    January 2016

    Dear NYC Families,

Providing free, high-quality early childhood education to all children is a critical investment in the future of our City. The Pre-K For All initiative gives us an opportunity to support your childs success early in life. We have worked hard to create many free, full-day, high-quality pre-Kindergarten (pre-K) options this year in order to offer pre-K to all New York City four year-olds. All pre-K programs are held to the same high standards and must adhere to New York States curriculum expectations.

This year, the pre-K application opens on Monday, January 25, 2016. Families may apply to programs at NYC Department of Education district schools, Pre-K Centers, and full-day NYC Early Education Centers (NYCEECs) using a single application. We encourage you to review the preliminary program information available in this Pre-K Directory, as well as new programs that will be listed on Pre-K Finder (maps.nyc.gov/upk), before you complete your application.

The deadline to submit your application is Friday, March 4, 2016. You may apply online at nyc.gov/prek, over the phone by calling 718-935-2067, or in person at a Family Welcome Center.

We look forward to helping you through the pre-K application process and partnering with you as your child embarks on his or her educational journey. With Pre-K For All, Opportunity Starts Now for our children.

    Sincerely,

Mayor Bill de Blasio Chancellor Carmen Faria

n OPPORTUNITY STARTS NOW Your childs year in pre-K is a unique opportunity for learning85 percent of brain growth in children occurs by the age of five. Pre-K is truly an irreplaceable time for your childs growth and development. Studies clearly demonstrate that high-quality pre-K provides children with stronger math, reading, language, and social-emotional skills going into elementary school.

New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) free, full-day, high-quality Pre-K For All programs lay a foundation of skills and knowledge that will prepare your child for success in school and life.

About Pre-K For All Pre-K is a free program that runs five days per week from September through June. NYC children born in 2012 are eligible to attend pre-K beginning in 2016. Most pre-K options are on a full-day schedule (6 hours and 20 minutes). However, some 5-hour and half-day (2 hours and 30 minutes) options are also available.

The NYCDOEs Pre-K For All system provides free, full-day, high-quality pre-K for any child and family who wants it. Our pre-K families know their children are safe, having fun, and learning during the school day. Pre-K programs create educational experiences designed to support young children in the ways they learn and develop most effectively.

Our pre-K programs are carefully screened, approved, and monitored. Pre-K For All teachers and administrators are talented educators who meet the NYCDOEs stringent qualification requirements. They engage children in meaningful and enriching learning experiences that build on the strengths and diverse backgrounds children bring to the classroom. Teachers are sparking wonder and igniting learning in our children.

What to Expect in Pre-K For AllIn pre-K, your child will receive instruction focused on developing the foundational knowledge and skills outlined in the New York State Prekindergarten Foundation for the Common Core learning standards (please visit www.p12.nysed.gov/ciai/common_core_standards/pdfdocs/nyslsprek.pdf for more information).

Pre-K classrooms are full of inquiry, discovery, learning, and joy. Teachers will support and encourage your child to learn and try new things, develop friendships, adjust to routines, solve problems, express their ideas, and use new vocabulary throughout the day. Your child will have opportunities to participate in whole group, small group, and independent classroom experiences, as well as physical movement activities, using a wide range of books and other learning materials.

Pre-K students are active learners who develop language and social skills while deepening their understanding of concepts through hands-on learning, music, and play. They will have daily opportunities to explore new concepts and make connections in learning centers such as Blocks/Construction, Science/Discovery, Art, and Dramatic Play. For example, children who listen to a story about trains would grasp how trains are built, how they move, and why we use them by creating their own train system with blocks or acting out the roles of conductor and passengers. Active involvement by families in early education is essential to children's success in the elementary classroom and later learning. Our programs will partner with you and your family to ensure that your child has a successful year in pre-K.

What Your Child Will Do in a Pre-K For All Program

Develop Skills and Knowledge in Five Areas.

Approaches to Learning: How your child develops curiosity, persistence, creativity, and imagination.

Physical Development and Health: How your child develops and uses muscles and senses to interact with and react to the environment and how he or she develops safety and self-care skills.

Social and Emotional Development: How your child interacts with others and develops the skills to form positive relationships that will give meaning to his or her experiences at home, in school, and in the community.

  • 2

Communication, Language, and Literacy: How your child expresses ideas verbally and nonverbally, listens and takes in information, and begins to make meaning in text and pictures.

Cognition and Knowledge of the World: How your child thinks critically and makes connections between math, science, social studies, technology, and the arts.

Together, the five focus areas provide a foundation children need to succeed in pre-K and beyond.

Have Daily Opportunities That Encourage Independent Exploration and Collaboration with Peers. Throughout each day, teaching and learning is balanced between teacher facilitated time (whole group, transitions, small group) and child-initiated learning experiences (center time, outdoor play).

The order of activities will vary for each program. Some programs offer additional movement, science, or other special activities. Below is a sample schedule for the pre-K day:

    Arrival Routines (unpacking, sign-in, handwashing)

    Family Style Instructional Breakfast

    Music & Movement

    Whole Class Meeting

Learning Centers and Small Groups (students experience different content areas such as Art, Block Play, Music & Movement, Science & Discovery)

    Outdoor Play

    Family Style Instructional Lunch

    Read Aloud

    Rest

End of Day Routines (group discussion, prepare for dismissal)

Prepare for Elementary School. High-quality pre-K is the first step in your childs path towards college and career readiness. The foundation of social-emotional, language, physical, and cognitive skills developed in pre-K prepares children for kindergarten.

Teachers in elementary, middle school, and high school grades build on those skills to help children continue to realize their potential. For example, children who learn how to solve problems with persistence, creativity, and collaboration in pre-K will be ready to work through more complex problems and tasks later on. Children who regularly engage in group reading and other early literacy activities in pre-K gain listening, comprehension, and language skills that are critical to becoming strong readers.

Have Opportunities for Rest and Nutritious Meals. Full-day programs provide a daily rest time for students. During this time, students are encouraged to rest, relax, and nap. Quiet activities will be provided for students who do not nap. The length of naptime may vary depending on the changing needs of students over the course of the school year and the amount of time they spend in the program each day.

All pre-K programs provide nutritious meals for children and work with families to accommodate food allergies. Full-day programs offer either breakfast and lunch or lunch and a nutritious snack. The NYCDOE has adopted the guidelines of the New York State Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to set nutritional standards for meals served to pre-K students.

n PRE-K ADMISSIONS OVERVIEW If your child lives in New York City and was born in 2012, he or she is eligible to start free pre-K in September 2016. This includes students with disabilities and students whose first language is not English. We are excited to welcome your child to our programs and are here to help you along the way.

You may apply to full-day programs at district schools, NYC Early Education Centers (NYCEECs), and NYCDOE Pre-K Centers using the same application. If you wish to apply to 5-hour, half-day, or charter school pre-K programs, please contact those sites directly. Half-day, 5-hour, and charter school pre-K programs are included in the program listings in this Directory.

Here are a few important facts that cover the most frequently asked questions about pre-K admissions:

Admission is not first-come, first-served. You can apply at any time between January 25 and March 4, 2016.

You may apply to any pre-K programs in NYC. Your child will be considered for placement at each program on your application based on a priority order. Review the Pre-K Admissions Priorities section for more information.

The NYCDOE has worked to make pre-K available to every eligible child, but the number of applicants may exceed the number of seats available in some programs. Placement in a particular pre-K program is not guaranteed.

There are four steps in the initial admissions process (Main Round) in the year leading up to pre-K:

    1. Before You Apply: Explore Your Options

    2. Submit Your Application Between January 25 and March 4, 2016

Pre-K For All Program OptionsThe NYCDOE offers a variety of options so you can find a pre-K program that is a good fit for your child and family. Free, full-day, high-quality pre-K programs are available in four settingsdistrict schools, NYCEECs, NYCDOE Pre-K Centers, and charter schools.

District Schools: Programs located within public elementary schools and overseen by the schools principal.

NYCEECs: Community-based organizations that contract directly with the NYCDOE to provide pre-K. These programs are selected through a rigorous evaluation process and are supported by the NYCDOEs Division of Early Childhood Education. While most NYCEECs offer full-day instruction, some programs may offer half-day or 5-hour schedules.

  • 4

NYCDOE Pre-K Centers: Unique learning environments dedicated exclusively to pre-K students and led and operated by NYCDOE staff. Pre-K Centers are located either in existing district school buildings or standalone NYCDOE sites.

Charter Schools: Public school programs that contract directly with the NYCDOE and are chosen through a rigorous evaluation process. Learn more in the Pre-K in Charter Schools section of this Directory.

Before You Apply: Explore Your OptionsEach Pre-K Directory includes pre-K programs at district schools, NYCDOE Pre-K Centers, NYCEECs, and charter schools for each NYC borough. To learn about programs in boroughs not included in this Directory, please use the other Pre-K Directories available at nyc.gov/prek or visit Pre-K Finder at maps.nyc.gov/upk.

Visiting programs of interest is a very important part of exploring your options. To find open house and tour schedules, contact programs directly or visit nyc.gov/prek. Its also important that you know how long it takes to travel from your home to the programs to which you are applying.

Please note that some NYCEEC programs may have additional eligibility criteria related to your household income, address, and childcare needs. As you are exploring pre-K programs in the Directory, look to see whether there are any additional eligibility requirements at programs you are interested in. Review the Select Eligibility for Some NYCEECs section for more information.

Additionally, please note that NYCEECs have some flexibility in how they choose to schedule program hours. A full-day NYCEEC may choose to schedule program hours on weekends and/or holidays, while continuing to meet the minimum requirement of 31 hours and 40 minutes of program instruction per week. Some providers may also choose to schedule a short break in the middle of the day for non-program activities. This time will not be counted toward minimum operating hours. If a NYCEEC chooses to offer such non-program activities during this time, it is optional, and parents who wish their children to take part must submit a form authorizing participation.

Details about which NYCEECs will be utilizing the flexible scheduling policy will be available on Pre-K Finder (maps.nyc.gov/upk) or in the printed Directory Update (available at Family Welcome Centers). You should always contact programs directly with any questions about scheduling.

For the latest information (including Dual Language and Enhanced Language Support programs), please use Pre-K Finder (maps.nyc.gov/upk) to research pre-K programs and find new choices before completing your application.

Submit Your Application Between January 25 and March 4, 2016Between January 25 and March 4, 2016, you can apply to full-day pre-K programs at district schools, NYCDOE Pre-K Centers, and NYCEECs that you believe would be a good fit for your child using a single application. You can apply online at nyc.gov/prek, over the phone by calling 718-935-2067, or in person.

n THE PRE-K APPLICATIONYou can apply for pre-K between January 25 and March 4, 2016 in one of the three ways: online, over the phone, or in person. The application methods are described in detail below. Please do not submit your application by mail; applications received by mail will not be accepted.

On your application, you can list up to 12 pre-K programs of interest. Your list should be based on your program preference order. The program you prefer the most should be the first choice on your application; your second choice should be listed second, and so on.

Placement in a particular program is not guaranteed. However, your chances of receiving an offer to one of the programs on your application will increase with the number of program choices you list. After you list your most preferred choice(s), you should also include other programs in case your child cannot be placed at one of your most preferred programs. Adding more programs to your list will not decrease your chances of receiving an offer to your first choice program. You should only list programs where you would actually enroll your child if you were to receive an offer.

If your child can be matched to more than one program based on his or her priority level at those programs, you will still only receive an offer to one of those programswhichever one was ranked higher on your application. This is why it is important that your application program choice order reflects your true preferences for your childs placement.

NYCEEC programs receiving this additional funding are also typically able to provide free or low-cost extended day services to eligible families. While full-day pre-K is free and available to all NYC four-year-olds, programs with ACS EarlyLearn contracts (Head Start and/or Child Care funding) or direct Head Start contract that provide extended care hours may require a co-pay due to the subsidized wrap-around services provided.

It is very important to contact NYCEECs that have these additional eligibility criteria before completing your application, in order to find out about their requirements for enrolling your child, what schedules are offered, and whether there are any fees associated for subsidized services. You should only apply to these programs if you believe your family will meet their eligibility criteria, which you can check by calling the program directly. You can also check if you are eligible for ACS programs by visiting www1.nyc.gov/site/acs/early-care/eligibility.page or calling 311.

Please Note: If your child already attends a Head Start program, he or she will continue to remain eligible for Head Start services when he or she turns four.

WaitlistsIf you do not receive an offer to your first choice program, your child will automatically be placed on the waitlist for that program and any other programs you ranked higher than the program where your child receives an offer. For example, if you receive a placement offer for the program you listed third on your application, your child will automatically be added to the waitlists for your first and second choices. Programs will contact you directly if a seat becomes available for your child; no additional action is required to remain on the waitlist.

Additionally, if you do not receive an offer to any of the programs listed on your application, you will receive an offer to a program with available seats, as close as possible to your home address. Your child will also be placed on the waitlist for all programs listed on your application.

Round 2 Application PeriodThe NYCDOE is actively working to create additional full-day pre-K opportunities for September 2016 across all pre-K settings. These new programs will not be part of the Main Round application period, but we expect to announce newly added programs in the spring of 2016 during a second pre-K application period (called Round 2).

Regardless of whether your family receives and/or accepts a pre-K offer during the Main Round, you will be able to submit an application during Round 2 for the participating programs that are of interest to you. The Round 2 application period will open on Monday, May 2, 2016. The deadline to apply to programs in Round 2 is Friday, May 20, 2016.

n PRE-K ADMISSIONS PRIORITIESYour child will be considered for placement at each program you list on your application based on each programs admissions priorities. Students who fall in the first priority group will be considered for placement first; students in the second priority group will be considered next; and so on, until all seats have been filled. If there are more applicants than seats available within a given priority group, seats will be assigned by random selection among applicants at the same priority level. Admissions priorities differ among program types.

District School Admissions PrioritiesLiving in the zone or district of a school and having another child who attends a school you apply to are factors that impact which priority group your child falls into for each district school on your application.

Zoned School and District. New York City is divided into 32 Community School Districts. Your district is determined by your home address. In general, students who reside in a schools district have a higher priority to attend that school than students living outside the district. Your zoned school is also determined by your home address. Students who live within a schools zone are prioritized for admission to that school.*

To find your zoned school and district, call 311 or visit the NYCDOE School Search page (nyc.gov/schools/schoolsearch) and enter your home address in the search bar.

Sibling Priority for District School Applicants. A sibling is a brother or sister (including half-siblings, stepsiblings, and foster siblings) of the applicant, who lives in the same household. To receive sibling priority to a district school, the applicants sibling must be pre-registered or enrolled at the school in grades K-5 at the time of application submission AND must be entering grades K-5 in September 2016. District schools are responsible for verifying sibling status before placements are made. Applicants only receive sibling priority for admission to the school(s) where an eligible sibling is verified.

While there are some district schools and programs with admissions priorities that are different, most district schools use the priorities described below:

Standard Admissions Priorities for District Schools.

    1. Students residing in the zone, who will have a sibling at the school in grades K-5 in September 2016.*

    2. Students residing in the zone, who do not have a sibling at the school.*

    3. Students residing in the district, who will have a sibling at the school, and who have no zoned school or whose zoned school has no pre-K program.

    4. Students residing in the district, who will have a sibling at the school, and who are zoned to a different school which has a pre-K program.

    5. Students residing in the borough, who will have a sibling at the school.

    6. Students residing out-of-borough, who will have a sibling at the school.

    7. Students residing in the district, who have no zoned school or whose zoned school has no pre-K program.

    8. Students residing in the district, who are zoned to a different school which has a pre-K program.

    9. Students residing in the borough.

    10. Students residing out-of-borough.

*Does not apply to non-zoned schools.

Throughout New York City, there are district schools without zones called non-zoned schools. For non-zoned schools, the first two admissions priorities above do not apply. District 1 (Lower East Side, Manhattan), District 7 (South Bronx) and District 23 (Brownsville, Brooklyn) are choice districts, which means they do not have any zoned schools.

NYCEEEC Admissions PrioritiesIf your family already receives services from a NYCEEC or your child speaks a native language other than English that the NYCEEC specializes in serving, your child may have additional priority to attend one of the NYCEECs on your application. NYCEECs are responsible for verifying whether a student is eligible for these priorities before placements are made; please read below for more information.

Sibling Priority for NYCEEC Applicants. Siblings of NYCEEC applicants may be of any age from birth grade 12, as long as they will be enrolled in a program at the same NYCEEC for September 2016 (as examples, a younger sibling enrolled in a daycare program offered by the NYCEEC or an older sibling enrolled in an after-school program offered by the NYCEEC would both count as siblings). NYCEECs are responsible for verifying sibling status before placements are made. Applicants only receive sibling priority to the program(s) where a sibling is verified as enrolled.

Standard Admissions Priorities for NYC Early Education Centers.

    1. Current students enrolled at the NYCEEC (for the 2015-2016 school year) in three-year-old programs.

    2. Siblings of current students enrolled at the NYCEEC.

    3. Students whose families currently receive free or subsidized social services from the organization operating the NYCEEC pre-K program.

    4. Students speaking a native language other than English that the NYCEEC specializes in serving.

    5. All other students.

NYCDOE Pre-K Center Admissions PrioritiesNYCDOE Pre-K Centers prioritize students that live within the same school district as the program over students residing in another district. Since NYCDOE Pre-K Centers only serve pre-K students, there are no sibling priorities.

Standard Admissions Priorities for NYCDOE Pre-K Centers.

    1. Students residing in the same district as the Pre-K Center.

    2. Students residing outside the district.

n PRE-K IN CHARTER SCHOOLSCharter schools are free public schools that are open to all NYC students. Charter schools operate independently from the regulations outlined by the NYCDOE (known as Chancellors Regulations). Instead, charter schools function according to the terms of a performance contract, or charter issued by a New York State authorizer. Charter schools are held accountable for meeting specific academic goals and often try different approaches to ensure their students meet those goals. Any student eligible for admission to a traditional district school is eligible for admission to a public charter school in NYC.

If you would like to apply to pre-K at a charter school, please contact the charter school directly to learn about the application options available and how the charter school prioritizes applicants for placement. If there are charter school pre-K programs in this borough at the time of printing, they are listed in this Pre-K Directory. Additional charter school pre-K programs may be announced in the spring.

Please check our website (nyc.gov/prek), visit Pre-K Finder (maps.nyc.gov/upk), call 718-935-2009, or visit a Family Welcome Center for the latest information.

n FAMILIES OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIESAll families with children born in 2012, including students with disabilities, may apply to pre-K programs for the 2016-2017 school year. Some families will work with their local Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) to identify a program that meets the needs of their child, if a special class or special class in an integrated setting is recommended. Regional CPSE offices serve families based on the school district in which a family lives. The CPSE offices also ensure that families whose home language is a language other than English are supported before, during, and following the referral process, including but not limited to providing interpretation services and bilingual assessments as needed. Families should feel free to reach out to their regional CPSE office to discuss available supports.

To learn more about getting started with special education, and admissions for students already receiving special education services, please read the sections below.

Students New to Special EducationSpecial education services are available for preschool children with disabilities or delays in development that may affect learning. You can send a written request for an evaluation to your local CPSE. If your child is found to be eligible, the CPSE will work with you to create an Individualized Education Program (IEP).

An IEP is a plan that describes your childs skills and abilities, and outlines the services that the NYCDOE will provide to meet your childs unique needs. These services may be delivered at your home, at a NYCDOE pre-K program, in a separate preschool special education program, or other child care location.

To learn more about preschool special education, contact your local CPSE or visit schools.nyc.gov/Academics/SpecialEducation/tellmemore/information-parents-preschoolers.htm.

Students with Individualized Education Programs If your child already has an Individualized Education Program (IEP), enrollment in a pre-K program is based on his or her IEP recommendation. To find your childs recommendation, look at the Recommended Special Education Programs and Services section of his or her IEP.

Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) and/or Related Services.

Children with IEPs that recommend SEIT and/or Related Services can receive these services at a NYCDOE pre-K program (district school, NYCEEC, Pre-K Center, or charter school).

Families should apply to pre-K using the application process found in this Directory.

Visit a Family Welcome Center or call 718-935-2009 for more information.

Due to classroom ratio requirements, children recommended for SEIT and/or Related Services may not be able to enroll in programs that have only Special Class in an Integrated Setting classrooms. To find out whether a particular program has only Special Class in an Integrated Setting classrooms, review the program lists in this Directory or call providers directly.

Special Class or Special Class in an Integrated Setting.

If your child has an IEP that recommends Special Class or Special Class in an Integrated Setting, you should work with your local CPSE to find an appropriate placement at a preschool special education program.

The pre-K application process discussed in this Directory does not apply to these settings.

Contact your CPSE if you have any questions about your childs placement.

You may still want to apply to a general education pre-K program, in case:

You would like your child to be reevaluated by the CPSE to determine whether a recommendation of SEIT and/or Related Services may be appropriate.

You would like your child to attend a NYCDOE general education pre-K program (district school, NYCEEC, Pre-K Center, or charter school) before or after his or her recommended half-day or full-

day special education program. Contact your CPSE to enroll in the preschool special education program and contact the Division of Early Childhood Education (call 212-374-0351 or email [email protected]) for more information about participating in a NYCDOE general education pre-K program for the remainder of the day.

Committees on Special Education / Committees on Preschool Special EducationCommittees on Preschool Special Education (CPSEs) are responsible for coordinating and carrying out the special education process for preschool children (ages 3 to 5). Families are served by CPSEs in the school district in which a family lives. Each CPSE is part of a larger Committee on Special Education (CSE) office. A Chairperson oversees the CSE office, including the CPSE in it. There are 13 CSE offices located throughout the city. If you do not know what school district you live in, call 311 or use the NYCDOEs School Search schools.nyc.gov/schoolsearch/.

n FAMILIES OF CHILDREN WHOSE HOME LANGUAGE IS A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISHThe NYCDOE provides a range of pre-K program options to ensure that all children gain foundational language, cognitive, and social emotional skills, including children whose home language is a language other than English. Below you will find an overview of the options available to pre-K students who are native speakers of English or other languages. These programs offer supports in English and a specific target language.

Dual Language (DL) programs provide instruction in two languages (half in English, half in the target language), with the aim of enabling all children to become bilingual over the course of their education. These programs support children whose home language is a language other than English as well as English-speaking children who are interested in learning a second language. Through their interactions and intentional teaching, both groups of children are supported in the development of the two languages.

Dual Language programs aim for a balance of children whose home language is English and children whose home language is a language other than English. If you apply to these programs, you will be asked to provide your childs primary language spoken at home. Language may be used to prioritize applicants.

Please Note: Programs that offer Dual Language options will be marked in the printed Pre-K Directory Update, the online application, and the online Pre-K Finder with information about which target language is supported. If a program offers both a Dual Language option and a general education option, and you wish to apply to both options, you must list the program twice on your application.

Enhanced Language Support (ELS) programs offer additional supports for children in English and whose home language is a language other than English and their families. These programs focus on the language other than English, known as the target language, most commonly spoken by children and families. Programs build on the target language in a variety of ways. These may include the use of the target language during story time, music and movement, or other whole group activities. Teachers may encourage peer interactions during small group and center time to help children share ideas and understand new concepts. Families are regularly encouraged to share language, stories, food, music and additional aspects from their culture. The classroom also has schedules, music, a wide range of books, and labels in English and the target language readily accessible.

At least one staff member who speaks the programs target language is regularly available on site to meet with families and provide additional supports. Please contact the site directly to confirm which staff members speak and support the target language.

Programs with Enhanced Language Support tailor their support to children who speak the programs target language. If you apply to these programs, you will be asked to provide your childs primary language spoken at home. Language may be used to prioritize applicants.

Please Note: Programs that offer Enhanced Language Support will be marked in the Directory Update, the online application, and the online Pre-K Finder with information about which target language is supported.

Additional Language Support Options: District schools and NYCEECs may have other pre-K options for children who speak languages other than English at home. Please contact schools and NYCEECs directly for more information about available services and programs that meet the specific linguistic needs of your child.

Programs may be listed in the Pre-K Directory more than once if they offer multiple schedule options.

Full-day NYCEECs are listed before full-day district schools and NYCDOE Pre-K Centers.

If you would like to find information about pre-K programs in other boroughs, you can access other Pre-K Directories online at nyc.gov/prek.

Below are explanations of the information in the program lists.

Program Name and Code. You need to know the program name and code to complete your application. Please note that some programs may have the same or similar names, but different codes.

Accessibility Information (included for district schools and NYCDOE Pre-K Centers only). The icon indicates a district school that is functionally accessible. For more information, review the Site Accessibility section of this Pre-K Directory.

Contact Information. Provides information about how to get in touch with program staff; whether it is in person, by phone, or by email, make sure you are aware of the ways you can reach the programs you are interested in. Program Information. Provides information about meals served, playspace, and whether extended hours are available (late pick-up and/or early drop-off). Some extended day programs may require a fee. This section also includes public transit information. Additionally, programs may have other features not listed here or updates to the features listed; always contact pre-K programs directly for the most up-to-date information.

2015 Admissions Information. This section provides the total seat number for each pre-K program for the 2015-2016 school year. It also reports the 2015 admissions outcomes for full-day programs that were part of the last years process.

The Lowest Priority Group Accepted information is meant to give you a sense of your childs likelihood of admission to a pre-K program for the 2016-2017 school year, based on the prior years admissions. This section tells you the lowest priority group that received placement offers to attend the program in 2015. All applicants in higher priority groups received offers. Some families in lower priority groups may have received waitlist offers later in the process.

The table below lists a full description of the priority groups youll see in the Lowest Priority Group Accepted section. Applicants may fall into different priority groups for different programs. As you look through the program listings in this book, please refer back to this page to understand which priority groups applicants were admitted to your programs of interest in 2015.

Programs marked with n/a were not part of the admissions process in 2015 (new programs or late additions). Additionally, the Lowest Priority Group Accepted information is unavailable for half-day, 5-hour, and charter school pre-K programs, to which families applied directly.

Program Alerts. You may find text alerting you to any special requirements or restrictions at the program.

May have income or other eligibility requirements indicates a NYCEEC program that has eligibility criteria related to household income, address of residence, and/or childcare needs. Please contact the program directly, before completing your application, to find out about additional eligibility requirements. For more information, please see the Select Eligibility for Some NYCEECs section.

Families with children currently enrolled in one of these programs still must apply in order to receive an offer to attend that program (or another program). If your child already attends one of these programs as a three-year-old, you are strongly encouraged to apply to the same site for pre-K, or risk losing your childs seat to a new applicant.

If your child has an IEP recommending Related Services and/or SEIT, contact the program directly for more information before applying indicates a program that only has Special Class in an Integrated Setting classrooms. Due to classroom ratio requirements, children recommended for SEIT and/or Related Services may not be able to enroll in these programs. For more information, please see the Families of Students with Disabilities section.

Other alerts may deal with special priorities or admissions processes at a handful of programs.

Use Pre-K Finder for Up-to-Date Program Listings. This Pre-K Directory contains program lists that are subject to change. For the latest information (including Dual Language and Enhanced Language Support programs), please use Pre-K Finder (maps.nyc.gov/upk) to research pre-K programs and find new choices before completing your application. Pre-K Finder is an online search tool that lets you find pre-K programs near you. You can also search for programs with specific features.

n APPLYING FOR KINDERGARTEN FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEARYou must apply for kindergarten during the kindergarten admission process next year, whether or not your child attends pre-K, and regardless of where. Enrollment in a pre-K program does not necessarily affect your childs enrollment for kindergarten. While participation in pre-K is one of the kindergarten admissions priorities for district schools, placement at a particular school depends on the number of kindergarten applicants to that school from several other priority groups. Zoned students and students with a sibling in the school are prioritized for kindergarten placement ahead of non-zoned students who participated in pre-K at that school.

Students attending NYCDOE Pre-K Centers that are located in district schools do not have any additional priority to attend kindergarten at that school.
