LIQUID CRYSTAL SALTWATER LINES 1
Built for today’s modern action rods and for when guides demand the best performance from their clients, our new Liquid Crystal Guide Taper has equal ability to perform quick shots and shoot long distances. Ideal for both backcountry and ocean fishing scenarios, the hard PE+TM coating has a super-smooth finish with an exceptionally low coefficient of friction so it’s able to shoot under mangroves for redfish and snook yet land soft enough for laid-up tarpon. The coating is permanently fused to the core so there is minimal line stretch — for unequaled strike detection and hooksets. Highly abrasion-resistant and durable. Available in 5-13 wt.

Cortland’s tournament-winning Liquid Crystal floating fly lines represent a glimpse into the future of floating fly line technology. Made by extruding a proprietary blend of clear polyethylene and advanced co-polymers over a monofilament core, the Liquid Crystal clear is virtually invisible in the water. The hard PE+ coating has a super-smooth finish with an exceptionally low coefficient of friction so it shoots faster and farther than any conventional PVC floating line ever made. The coating is permanently fused to the core so there is minimal line stretch — for unequaled strike detection and hook sets.

FLATS / TARPON TAPER | (90’)
You don’t always need a completely invisible line, and some anglers (and their guides) prefer a line that’s easy to see. Visibility helps with loop control when casting and makes it easier to locate your fly when it’s underwater. We believe the Sky Blue Liquid Crystal is the perfect compromise, offering a line that’s nearly invisible to the fish but easily seen by anglers and their guides.

The Tropic Plus Intermediate line is a super-slow sinking, thin-diameter line that excels in windy conditions where a slim profile provides a casting advantage. Made on a monofilament core with our hard-finished Tropic Plus coating, the line shoots like a dream and sinks just below the surface to avoid wind drift when conditions are the roughest. With dual welded loops and sized for school bones right up to trophy tarpon, the Tropic Plus Intermediate deserves a place on every serious saltwater fly angler’s extra spools.

Designed specifically for offshore angling in cramped quarters. The Tropic Plus Billfish line features a 9-foot clear intermediate tip to allow the use of shorter leaders without spooking fish. A bright chartreuse head and running line is easy for the captain to see, and our Tropic Plus coating formulation fused to a heavy monofilament core shoots smoothly and reliably — and turns over large flies with authority and control. Also features dual welded loops for quick rigging.

The Precision Tropic All Purpose Taper is our best all-around hot weather floating line for multi-species saltwater fly fishing. Featuring a long-body, weight-forward taper designed to cast larger flies in windy conditions, the hard-finished Tropic Plus coating is fused to a solid monofilament core so it shoots smoothly and stays tangle free in the extreme tropical heat. We included a super slick blue running line indicating where the head and running line meet for easy identification and line control.
Also built with our hard, durable and smooth Tropic Plus coating on a solid monofilament core to withstand the blistering heat of long hours on the deck of a flats skiff. The overweight head and short front taper loads and casts quickly while turning over large, air-resistant tarpon flies with accuracy and control. The entire line is high-floating for quick pick-ups when a second cast is needed.

COMPETITION (BRAID CORE) | (90’)
As we’ve said before, feeling the take is of major importance when fishing modern nymphing techniques. We designed the latest edition of our competition nymphing lines with this in mind! Built with a super thin, strong and sensitive braided core, and offered in both level and double taper versions, this line will transmit the most sensitive of takes right through the system to your line holding hand. Its ultra-thin diameter will launch your bugs in exactly the direction you need them to go, and its great cast ability will ensure that longer range nymphing problems become a thing of the past.

COMPETITION (MONO CORE) | (90’)
The keys to nymphing are feeling the strike and setting the hook. Our competition mono core lines excel at both. Built with a proven taper, these ultra-sensitive, Gecko Green lines feature a thin, hard monofilament core. Perfectly round and stiff, this core transfers energy better and reduces line sag between rod guides — improving feel, preventing drag and increasing your fishing range. Also available in a .022 level taper.

BIG FLY™ | (100’)
Just as some fish are bigger than others, some flies are bigger too. And when it gets right down to it, sending one of those big fuzzy flies sailing across the sky is half the fun. A feat that’s humanly possible thanks to the aggressive front taper and overweighted head on our new Big Fly line. It loads quickly and throws big streamers, bass flies and tandem rigs with minimal false casting. The low-friction PST coating shoots smoothly through the guides, and the stiff, low-memory running line resists tangling. The two-foot Dyna-Tip keeps the line high and dry, and welded loops at both ends makes rigging quick and easy. All the things you need to go after the big boys.

TROUT BOSS™ HTx | (100’)
The Trout Boss just got more boss with a complex new taper, thinner core and our new proprietary heat-tempered surface treatment (HTx). Built a full-size heavy, the 35’ head design helps load fast-action rods and increase line speed. A thinner core gives the line a smaller diameter-to-mass ratio without skewing its specific gravity or killing energy transfer. And the new heat-tempered coating seals out dirt and oils while maintaining an exceptionally low friction coefficient. The result? Trout Boss HTx casts tighter loops, shoots farther, floats higher and is even more durable than its predecessor.

If you fish enough, you’ll eventually find yourself in situations where nothing seems to work. Fish more and you learn even the most technical situations have solutions. For example, our Denny Rickards 7’ Clear Camo Tip was designed to be fished in the top two feet of water over weed beds and along shorelines when pupa, emergers or actively swimming nymphs bring trout up from the bottom to feed. The 7’ Clear Camo intermediate tip stays higher in the water column and can be picked up with minimal surface disturbance at any time during a retrieve for a quick cast to cruising fish.
A clear, 5’ intermediate tip line that’s ideal for fishing lake depths from the surface film to 5 feet or for nymphing in rivers and streams.
A clear, 15’ intermediate tip line that’s ideal for fishing lake depths from 5 to 15 feet.

One of the all-time classics, the Cortland 444 “peach” line has set a standard for durability and all-round performance for over 50 years. It’s still one of the easiest handling lines on the market today, as well as one of the most supple in the coldest water. The high-floating, distinctively visible 444 Classic shoots through the guides without hesitation to turn over the longest, finest leaders. Now available with a welded front loop for easy leader rigging. Yes, we were actually able to improve a classic.
Most fly anglers with a few years of fishing under their belts have had a Cortland 444 SL (specialized line) on their reels. The original fast-shooting distance line, and the first choice of expert fly anglers for over 30 years, it’s formulated with a special stiffening process and a proprietary top coat that provides a harder, reduced-friction finish. The casting performance of the legendary “green line” continues to attract anglers of all skill levels. Now available with a welded front loop for convenient leader changes. Available in weight-forward.

SYLK | (90’)
SIZES: WF 2-6 | TYPE: FLOATING | TAPER: WF | CORE: BRAIDED NYLON MULTIFILAMENT
Spring creeks — and the wary trout that haunt them — present unique challenges that require special skills and specialized tackle. Super-fast rods and overweighted lines with brightly colored tips will announce your presence as surely as stoning the pool. By contrast, the extra-long, supple tip of the 444 Classic Spring Creek lands delicately, yet transfers energy so efficiently it turns over the longest, finest leader with authority and control. The muted olive color eliminates line flash while blending into the streamside foliage. The 444 Classic coating material remains supple in the coldest creeks to help defeat swirling and conflicting currents for longer drag-free drifts. Now offered with a welded front loop for simple leader changes.
For some anglers there’s no replacement for the unique feel of a bamboo rod. The 444 Classic Sylk is the first modern line designed specifically for fine bamboo rods by replicating the diameter, long gradual taper, supple feel and natural color of oiled silk. Its gentle casting qualities have obvious advantages in low-water situations as well.

There is nothing more frustrating than knowing your fly isn’t getting down to feeding fish. Cortland’s 444 Classic Sink Tip line features a 10-foot fast-sinking tip for fishing streamers, nymphs and other subsurface flies in deeper water and faster currents. The supple, super-smooth finish of the floating section shoots with authority and mends with ease, while the sinking tip gets the fly down where you want it, or more importantly, where the fish want it. Available in Type 3 (3.5-4 IPS) and Type 6 (6.25-7 IPS).
The 444 Classic Sinking fly lines offer a premium-performance, slick-shooting, durable, full-sinking line at an agreeable price. Available in the two most popular sink rates: Type 3 (3.5 - 4 IPS) and Type 6 (6.25 - 7 IPS). They come with a welded front loop for extra convenience when changing leaders.

The 444 Big Game Intermediate, like the small game version, is made with a supple, crystal-clear intermediate coating over a clear or mottled monofilament core, depending on color. Compared to the small game line, the 444 Big Game has a more compact, aggressive WF taper, designed specifically to load larger weight rods even at shorter distances. The result is a line that is more comfortable to cast over long periods of fishing with rods sized 8 or larger. Available in 8 to 12 wt in clear or clear camo. A great choice for predatory freshwater species.

In their bag of tricks, many savvy stillwater anglers prefer our 444 Classic Intermediate fly line to a floating line when fishing dry flies or emergers in the film during windy conditions. They like the way the thin diameter line slices through the wind and settles just below the surface waves to maintain a straight-line connection with the fly. Of course, with a precise specific gravity of 1.06, our neutral-density 444 Classic Intermediate is only a tad heavier than water and it sinks ever so slowly. Ideally used for fishing swimming nymphs and emergers over shallow, submerged weed beds.

C0MPETITION RODS 25
COMPETITION RODS
European-style nymphing is catching on in the U.S. for one very good reason. It catches fish. The method is straightforward enough. You fish the rod at a 45-degree angle to the water, draping the line and maintaining a relatively tight line from the tip of the rod to the fly itself. The result is a natural, dead (and deadly) drift that all but eliminates leader slack and dramatically improves strike detection. The key, though, is the right rod. It must be long, lightweight and ultrasensitive.
Enter Cortland’s Competition rod series. Built from high-modulus, ultrasensitive graphite blanks, our rods are weighted toward the butt to help maintain the optimum 45-degree angle without tiring your wrist. The matte black finish helps dampen vibration to prevent shock waves when presenting the fly. Black, single-foot guides are oversized to ease leader knot transfers for fishing short distances. And the handle is thin, with an ergonomic taper that allows an angler to touch a finger against the blank for strike detection. Available in 9’6’’ 2 wt., 10’ 3 wt., 10’ 4 wt., 10’6’’ 3 wt. and 10’6’’ 4 wt., four-piece rods. All rods include hook keepers and fighting butts with hard cork bottoms.
