Scott Stricklin is in his fourth season as the Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach at the University of Georgia. Since arriving in Athens, Stricklin, 45, has created an atmosphere of excitement around the program, starting with the current student-athletes, extending to the former let-termen and to Georgia baseball fans around the state. He has organized numerous letter-men functions to help reunite the Bulldogs, steered the $12 million Foley Field Revival project that was completed for the start of the 2015 season and engaged the fan base with the an-nual First Pitch banquets featuring Hall of Famers in John Smoltz and Phil Niekro, a future Hall of Famer in Chipper Jones and most recently Bulldog legend and current Major Leaguer Gordon Beckham. The 2017 club is projected to be his most talented as Perfect Game ranked the recruiting class now on campus as the third best nationally. Ad-ditionally, the Bulldogs have excelled in the classroom, posting a 3.08 GPA for the recently completed fall semester. The 2016 season saw Georgia play the nation’s toughest rated sched-ule and advance to the SEC Tournament. Seven Bulldogs signed profes-sional contracts bringing the total to 17 in Stricklin’s three seasons at the helm. Also, Georgia won a series over No. 2 South Carolina, and it marked the highest series win for the Bulldogs since 2001. Stricklin, who led his alma mater Kent State to five NCAA Regionals and the 2012 College World Series, was hired to lead the UGA program on June 3, 2013. During a nine-year stint with the Golden Flashes, Stricklin posted a 350-188 record, winning five Mid-American Conference regular season crowns and five MAC Tournament titles. Stricklin, a two-time All-Mid-American Conference catcher, handled pitching staffs that were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the nation in earned run average during his final two playing seasons at KSU. A 23rd round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins in 1993, he played five seasons of profes-sional baseball and reached the Triple-A level with the Twins. Stricklin graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in mar-keting from Kent State in 1995. He and his wife Cheri have three children: daughters Sydney (14) and Keaton (9), and a son, Cale (12).

2017 RECAPS & HOME RUNSSERIES RECAPS

Georgia was picked to finish in a tie for fourth with Kentucky in the Eastern Division by the SEC coaches. The D1 Baseball.com staff pegged Georgia sixth in the East and Perfect Game.org had the Bulldogs seventh in the East.

(Week 1) Georgia dropped its season-opening series to College of Charleston and avoided a sweep with a 9-8 thriller in game three The Bulldogs entered the ninth Sunday leading 9-7 and sent freshman OF/LHP Tucker Bradley to the mound for his pitching debut after playing the first eight innings in centerfield. He issued back-to-back walks and then an RBI-double, and on the play, the Bulldogs threw out the potential tying run at the plate for the first out as the batter took third. With one out, Bradley struck out the Cougars cleanup hitter, and then freshman Christian Ryder made his debut and struck out the next hitter for the save! For the weekend, Georgia batted .314 with eight doubles and four home runs, however the pitching staff sur-rendered 32 runs with 19 walks and eight wild pitches. Fifteen Bulldogs made their debut during Opening Weekend including 12 freshmen. Georgia started five freshmen on Opening Day (Will Proctor-2B, Aaron Schunk-3B, Cam Shepherd-SS, Tucker Maxwell-CF, Tucker Bradley-LF), the largest group since 2009 when five started. Seven of the 12 Bulldog freshmen saw action on the mound against the Cougars including game two starter Tony Locey. Schunk and Bradley also pitched in relief. (Week 2) Georgia began its four-game road trip with a 6-5 loss to Mercer as the Bears rallied back from a couple of three-run deficits and then won it in the ninth with an RBI-single. However, the Bulldogs claimed a series at Ga. Southern, win-ning 4-3 & 7-0 and missed out on a sweep when late inning miscues led to a 2-1 Eagle walk-off on an E5. (Week 3) Georgia started an 11-game homestand with a 5-4 loss to Kennesaw State, stranding 11 runners as the Owls walked 10 and had four WPs. Georgia got stellar pitching to win the UAB series, tossing a pair of shutouts as the offense tal-lied only four runs. Tony Locey and Andrew Gist combined on a four-hit shutout in game two of a 2-0 victory and then junior Chase Adkins went the distance on a four-hitter as the Bulldogs took the rubber game 1-0. Georgia had just two hits Sunday. (Week 4) Georgia split a two-game set with Xavier, dropping game one 8-7 as a ninth inning rally fell short and then outslugged the Musketeers 11-6. Fresh-man Cam Shepherd went 6-for-10 with a home run and 6 RBI in the series. Rider jumped on Georgia in the first inning of the first two games en route to 11-4 and 8-3 wins while Georgia salvaged the finalé 9-3. The Bulldogs made 13 errors in the series and had an ERA of 6.00 while hitting only .221. (Week 5) Georgia closed out an 11-game homestand with a 4-3 loss in 12 innings to Mercer followed by an 8-7 win over Presbyterian. Georgia played better against Mercer compared to the Presbyterian game and managed a split heading in to SEC play. The Bulldogs were swept by #6 LSU in Baton Rouge, falling 22-9, 5-1 and 7-6. While Georgia hit .291 against the Tiger staff that boasted a 2.95 ERA, Georgia’s pitchers allowed 34 runs on 33 hits with 21 walks and eight hit by pitches for an 11.62 ERA. (Week 6) Georgia began the week with a 9-6 road win over Kennesaw State in a rain-shortened six-inning contest. In the series versus No. 16 Auburn, Georgia took a 1-0 lead to the eighth, then surrendered two unearned runs and left the bases loaded in the ninth to fall 2-1 in game one. Georgia took game two 4-1 to snap Auburn’s nine-game winning streak, playing clean baseball and then dropped the finale’ 4-1. (Week 7) Georgia pounded out a season-high 12 runs on 16 hits for a 12-3 win over visiting Savannah State. The Bulldogs trotted out 11 different pitchers on a staff night. LJ Talley went 4-for-5 with 4 RBI while Mitchell Webb went 4-for-5 with 2 RBi to pace the offense. Georgia won its first SEC series and did it on the road against Tennesse. They dropped the opener 6-5 after a furious four-run rally in the ninth fell just short and then found themselves trailing 4-0 in game two by the third inning. However, Georgia bounced back with a 7-5 win and then claimed the series with a 3-1 decision in game three. Freshmen led the way offensively in the series as Aaron Schunk (.538) and Cam Shepherd (.500) combined to go 14-for-27, freshman Zac Kristofak and junior Chase Adkins earned wins while junior Blake Cairnes collected a pair of saves.

Pitching Candidates Georgia has used 19 pitchers this season, the most since the 2014 season when 19 saw action. It’s a sign of the times as Georgia’s 1990 National Champi-onship Team employed 10 pitchers, and they combined for 611 innings. And then there’s the 1993 team, they used just eight pitchers for 507 innings.

GEORGIA-MISSOURI SERIES BEGINS AT FOLEY FIELD, FINAL GAME AT SUNTRUST PARK ATHENS-----Georgia and Missouri will conclude their SEC baseball series Saturday, April 8 at 1:30 p.m. in the first public event at Sun-Trust Park, the new 41,000-seat home of the Atlanta Braves, to benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Tickets for the Georgia-Missouri game at SunTrust Park are on sale for $15 and group packages are also available. To purchase tickets go through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone at 800-745-3000, Ticketmaster.com or through Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at choa.org/firstgame. “Our players and staff are very excited to have this unique opportunity to play the first game open to the public at SunTrust Park,” said Georgia’s Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Scott Stricklin. “We are looking forward to seeing the Bulldog Nation fill up the seats with Red and Black. I would like to thank the Atlanta Braves organization, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Southeastern Conference for making this possible.” “This college matchup will be the first time the general public can really immerse themselves in SunTrust Park,” said Derek Schiller, Braves president, business. “With the excitement building around the ballpark, we think we have a great opportunity to have a large crowd in at-tendance, which would mean a lot of money raised for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.” Fans attending the SEC matchup will be able to enjoy all of SunTrust Park’s amenities – they can check out the Xfinity Rooftop, three levels of the Coors Light Chop House including Below the Chop that is directly behind the right fielder, or for a full view, sit above the crowd in the Home Depot Clubhouse perched above the left centerfield stands. Georgia will play host to Missouri at Foley Field in Athens on April 6-7 with the final game of the series at SunTrust Park. The Braves will open the 2017 season on the road with games at New York, Pittsburgh and Miami, before their inaugural homestand at SunTrust Park beginning on Friday, April 14. Also of note, Georgia will face Georgia Tech at SunTrust Park on May 9 at 7 p.m. in the 15th annual Spring Baseball Classic for Kids. This event also benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. It ranks as one of the nation’s largest attended college baseball games each year. In the 14 years it was held at Turner Field, the average attendance for the game was 19,413.
