2017 Summer Scholars Program Date: June 24 – July 8, 2017

The Summer Scholars program is a two­week program for talented rising highschool juniors and seniors who are interested in experiencing a taste of college life.Summer Scholars introduces students to college­level academics in fields rangingfrom the liberal arts to the sciences and business. Summer Scholars courses arerigorous and small in size, and the campus experience serves as an excellentintroduction to the life of a college student.

Leadership Seminars is a 10­day, all expenses paid program for advanced studentswho wish to hone their critical thinking and expressive skills in the company ofdynamic peers. 2017 Study Abroad: RomeProgram Date: June 3 – June 17, 2017

This two­week program immerses students in the history and culture of the EternalCity, with a focus on the built environment. Scholars representing a range of fields,from art history to anthropology, are on hand to guide students in their exploration ofthis fascinating city. The new Notre Dame Center in Rome serves as the home for lectures and discussions, while the city itself, with its monuments, museums, andhistoric neighborhoods, serves as the program's true classroom.

New Summer Scholars Courses

Summer Scholars is a two­week residential program that introduces high schoolstudents to college­level academics in fields ranging from the liberal arts to thesciences and business. We are excited to share some new and exciting courses ofstudy for Summer Scholars 2017:

From Malcolm X to the Beatles: Youth Activism & Repression in the60's — Taking a global perspective expanding over several decades,students will examine youth activism today. This course will use amultilayered approach to contextualize modern revolutions, from Black LivesMatter protests to the LGBT movement. Concentrating primarily on the1960's in select communities of color in the U.S. and Latin America,students will develop an understanding of how past activism anddiscrimination played a role in shaping the world we know today.

World Politics & the Struggle for Power: An Introduction toInternational Relations — International conflict is not new. Contemporarydebate rages over such diverse issues as intervention in Syria, ISIS and

global terrorism, the causes of war, nuclear proliferation, transatlantic andpacific trade partnerships, financial reform, and global climate change.Understanding and resolving complex issues such as these requires adeeper understanding of how politics works in the international system.
