Description of Summit Session/Training Tracks and Professional Development Workshops

Professional Development Workshops – Are offered prior to the Summit and focus on a particular topic for professional development. The workshops require pre-registration to participate. Space is limited.

General Sessions – Intended for all Summit attendees. These sessions provide information that pertains to all motorcycle safety professionals. See what’s going on at the national level.

Track 1 – Administration Sessions - Intended audience includes administrators, directors, managers, researchers, law enforcement, etc. These sessions provide information that pertains to the administration of a state comprehensive motorcycle safety program. See what other programs are doing to enhance program management.

Track 2 – Rider Education and Training Sessions - Intended for administrators, directors, managers and trainers of rider education and training programs. These sessions provide information that pertains to administers rider education and training programs. See what other programs are doing to enhance rider education and training programs.

Track 3 – Instructor Training Sessions - Intended for instructors and trainers. These classroom sessions provide training to enhance instructor and trainer facilitation skills. See what other programs are doing to provide ongoing instructor development.

PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED Professional Development Workshop #2 – Washington Instructor Development Training – What’s In Your Tool Kit? (Instructors/Trainers) Want to have more fun and be more effective working with your students and fellow instructors? In this interactive session conducted by the Washington State Motorcycle Safety Program, you will work to sharpen your current tools as an instructor, and add new ones to your tool kit. Topics covered will include:

identifying different personality and communication styles and using them to better connect with your students,

creative ideas for difficult conversations with students and fellow instructors,

increasing effectiveness in the classroom by using adult learning techniques and activities to empower your students and energize their learning,

keeping your fire lit by managing instructor burnout, and

much more.

This workshop will put tools in your hand that you can immediately use in your state with any curriculum to optimize the training experience you provide for your students as they begin their riding career. Conducted by: Washington Motorcycle Safety Program WMSP Staff

PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED Professional Development Workshop #3 – Idaho STAR Program Abbreviated Precision Riding Clinic (PRC) (Instructors/Trainers) Maximum of 10 Participants / Observers Welcome! The Idaho STAR Program is offering an abbreviated Precision Riding Clinic (PRC) as an Instructor/RiderCoach PDW. The PRC is Idaho STAR’s premier course designed for fully endorsed riders with a minimum of two years or 10,000 miles of current street-riding experience and is based on Idaho Police Motor School drills. Riders will have the opportunity to master precision vehicle control and advanced low-speed maneuvering and hazard response skills on their own motorcycles in this intensive on-cycle workshop. Come out and join the STAR Team for some challenging and fun riding in the “Snowman,” “Flying W,” and more! Space is limited to 10 riders; observers welcome. Conducted by: Idaho STAR Motorcycle Safety Program Staff
