    Introduction of University

    Brief History

Tsing Hua Academy which was instituted at Tsing Hua Garden in Beijing in 1911 was

renamed National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in 1928. It was then established in 1956 in

Hsinchu, Taiwan. "Self-Discipline and Social Commitment" is the motto of this prestigious

university that is particularly exemplified by its outstanding alumni, including two Nobel laureates

in Physics, one Nobel laureate in Chemistry, and one Wolff prize winner.

    Outstanding Faculty and Facilities

There are currently seven colleges, including the Colleges of Science, Engineering, Nuclear

Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Life Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer

Science, and Technology Management. To enhance humanistic and spiritual cultivation the

University also offers common courses in general education and accommodation for art activities

on campus.Research projects of the University emphasize basic sciences and their applications.

Long-term projects are facilitated by an inter-departmental, inter-collegiate, and interdisciplinary

approach. Research results of our faculty are published in the world's leading journals such as the

Science Citation Index and the number of papers published by our faculty stands at the forefront of

    all universities in Taiwan.

Laboratory equipments, library facilities, and campus computing and communication

services are continuously upgraded for ever-improved student utilization.

    International Students

NTHU pays special attentions to the difficulties likely to be encountered by international

students. Activities are held regularly so that international students can pursue their studies in a

    home-like environment.

As internationalization is also a major goal of the University, English-instructed courses are

offered by nearly all departments or institutes and the number of English-instructed courses and

international students are increasing every year.

    International MBA in Technology Management

    I. Introduction of Program

    Program Overview

Taiwan has made remarkable progress in the development of technology which in turn

spurs economic growth. In todays global economic value chain and supply chain,

Taiwans position has become indispensable to the world. The semiconductor technology

in Taiwan has also reached a requisite level within the global economic value chain. With

experiences from the industry, entrepreneurship, global strategy and venture capitalism,

both medium and small enterprises are transforming to become part of Taiwans

technology industry base. Taiwans unique experience can be used as a reference and

study model for countries worldwide. This is the focus area for the International MBA

(IMBA) program in Technology Management, and thus an operating method of

globalization for the College of Technology Management in National Tsing Hua

    University.

The goals of the IMBA program are as follows:

    1. Train future technology industry management personnel.

    2. Encourage foreign students to diversified knowledge by choosing relevant culture

courses among elective ones, thus enabling them to learn within a multi-cultural

    environment.

    3. Make arrangements for students to have opportunities as interns, by visiting and

interviewing Taiwan technology industry players in order to understand Taiwanese

technology industrial models. We hope to broaden studentsview and obtain practical

    knowledge from those high-tech companies.

    4. Cooperate with famous universities and consequently appreciate their programs and

thus promote dual academic degrees collectively. This would create opportunities to

    students for placements as interns.

    5. Promote academic knowledge sharing by inviting visiting professors to give related

lectures in the program. This would create and increase interactions among students

    and the visiting professors.

    Program Objectives

National Tsing Hua University is located next to the Industry Technology Research

Institute (ITRI) and Hsinchu Science and Industrial Park. The following key technology

places can be reached in an hours drive: Hsinchu Industrial District, Chu Nan Industrial

District, Tai Chung Industrial District and Tung Luo Industrial District. Apart from these

industrial districts, National Tsing Hua University already boasts of very strong research

sources, achievements and work teams from Science, Engineering, Life Science, and

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Departments. The key direction of the

IMBA program is twofold: One is to combine technology talents and resources within

the school; the other is to take the hi-tech industrial companies next to National Tsing

Hua University as training ground for students. For the program planning, the following

    objectives have been included:

    1. To cultivate talented leaders with humanism, innovation and foresight. The program

curriculum includes technology and strategy management, financial management,

venture capital management, technology marketing management, innovation

management and human resources management among others. On humanism, the aim

is to prepare the students to be aware of social values in their entirety, fully

understand different influences and changes which emerging technology will bring tosociety.

    2. To use relevant information and resources from technology industry next to National

    Tsing Hua University.

In fierce global competition, Taiwans high-tech industry appears to be the unique

operating management models, which is known for attributes such as: fast delivery,

fine quality, high mobility, and the combination of industries and the completion of

machinery systems. The program is designed to combine nearby technologicalindustrys relevant information and resources with excellent academic expertise.

NTHUs faculties have personnel from high-level technological research and

development departments and the successful technological enterprises. Furthermore,

the opportunity to place students as interns in Taiwans technological industries will

enhance the structure of the program.

    3. To combine the accumulated research achievements of all colleges within National

Tsing Hua University, including Science, Engineering, Life Science, Electrical

    Engineering and Computer Science.

The National Tsing Hua University has a strong college of Science, Engineering, and

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. In addition, the university has the only

Bioscience Research Institute in Taiwan. The superb environment and achievements

collectively support the carefully designed cluster of industrial project courses on

emerging technology development and application; that will be utilized as one of the

special course features of IMBA in Technology Management. Furthermore, the vast

experiences of the Innovation and Incubation Center and Technology Transfer Center

within the academic arena such as, software and hardware facilities, library

periodicals, and the classroom and laboratory environments/facilities.
