The KET PBS KIDS channel is here! This new, educational 24/7 children’s service includes free, full-time children’s programming available on air, on mobile, and online.

The channel is available statewide through KET’s over-the-air broadcast network, on cable systems, and via livestream at KET.org/kids, pbskids.org, and on the PBS KIDS Video App – 24 hours a day.

Research confirms that PBS KIDS content helps children build critical skills that enable them to find success in school and in life, while also helping parents increase their own engagement.

As you know well, technology has dramatically changed classrooms — even in just the last decade.

Computers, smartboards, and tablets have become an ever-more integral part of instruction. But these are just devices. It’s the content a teacher chooses — to demonstrate a concept, to engage student involvement, to appeal to varying learning styles — that ultimately makes technology effective and enhances learning.

That is why we’re dedicated to creating and delivering the highest quality, standards-based resources.

From being a leading content producer for PBS LearningMedia to providing entire distance learning courses through our Online Campus, KET ensures schools throughout Kentucky have equal access to proven, dynamic content and classroom instruction.

As KET approaches its 50th anniversary, it makes me proud to know that serving the needs of students and educators remains a pillar of our mission.

Our staff of teachers, content producers, and in-the-field education consultants are committed to ensuring educators across Kentucky have easy access to the resources they need to bring learning to life every day.

I hope this will be a safe, happy, and successful year for you and your students. As always, we are deeply appreciative of your work to educate young Kentuckians and honored to be your trusted classroom partner.

Do your students have a story to tell? KET wants to hear it! Each spring, the KET Young Writers Contest encourages children to submit stories and poems for a statewide competition.

There are three categories: illustrated stories, grades K-3; short stories, grades 4-5; and poetry, grades 6-8. All students receive a certificate for participation, and the winners are recognized with backpacks filled with goodies. Winning submissions are also published on KET’s website.

Check out previous winners at KET.org/writerscontest, and look for contest guidelines in February 2018.

An ideal way to engage students in learning is through video projects. The KET School Video Project encourages Kentucky K-12 students to give video production a try. Submit school news programs, documentaries, art or music videos, PSAs—the only limit is your students’ imaginations!

KET also offers students a video challenge complete with prize drawings several times a year. Past projects

have focused on digital citizenship, student health, and the environment.

Getting videos on KET’s website is easy. When a video is uploaded to the site, KET checks technical quality and content. When they’re approved, videos can be viewed online and shared with friends, family, and schools.

Courses require Internet access and an onsite facilitator. In Kentucky, tuition is $100 per student, per course, plus any materials, dual credit, and lab fees. If 20 or more students from the same school are registered, the tuition is $100 per student for the first 19 and $50 for each additional student.

All courses are now available for dual high school and college credit through Morehead State University’s Early College program for qualifying juniors and seniors. Call KET Online Campus at (800) 333-9764 for information.
