VISIT A PARKMcArthur Island ParkThis island park is home to a multitude of sporting facilities, soccer and baseball fields, ice rinks, a skateboard park, golf course, and more. A 3km paved path boards its perimeter, providing a refreshing walk, bike ride or rollerblade while you check out the park! GEOCACHINGGeocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game. Players try to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, using a smartphone or GPS and can then share their experiences online. More than 1700 caches are scattered within a 30km radius from the centre of town. The McArthur Island Treasure Hunt is a series of 15 geocaches that create a geocaching training playground for new geocachers. This is a place where new and experienced geocachers in a relatively small area. Caches in this series are family-friendly and some are wheelchair accessible. Visit geocaching.com

HIKE & BIKERivers TrailBegins downtown at Pioneer Park across the Overlander Bridge and then splits with the Schubert Drive Trail. The pathways are paved and flat.Schubert Drive Trail This popular walking and jogging trail is part of the Rivers trail. It starts at the north side of the Overlander Bridge and runs parallel to the North Thompson River. Flat and paved, perfect for a leisurely stroll, a walk with the baby stroller or a nice jog.River’s Trail to Cinnamon RidgeStarts at the parking lot at the end of Aviation Way and heads west past the airport. At the fork in the path turn left to the beach and right through farmers fields to Cinnnamon Ridge. The walk is mostly flat and level and great place to take a leisurely bike ride or a walk with ‘Rover’.The BeaconA short but vigorous hike with large rewards. Located at the top of the Ord Road Cliffs on Batchelor Hill directly above Brocklehurst. Offers one of the best panoramic views in the city. Best accessed by parking at the Water Tower located just off of Ord Road between McLean St and Singh St. The hike doesn’t take long: 15 minutes to one hour depending on speed and fitness but it is straight up.

The HoodoosHead west 3.5km past Airport Road on Tranquille Road which veers left on Red Lake Road. Park on the small gravel pullout on the right side of the road. Cross the railway tracks and head up the hill. Mildly steep terrain, requires good mobility. Tranquille Marsh Bird SanctuaryJust past Cinnamon Ridge Compost Centre, left into a small parking area. You can also spend time exploring Tranquille Farm Fresh nearby.Lac du Bois Grasslands15,000 hectare protected provincial park featuring sweeping grassland vistas, spectacular cliffs and canyons, cool, dry forests, secret ponds and small lakes including Isobel and McQueen Lakes. Enter the area in the east via Lac du Bois Road located on at the top of Batchelor Heights or via Red Lake Road in the west.Mara MountainOn Red Lake Rd just past the Hoodoos. There are two routes; one a shorter steeper route and the other a gravel road up, single track down popular with mountain bikes. Vegetation ranges from cactus, sage, forest and grasslands.

WATCH FOR PLANES AND SKYDIVERSHead to the Kamloops Airport to watch the planes come in. One of the best viewing areas is at the end of Aviation Way off Tranquille Road. Here you will find the end of the Rivers Trail and plenty of places to watch for planes. If you’re lucky you will get to see one of the many Kamloops Skydiving club members doing a jump! Or head to the airport and check out the Canadair CF-5 Freedom Fighter which was erected in honour of the Moose Squadron formerly stationed here.
