Sunsmart A healthy balance of the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure is important for health. Our school’s Sunsmart Policy informs practices for staff and students to ensure that sun protection is a priority during this time. Students must wear hats in terms one and four and this will be enforced from next Monday. Shade • The school council makes sure there is a sufficient number of shelters and trees providing shade in the school grounds particularly in areas where children congregate, i.e. lunch, canteen, outdoor lesson areas and popular play areas. • In consultation with the school council, shade provision is considered in plans for future buildings and grounds. • Children are encouraged to use available areas of shade when outside. Hats • Children and staff are required to wear hats that protect their face, neck and ears whenever they are outside. Students without hats at school are required to stay in front of the library in the shade. Sunscreen It is recommended that: • SPF 30+ is applied on children prior to arriving at school in the morning. Students are encouraged to bring their own sunscreen to school for reapplication during the day. • The school supplies sunscreen for all classrooms. We have included a copy of our sunsmart policy with the newsletter. Carol Wyatt - Acting Principal ((Transition through the school

As we know the year is quickly going by and before we know it, it will be 2017! In preparation for this we run an internal 'Transition Through School' program during this term. This involves 4 sessions. Our first session will be on Monday October 24.

Students will be placed with different students and different teachers in the first 3 sessions, with the final session being when students meet their teacher for next year, on December 16. Always exciting!!

We prepare our students for Foundation from the kindergartens. We prepare our Year 6’s for secondary school. We think it is important to prepare our students for the move from Foundation to Year 1, Year 1 to Year 2, Year 2 to Year 3, Year 3 to Year 4, Year 4 to Year 5 and Year 5 to Year 6!!

Having so many classes and being in different areas of the school, this allows students and teachers to get to know each other better. Teachers will be giving a glimpse into what next year will look like and what can be expected. This is an exciting time, where students rekindle formed friendships from the previous year. It starts the Year 2s thinking about moving their IL focus from Investigations to Inquiry. It starts the Year 4s thinking about having their own iPad. The Junior teachers will also be having some extra special Transition sessions too.

If you have any concerns, speak with your child’s teacher or get in touch with me.

Regards, Dale McInerney - Assistant Principal

2016! F R O M T H E E N V I R O T E A M ! 2016

! In the last week of Term 3 we celebrated Enviro Week and the whole school got involved with a range of different activities. ! We were fortunate to have the help of volunteers from CERES Environmental Park and they lead a series of different incursions that taught the students, Foundation to Senior School, about different aspects of sustainability and the environment. ! We enjoyed the hands on elements of the presentations and learnt a lot about the environmental issues facing our planet today. We learnt about what we can do at home and at school to help the environment and become more sustainable citizens.
