The development of EQUIA was based on the positive feedback from years of clinical experience with high-viscosity GIC restorations, of which longevity has been highlighted again in recent systematic literature reviews*. In a finished restoration, the surface becomes rough and loses particles due to wear or dissolution. Mechanical stress concentrates on surface voids and gaps which leads to crack formation.

The restoration is protected from wear and dissolution, mechanical stress is dis-persed, and the surface remains glossy due to the evenly dispersed nano-fillers and tough coating layer.

Better.Amalgam Alternative and Replacement: Better for your patient, your practice, and the environment

The US dental industry is the top polluter of mercury (from amalgam).1 In depth systematic reviews of literature have shown that high-viscosity glass ionomer cements are as effective as or superior to amalgam (in terms of higher success rate and significantly fewer recurrent carious lesions) when used in the same clinical indications.2 Systematic reviews, often including meta-analysis as statistical method, provide the highest form of clinical knowledge in terms of achieving internal validity of results. EQUIA is an aesthetic and effective alternative to amalgam fillings and an excellent replacement choice as well.

Zone of Inhibition

Strong chemical adhesion, due to acid-based reaction, creates a “zone of inhibition.” Glass ionomers mechanically and chemically bond to the tooth, creating a zone of inhibition that studies indicate may help to minimize the risk of secondary caries.

EQUIA’s high-fluoride release provides much needed protection against secondary caries as well as protection for adjacent teeth.
