZES 14.1 Results shall be posted online on the regatta web-sites (refer Item 3 above) and prizes presented at the

post-race dinner being held in the SBSC Clubhouse on Friday 10th February 15 INSURANCE

It is a condition of entry that the Owner/Competitor has third party liability insurance cover to a minimum value of $5 million. Such insurance shall cover all risks arising whilst the boat is participating in any way in racing, whether ashore or afloat.

16 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk and are responsible for the seaworthiness of a boat whose entry is accepted and for the sufficiency and adequacy of its equipment. Neither SBSC, their servants nor volunteers shall accept liability or responsibility whatsoever for death or any personal or material injury or damage sustained by a participant before, during or after a race of series of races. Attention is drawn to RRS 4, Decision to Race.

17 AVOIDANCE OF COMMERCIAL SHIPPING IN PORT PHILLIP In Port Phillip, Commercial Shipping has right of way over pleasure craft. Professional fishing vessels engaged in fishing are, for the purpose of these Sailing Instructions, considered as commercial ships. All yachts shall keep clear of shipping in all Port Waters in accordance with Section 2.15 Part 1 of Harbour Master’s Directions “Small Vessels”. Any yacht, in the opinion of the Race Committee, causes justifiable concern to a commercial ship shall be subject to disqualification by protest and may attract civil action.
