WHAT DOES CLG DO?CLG puts the interests of the lake first and works to elevate its place in our lives — all for amore enjoyable, safe and fun lake experience. CLG made quite the splash with our inauguralsignature event, Lights on the Lake in 2014. Since then, we’ve supported lake marketing efforts in partnership with the Greenwood Regional Tourism & Visitors Bureau and actively participated in the development of the Lake Greenwood Master Plan.

HELPED CLEANUP LAKE GREENWOODConnect Lake Greenwood supported the annual 2015 Lake Greenwood Clean Up, sponsored by Keep Greenwood County Beautiful (KGCB) and Palmetto Pride. They teamed up with a number of corporate sponsors and the Greenwood Chamber’s Leadership Greenwood Class of 2015 graduates.
Rain didn’t hamper the spirits of the Connect Lake Greenwood Steering Committee members who participated in the annual Clean Up. Pictured are Tony Curreri, Sharon Clark, Kevin Cartee, Gwen Gunnells, and Jimmy Peden.
Greenwood County Lake Management annually supports and promotes the Clean Up event. Pictured are Jan Figueira (Lake Management), Johnathan Graves (KGCB Chair), and Nicole Varnum (Event Chair/Leadership Greenwood).
Volunteers of all ages came out to support the event. Pictured are David Trent of Park Sterling Bank and local attorney Brandon Smith, with his children Jarrett, Whit, and Benjo.
Radio personality Dave Fezler of Sunny 103.5 Radio conducted a live remote from the Lake Greenwood State Park and distributed prizes to participating volunteers.

After 18 months of work, Lake Greenwood's first tourism plan was developed in 2015 in partnership with Greenwood County, Greenwood Regional Tourism and Visitors Bureau (GRTVB), and the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor. Designated by Congress in 1996, the SC National Heritage Corridor is a program of the National Parks Service to promote and preserve the cultural, natural and historic resources across the 17 counties it serves. Connect Lake Greenwood volunteers were active in the plan development and supported the marketing efforts.
The plan provides GRTVB a road map to branding and marketing the lake to create a sense of place. From signage and guides to a new logo, the plan focuses on turning Lake Greenwood into a premier lake destination, known for its fishing, water sports and small town atmosphere. Designed to complement the county's new lake master plan, the plan will market the lake by sharing stories of the lake with targeted audiences.
TARGET AUDIENCE: Lake Greenwood’s market are visitors from Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. They include sportsmen, adventure travelers, eco-nature tourists, heritage travelers and turbo-tourists (defined as out-of-state visitors planning relocation, business or second home investments).
NEW LAKE LOGO AND SIGNS: Modeled after a crappie, the new logo will be used on marketing materials, social media and new lake signage. The logo will be used to complement the county's and city's current signs directing people to the lake and at access points to inform people of points of interest on the lake.
The tourism bureau is excited to be partnering with Connect Lake Greenwood to start implementing some of the signage recommendations as well as some marketing efforts
through advertising and social media.— Kelly McWhorter, Executive Director
Greenwood Regional Tourism & Visitor’s Bureau

What really stood out to us that was different in Lake Greenwood than other lakes around the state was that small town charm and that Americana atmosphere that you felt.

On Saturday, July 4th, 2015, Connect Lake Greenwood along with our loyal and committed sponsors and volunteers hosted the 2nd Annual Lights on the Lake premier fireworks show. Following up a hugely successful first year in 2014, last year’s event attracted thousands of boaters and visitors once again to our host site, Fellowship Camp and Conference Center.
Thanks to our dedicated and engaged sponsors, Lights on the Lake was an afternoon and evening full of fun, music, food and fireworks for everyone! The event featured numerous local food vendors, a swimming area, boater viewing along the shore and lake plus live music from Greenwood’s very own - Jake Bartley Band. The evening concluded with a spectacular fireworks show followed by another hour of music.
Over the past two years, Lights on the Lake attendance has averaged between 2,000 to 3,000+ people with hundreds of boats dotting the lake for as far as the eye could see. Lake Greenwood homes were also hubs for family and friends viewing parties.

Connect Lake Greenwood and its lake constituents were actively involved in focus groups and providing feedback to develop the Lake Greenwood Master Plan. The Lake Greenwood Master Plan established goals, objectives, and strategies for the use, development, and protection of the Lake Area through the year 2035. These guidelines serve to assist the county councils, planning commissions, staff, citizens, land developers, and regional and state agencies in decision-making regarding a wide variety of issues. The goals, objectives, and strategies are the heart of the Lake Greenwood Master Plan. The master plan is a working document comprehensive in scope that the three counties and numerous involved partners can implement over a 10 – 20 year timeframe for the benefit of all.

History of Lake Management:Between 1935 and 1940, Lake Greenwood was created with the construction of Buzzard’s Roost Dam. Lake Management was initially undertaken by the Greenwood County Electric Power Commission. Duke Power leased the lake operations from Greenwood County. However, due to increased Federal License requirements there was a need to create a Lake Management Department. Created in 2006, the Lake Management Department is responsible for issuing permits for encroachments on Lake Greenwood, registration of encroachments, camping reservations on Goat Island, lake upkeep, larvicide applications and herbicide applications, Greenwood County public lake access areas, assisting in complying with the FERC license, administering shoreline management, and inspection of lake encroachments.
