A Message fromBRIAN WILLIAMS,- President of the Board of Directors

OUR MISSION

It’s been a year of exciting changes at the Center for Family Services!

The past fiscal year saw the departure of our executive director and finance manager. We were fortunate in recruiting VaLinda McCoy, formerly with Penn State Erie, the Behrend College, as our new finance director. Val has diligently re-organized this department for maximum efficiency, working with staff and funders.

We hired Del Birch, a retired vice president at United Way of Erie County, as our interim executive director. Over the past six months, Del has worked with the board and staff to make much-needed improvements in our facility, the thrift store and IT infrastructure. He has built relationships with key funders and coordinated the search for our new executive director.

Throughout this time, people in need across Crawford County have continued to be served by our staff and a dedicated group of volunteers at our office, thrift store and seven food pantries. Our agency continues to provide essential services – food, clothing and housing counseling – complemented by critical programs from our Family Education Department to strengthen individuals and families. Every day, staff provides the services and support that turns despair into hope and opportunity for friends and neighbors in need.

We want to close with the best news of all! We are pleased to announce that Jason Nesbitt is our new executive director. A Crawford County native and resident, Jason has spent his entire career in social services. We’re confident that Jason will provide the leadership needed to continue our mission into the future.

Change has been good for the Center for Family Services. We thank you for your past support and ask for your continued support as we continue our 155-year legacy of helping those in need.

Building on our legacy of caring, the Center For Family Services exists to assist, support and strengthen individuals and families throughout our communities.

FamilyEducation

A strong family can be a source of emotional support, love, security and protection. Children flourish when they feel loved, nurtured and supported by their parents and siblings. Center for Family Services’ Family Education programs strive to assist parents in developing realistic and appropriate goals for themselves and their children that promote mental, physical and emotional growth.

State Prison Re-enty Program

A home is the base from which families grow and thrive. It is the key to health, educational achievement and business opportunities. Housing Counseling helps families not only stabilize their housing situations, but to also advance the quality of their lives. A home should be a person’s safe haven, a place to retreat from the outside world. The loss of a home can influence a person’s emotions, behavior and overall physical and mental health.

For inmates scheduled to be released in the next 6-12 months, CFS presents educational seminars on:• Fair Housing, Landlord/Tenant Rights & Responsibilities • Anti-Predatory Lending, Basic Household Budgeting
