PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE All The News That’s Fake To Print

The mainstream media is operating on the premise that ruining President Trump is more important than facts. They tried and tried to destroy candidate Trump. First, they called him unfit and unworthy. When that didn't work, they compared him to Hitler and Mussolini. Then there was the unflattering Entertainment Tonight tape. But their propaganda campaign had no effect and Trump won YUUUUGE. They then dismissed him as a crude and know-nothing upstart who should never have been elected president.

Shifting tactics, the media now professes to echo the opinion of most Americans. Everybody knows and agrees that President Trump rigged the election by colluding with the Russians, that his administration is a chaotic mess, and that his approval rating is in the dumpster. Actually, that’s not what everybody thinks. FEBRUARY 21 MEETING

Speaker: Tony Ledbetter, Chairman, Republican Executive Committee of Volusia County Chairman Ledbetter told the members of his experiences attending the Republican National Convention, being selected as a Florida Elector there, and voting for Donald Trump for President on December 19 in the Senate Chamber in Tallahassee. He also told how exciting it was attending the inauguration and balls in Washington. Tony also organized President Trump’s rallies in Tampa and Melbourne, met President Trump on several occasions, and was impressed with the President’s focus on the person to whom he is speaking. Tony also announced he and REC member Vic Baker will host “Trump Talk Live,” a radio program broadcast on WNDB, 1150 AM and 93.5 FM on Thursday evenings at 7 PM. A Doggone Good Time

DeLand and the Republican Club of West Volusia went to the dogs on Saturday,

February 25, when the annual Amalie Krewe Mardi Gras Dog Parade marched down

Woodland Boulevard. Club members enjoyed a dog day afternoon manning the RCWV

booth at the street festival on West Indiana Avenue in front of the historic courthouse. It

was obvious dogs love Republicans, RCWV VP and event organizer Toby Troutman

noted. Everyone had a good time greeting two and four legged participants and handing

out educational information to passers-by and treats to our furry friends. The afternoon

was deemed a doggone success. Photos by Elizabeth Lendian

March 21 Meeting: James S. Purdy Public Defender, 7th Judicial Circuit

James S. Purdy has served as the elected Public Defender since January, 2005. He graduated cum laude with a B.A. degree in history from the University of Florida in 1975 and his J.D in 1978 from Nova University Center for the Study of Law. In 1979, Mr. Purdy joined the staff of the State of Florida Department of Legal Affairs in the Tampa Criminal Appellate division. He has served as Assistant Attorney General and as Assistant State Attorney in both the 7th and 12th Judicial Circuits and has practiced law in Florida for over 35 years. In addition to his position as Public Defender, Mr. Purdy was appointed by Governor Crist in 2008 to serve as a member of the State of Florida Medical Examiner’s Commission, where he continues to serve as the Commission’s Public Defender representative. Mr. Purdy also served as Treasurer for the Florida Public Defender Association for three years. A lifelong Republican, Mr. Purdy joined the Volusia County Republican Executive Committee in 1992. He served the RECVC as Rules Committee Chairman, Vice-Chairman and, in 1999, as Chairman. In the 2000 Presidential Elections, he was the first Republican Party representative called to the Volusia County Presidential Recount. Mr. Purdy is also an Eagle Scout and has served as District Chairman of both the Kings Road and Three Rivers districts of the Boy Scouts of America (2008-2010). To celebrate his 60th birthday in 2012, Mr. Purdy and his son Matthew spent 10 days in northern

Spain walking the Camino de Santiago, “The Way of St. James”, as Christian pilgrims, in what

he describes as the most important and memorable experience of his life. Mr. Purdy and his wife Marilyn have been married for 34 years and live in Port Orange
