Jimmy Lambert earns Mountain West Pitcher of the Week For the second consecutive week, a Fresno State pitcher earned Mountain West Pitcher of the Week
honors. Junior right-handed pitcher Jimmy Lambert was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the
Week on Monday.
Helping the Bulldogs stay a perfect 8-0 on the season, Lambert tossed a complete game shutout in
game one of Saturday’s (Feb. 27) doubleheader sweep of Youngstown State. Bolstered by 11 runs
from the Bulldog offense, Lambert worked effi ciently throwing a career-high nine innings limiting the
Penguins to only three singles issuing zero walks and striking out fi ve. The San Dimas Calif., native
notched seven 1-2-3 innings and faced only two batters over the minimum retiring 27 of the 29 YSU
batters he faced on the afternoon while throwing 94 pitches.
This is Lambert’s fi rst career MW Pitcher of the Week honor and is the 13th time a Fresno State
pitcher has earned MW Pitcher of the Week since the ‘Dogs joined the conference in 2013. The fi rst
time a pair of ‘Dogs have earned the honor in back-to-back weeks, the Bulldogs claimed three MW
Pitchers of the Week awards in 2015, four in 2014 and four in 2013.
Taking a look at the San Diego State Aztecs
San Diego State is off to a 1-8 start to the 2016 season having dropped its last fi ve games.
The Aztecs picked up their only win of the season at UC Irvine on Feb. 23 winning 4-2,
but have played a tough schedule to start the season dropping four games to ranked op-
ponents.
The Mountain West preseason favorites, along with New Mexico, the Aztecs rank sixth in
the MW with a .240 batting average and 27 runs scored. On the mound, SDSU is third in
strikeouts (60) and opposing batting average (.258), fi fth in ERA (5.58), and are sixth in
runs allowed (60).
SDSU is led at the plate by Alan Trejo with a .316 batting average as the sophomore has
four RBIs and three runs scored. Justin Wylie and David Hensley are hitting .286 and .281,
respectively and the two have fi ve of the Aztecs’ 14 doubles on the season.
On the mound, Sunday starter Brett Seeburger has a 1.69 ERA in 10.2 innings and has
limited op- ponents to
two earned runs this
year and has notched seven
strikeouts. Harrison Py-
att has a 1.50 ERA tossing
12.0 innings and has a
team-high 12 strikeouts.

Ricky Thomas starts season with pair of strong performances
Sophomore left-handed pitcher Ricky Thomas has started the 2016 season off with a
bang on the mound for the ‘Dogs tossing back-to-back Friday night performances of six
innings each allowing four hits, one earned run and snagging a MW-best 19 strikeouts.
The San Diego native is coming off an impressive summer playing in the Cape Cod
League. After winning four games and recording 35 strikeouts as a freshman in 2015,
Thomas ventured out east to Massachusetts to play for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Soxs
and he helped guide Y-D to their second consecutive Cape Cod League Championship.
He was named a Cape Cod League All-Star after posting a 9-0 record in 10 appearances
with a 0.92 ERA and 62 strikeouts. His stellar summer did not go under the radar as
Thomas was ranked as the 51st-best prospect for the 2017 MLB Draft by D1Baseball.com
and ranked as the sixth-best lefthander on the list.
Pitching rotation making life diffi cult on opponents
In addition to Thomas and Lambert, Anthony Arias completes the Bulldogs weekend
rotation as the trio has combined to start off the year 6-0 tossing 39.2 innings while al-
lowing only 19 hits, two earned runs and has notched 36 strikeouts.
Guibor & Stone among leaders in the Mountain West

right fi elder Austin Guibor leads the MW with 12 runs scored and plate appearances with
44. Jake Stone ranks fi rst in the conference and nation in sacrifi ce fl ies with fi ve and also
ranks tied for third with nine RBIs.

Creighton 2-1 to became the 38th-active head coach to reach that milestone. He currently
has a mark of 451-354 overall at Fresno State and has notched 10 seasons of 30-plus
victories during his time at the helm. The Bulldogs won seven consecutive WAC Champion-
ships from 2006-12 and went 271-177 over that stretch making six regional appearances and
capturing the College World Series in 2008.
Fresno State claims 2,500th program win
Behind a complete game shutout from Jimmy Lambert, Fresno State won its 2,500th game
as a program on Feb. 27 blanking Youngstown State 11-0. Now in its 88th year as a Division
I program, that is an average of 28.4 wins per season. The ‘Dogs become only the 19th

Fresno State Baseball Support Staff
Mike Batesole, a two-time National Coach of the Year, enters his 14th season as the head coach of the Fresno State Bulldogs.
Under Batesole, the Bulldogs were put on stage in front of the nation and captured Amer-ica’s hearts as he took the Bulldogs from underdogs to wonderdogs in 2008 to claim the school’s fi rst Division I national championship for any men’s team sport. His Bulldogs won seven-straight conference titles from 2005-12 and made six NCAA appearances in that time, advancing to the regional title game three times before winning the National Championship.
Most recently, Batesole’s 2015 Bulldogs fi nished third in the Mountain West with an18-12 record and a 31-28 overall mark in their third season in the league. Fresno State got off to a great start last year, sweeping its season opening three-game series against 2014 College World Series participant UC Irvine. The Bulldogs had 20-8 record at home, marking the 11th time in Batesole’s 13 years that the ‘Dogs have won at least 20 games at home. The Bulldogs swept MW foes UNLV and San Jose State, and took two of three games over Nevada and New Mexico.
After Fresno State had six Bulldogs drafted in the 2014 MLB draft, the ‘Dogs added three more draft selections in the 2015 MLB Draft. Junior catcher Taylor Ward became the fi fth fi rst-round selection to play under Batesole as the Oviedo, Fla., native became the highest drafted catcher in Fresno State program history after he was the 26th overall selection by the Los Angeles Angels. Junior pitcher Jake Shull (11th Rd., Detroit Tigers) and senior pitcher Garrett Mundell (23rd Rd., New York Yankees) were also selected.
In Batesole’s 14-year tenure, the skipper has produced a total of 64 players who have been selected in the annual Major League Baseball Draft.
Dedicated not only to excellence on the diamond but in the classroom as well, Batesole saw 16 Bulldogs earn academic all-conference honors in 2015. Additionally, four Diamond Dogs were celebrated with the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honor, which recognizes student-athletes that maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better. Overall, Batesole has had 114 student athletes receive all-academic selections at Fresno State.
Batesole led the Bulldogs to a historical 2008 season after defying the odds and beating six ranked teams and facing six elimination games to win the program’s fi rst-ever National Championship. Six ‘Dogs off that team were drafted to Major League Baseball.
Batesole earned three additional National Coach of the Year accolades that year from the American Baseball Coaches Association, FieldTurf and the National College Baseball Writ-ers Association. The Bulldogs captured their third-consecutive WAC championship in 2008 and fi nished the postseason run with an overall record of 47-31. Fresno State saw fi ve play-ers earn fi rst-team All-WAC honors in 2008. The 2008 postseason run was the ‘Dogs fourth appearance at the College World Series and fi rst National Championship.
A native of Anaheim, Calif., Batesole played shortstop for Garden Grove High School where he earned All-Garden Grove Conference and All-Orange County honors. Batesole then was a standout player at Oral Roberts where he fi nished his tenure ranked third in school history in career home runs. He would go on to be drafted in the 14th round of the 1985 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and play within its affi liate organizations for four years.
Batesole lives in Fresno with his wife Susie and they have four children - Kassy, Kally, Kody and Korby.
