We undertake to maintain a high standard of patient care and cover the whole range of treatments, referring for orthodontics, sedation and GA. The long serving staff are loyal and pleasant, trained, and appropriately qualified. They participate fully in the running of the practice, and are experienced in helping new FDs adapt to life in practice.

The practice is easily reached from the A12, M25, and M11. A small amount of on site parking is available, there is some on-street parking, and there are several public car parks close to the practice. It is an easy walk to the railway and bus stations, and there are frequent connections to London Liverpool Street, the tube, DLR, etc.

The Area: Chelmsford is one of the fastest growing cities in the country, and, for reasons best known to Uinvue.com, has been voted the happiest place to live in the country. A major new development of 3500 houses shops, schools, and a new station has recently been given the go ahead so demand in the area is set to increase further. The practice is 10 minutes walk from the city centre. The local facilities available range from corner shops to shopping arcades, nightclubs to concerts, wine bars to country pubs. Chelmsford has several good gyms, there is sailing on the Blackwater, and golf clubs abound. The Essex County Cricket Club is based in the city.

The regional shopping centres at Lakeside and Bluewater are only a short drive away. If you don't like that, London is 30 minutes away by train, 50 minutes by car. Stansted is 40 minutes away, from where previous FDs have enjoyed the shopping facilities of Paris, New York, and Dubai.

Other Points of Interest: The experienced and qualified staff work in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. There is a ready exchange of knowledge and views, and a good social interaction within and outside the practice.

There are good links with other practices allowing visits and experience to specialists, e.g. oral surgeons, implantologists, periodontists, and orthodontists. The political side of dentistry can be sampled by attending Local Dental Committee meetings and BDA meetings. A wide range of CPD courses can be attended at local centres.

We feel that we have developed an innovative dental practice that encourages everyone to develop and to realise their potential. We are proud of our commitment to dental nurse training; we are a clinical placement for trainee hygienist therapists from the University of Essex and several members of our team are involved in teaching undergraduates.. The Educational Supervisors: I, Soula, qualified from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa in 1992 and came to the UK in 1994. I worked as an associate for a few years and set up Broxbourne Dental Care with my partner in 1997. I am a practice principal in a partnership, and the practice has been a foundation training practice since 2010. I also obtained a Diploma in Medical education in 2015. I have 2 children, a dog and in my free time I enjoy walking, cooking and jewelery making. I Mo, qualified in 2007 from Barts and London and did my vocational training in Essex on the Ipswich scheme. I then worked as an associate for a further four years before embarking full time on a MsC in Conservative Dentistry from the Eastmans and qualified in 2013. I work in Broxourne and London. I have recently become a parent and am looking forward to this chapter in my life.

The Practice: Broxbourne Dental Care is a 6 surgery practice with 7 dentists and 2 hygienists. We are a mixed NHS and private practice, offering all aspects of dentistry. The other partner has a Diploma in Implant Dentistry and an opportunity to see these been placed would be offered. We are a 6 minute walk from the train station and all surgeries are fully equipped, air-conditioned, have digital radiography and SoE software. The practice has a purpose built decontamination room and a small kitchenette used as a staff room. It is located on the high street, with a shop front location on the ground floor, with disabled access. It is a very friendly place to work in, with a team of people who get on really well.

The Area: Broxbourne is situated 3.5 miles north of the M25 junction 25 and is on the Cambridge to London Liverpool Street line. The village setting has expanded in the last few years to merge with the pleasant town of Hoddesdon which has all the amenities such as a post office, banks and

supermarkets. Broxbourne is predominantly a middle class area, treating families, thereby allowing for all aspects of dentistry. It is close to Brookfield Centre allowing for shopping as it has good selection of shops.

Other Points of Interest: The other dentists in the practice all have an interest in teaching, with the other practice owner placing implants and teaching as well, whilst some of the other practitioners have attained their MsC in restorative and teach as well. The area is green enough to appear as though it is in the country and yet really close to London. It has shopping, gyms, and the popular town of Hertford is only 15 minutes away by car for a night out.

The Educational SUpervisor: I qualified from Kings College School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1991 and came to Homewood Dental Practice for my foundation year. I was fortunate enough to gain employment here at Homewood as an associate the following year. I stayed in the practice until 1998 and then moved away to work in a practice closer to home in London while I raised a young family. I returned to Homewood again as an associate in 2002. I have continued to develop my post graduate knowledge and skills with various courses including a Certificate in Cosmetic and Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry and Inman Aligners while keeping current with other new developments in dentistry. I am passionate about teaching the whole dental team the foundation skills of good clinical practice and communication. I am an integral part of our training practice and support all our FDs and train our Hygiene and Therapy students and Dental Nurses. To further my teaching skills I am currently completing my PGC in Dental Education at the University Bedfordshire and looking forward to using these skills to support our FDs and Dental Care Professionals. Having worked at the same practice as a foundation dentist, an associate for many years, and now as an Educational Supervisor, I still value the much needed guidance and support that I received in those early years. This allowed me to set a work ethos that I have carried through to date. I aim to provide encouragement, support, guidance and motivation for the foundation dentist to help them gain confidence and competence in holistic patient care.

The Practice: We have a long-established practice with a tenth surgery recently added. We have ten dentists, including 3 FDs, five hygienists and a therapist, caring for about 12000 patients and growing all the time. The work is mixed NHS and private with opportunities to provide quality dentistry in all disciplines. We embrace all aspects of modern practice; smile design, implants, aligner and fixed orthodontics and Cerec chairside CAD/CAM indirect restorations. We have digital x-rays (periapical and pan oral), an intra-oral camera and digital cameras. We converted our practice computer system from Kodak R4 to Exact Software of Excellence last year .We are virtually paper free. We have a highly qualified group of dental nurses, four of which are dental radiographers. We have developed excellent links with specialist services in oral surgery, orthodontics, endodontics, periodontics and implantology both locally and in London. We have had awards for many years as part of the BDA Good Practice scheme. We have links with the University of Essex at Southend as a clinical placement practice for hygienist/therapists. We are totally committed to life-long learning for all our team members. All of our dentists have achieved or are working towards post-graduate qualifications. We have three FDs within the practice and two hygienist/therapists each term on clinical placement. We have recently completed an impressive, extensive renovation including a new central sterilisation room.

The Area: The practice is situated at the end of Brentwood high street in Essex (M25 Junction 28). Brentwood is a very pleasant area with great facilities for all sports and a thriving art, drama and music scene. It is only 30 minutes by train to Liverpool Street and by car to Stansted. The coast and countryside of Essex and East Anglia are within easy reach. There are many pubs and restaurants within walking distance.

Other Points of Interest: We are a vibrant, developing practice that has worked hard to make the 2006 Contract work for our patients. The nature of the practice and its patient base gives FDs a broad range of opportunities to observe and to practice all aspects of dentistry within an ethical environment focused on comprehensive patient care. There is very little pressure placed on our FDs workload but we do encourage and support them to become more efficient over the year. In the current year we've had 3 FDs working together meaning there is always someone nearby who knows what you're going through. It also helps when it comes to preparing the Foundation Skills course work. We very much encourage the FDs to become involved in all aspects of clinical dentistry, to observe as much as possible and to get involved in as wide a range of treatment as possible to ensure they finish the year as competent and confident associates.
