PEEL MUSIC FESTIVAL PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

www.peelmusicfestival.ca Syllabus 3/50

President’s Message

This year marks the 89th season of the Peel Music Festival and we’re still

going strong. Last year’s festival featured over 2,500 entries in Music

and Speech Arts, and we awarded $18,000 to our 200 scholarship

winners. All of our winners performed in a minimum of two classes and

some performed in as many as five or six. We sent many competitors to

Provincials, some of whom advanced to compete in Nationals, where, in

recent years, our competitors have taken five First Place and two Second

Place awards.

The caliber of these young performers is exceptional, and to showcase

them accordingly, we host our annual Stars of the Festival Concert. This

season’s concert will be held on Saturday May 14th, 2016, at the Rose

Theatre in Brampton.

As one of the longest-running and largest independent teacher-run

competitive music festivals in Canada, we take great pride in the level of

excellence of our young competitors, many of whom we have watched

grow and develop over the years. We attract some of the best

adjudicators from across the country. Entry fees cover the cost of

adjudication, hall rentals and printing, while we count on scholarship

donors to provide ongoing scholarship award funds.

Teachers, however, are the backbone of our organization. We invite you

to become involved by volunteering your time, or by establishing a small

scholarship which would be awarded in your name. Some of our teacher-

supporters host their own Peel Music Festival scholarship recital at

which their students perform and the parents make small donations to

fund scholarships for the Festival. With your continued support we can

work together to ensure the success of the Peel Music Festival for many

years to come.
