DR. BRIAN BOWMANUniversity of North TexasDr. Brian L. Bowman enjoys a distinguished career as a soloist, clinician, recording artist, educator and administrator. Dr. Bowman has held the principal euphonium position, in addition to being a featured soloist, in each of the bands he has been associated with: The University of Michigan Symphony Band, The United States Navy Band, The United States Bicentennial Band, The United States Air Force Band and The River City Brass Band in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is in demand as a guest soloist with high school, university, municipal and professional ensembles. He has performed as a soloist in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, The Virgin Islands, Norway, Finland, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Hungary, Great Britain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, Japan, Tonga Taiwan, Thailand and the People’s Republic of China. He has appeared as tenor tubist with the National Symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the Colorado Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra Symphonica of Xlapa, Mexico. He has performed concertos with the Sapporo Japan, Symphony Orchestra the North Carolina Symphony and the Madison Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra.

CARYL CONGERCollaborative Pianist

Pianist, Caryl Worthington Conger, continues her passion of musical collaboration, performing regularly with wind and brass artists in recitals and conferences throughout the U. S. and abroad including the annual U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Conferences and the recent ITEA conferences in Finland and Greensboro and Denver. Her niche of interest has been her collaboration with tuba and euphonium artists including Daniel Perantoni, Patrick Sheridan, Oystein Baads-vik, Roger Bobo, and Harvey Phillips, Steve Mead, Adam Frey, Roger Behrend, and Brian Bowman.

PATRICIO COSENTINOBrass Band BlechKLANGPatricio Cosentino currently lives in Germany working as a freelance performer. As a soloist, he can be heard with orchestras such as Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional Argentina, Orquesta Sinfonica de Campinas, Orquesta Sinfonica de Córdoba, Banda Sinfonica Nacional de Ciegos “Pascual Grisolía”, Georgia Brass Band, Banda Sinfonica de la Policía Nacional de Paris. He has given recitals and solo concerts in some of the most important festivals arround the world, such as ITEC (International Tuba Euphonium Conference), IEI Festival for Euphonium and Tuba, Curso de Verano de Brasilia, Curso Internacional de Música SESC, Festival Internacional Carlos Gomes, Curso Internacional de Musica de Jaen. He is a member of the Enrique Crespo Brass Ensemble and Pampa Brass. He received his musical training at the Hochschule für Musik “Franz Liszt” in Weimar with Walter Hilgers (2003-2009). During this time he won the DAAD scholarship. Notably, Patricio Cosentino worked together with many South American composers to develop new repertoire for euphonium and tuba. This work has produced over 250 new pieces and arrangements from composers of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Perú, Brazil and Colombia.

In 2013, he recorded his debut CD with American euphonium soloist Adam Frey. With this recording, he completed one of his personal goals, being the Complete CD repertoire of new music for euphonium and tuba by Argentinian composers many of which are published by Absolute Brass.

CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER ANDY DAVID

University of North Georgia Chief Warrant Offi cer Andy David serves as head of the Department

of Music at the University of North Georgia (UNG). David came to UNG in 2002 as director of bands and was successful in building the university’s marching band and jazz band into nationally recognized collegiate ensembles. Prior to his work at the university, Chief David taught in the public schools of Georgia and Florida and was named Teacher of the Year in 2000 and 2002. For four summers, he served

as director of jazz studies and head of the Georgia Governor’s Honors Department of Music. David performed internationally as a

member of the United States Army Band Europe, the Army Ground Forces Band, and the 82nd Airborne Division Band. His military awards include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal,

NATO Bosnia Service Ribbon, Southwest Asia Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, the Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. David holds advanced degrees in performance

and instrumental conducting from Columbus State University and the Florida State University. In 2013, he earned the Artist Certifi cate in Conducting from the New England Conservatory of Music. He continues to perform and conduct professionally in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Warren Deck was the Principal Tubist of the New York Philhar-monic from 1979-2001. Before his appointment to the Phil-harmonic, Warren held the positions of Principal Tubist with the Houston Symphony and Teacher of Tuba at Rice Univer-sity for two seasons.Warren made his solo debut with the Philharmonic in 1989, performing the world premier of Roger Kellaway’s Songs of Ascent for Tuba and Orchestra, commissioned by the Philhar-monic.As a member The Juilliard School faculty from 1989-2002, he has been active with students and has given master classes in many regions of the world including the former Soviet Union, the Far East and South America.Apart from the orchestral records Warren has made with the Philharmonic, he has made four recordings with The Canadi-

ADAM FREYUniversity of North Georgia & Emory UniversityAdam Frey has served as the Artistic Director of the IET Fes-tival for the past 13 years and travels the world sharing his music with audiences and students. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Adam Frey received his musical training at the Uni-versity of Georgia, the Royal Northern College of Music, and the University of Salford (DMA). As a major ambassador of the euphonium, Adam has more than one hunderd works that have been composed or specifi cally arranged for him. Adam has soloed with orchestras the world over, including the world famous Boston Pops, Cheju Symphony Orchestra (South Korea), US Army Orchestra (Washington DC), Harvard Pops (MA), Fort Collins (CO), Indian Hill (MA), the Vaasa Symphony Orchestra (Finland), Atlanta Phil-harmonic (GA), Cascade (WA), Greensboro (NC), Clemson (SC), LaGrange (GA), Minot (ND), Bellevue Philharmonic (WA), and Northeastern (MA) Symphony Orchestras. LAURA GORDYCollaborative Pianist

Pianist LAURA GORDY has distinguished herself as a powerful champion and performer of contemporary music, with over 80 commissions and premieres, and many professional recordings. She co-founded and co-directed the award-winning new music ensemble Thamyris, and has performed with Sonic Generator, Bent Frequency, and Medici Trio. A sought-after collaborative recitalist, Dr. Gordy has had the honor of sharing the stage with many renowned musicians, including Richard Stoltzman, Alexa Still, Cecylia Arzewski, Martin Chalifour, Christopher Rex, and Richard Svoboda. Dr. Gordy earned degrees in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music

(highest honors), Rice University Shepherd School of Music, and the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. She studied piano with Aloys Kontarsky (Cologne, Germany), Amanda Penick, Mary Norris Tipton and Jeanne Kirstein, and harpsichord with Eiji Hashimoto. A scholarship student at the Aspen and Round Top Music Festivals, she has also received study grants from the Goethe Institut and The King Baudouin Foundation. She has performed throughout the United States and in Europe, Asia and Latin America. A former member of the Emory University music faculty, she has taught piano, chamber music, theory and Javanese gamelan. She teaches piano, accompanies various ensembles and performs works of and collaborates with select contemporary composers.

DR. JAMES GOURLAYRiver City Brass BandJames Gourlay was born in Scotland where, at an early age, he was volunteered to play in the local school brass band. He made rapid progress and soon became Scottish National solo champion at junior and senior levels. Gourlay later studied tuba performance at the Royal College of Music, London, but left after a short time to take up a full time position in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Three years later, he became principal tuba of the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London. After 10 great years at the BBC, working with some of the world’s greatest conductors, Gourlay was invited to become the solo tubist of the Zurich Opera House Orchestra in Switzerland. Today, James Gourlay is the General Director of Pittsburgh’s own River City Brass, the world’s only full-time professional brass band, performing 70 concerts annually all over the USA, and Director of Instrumental Music and University Bands at Wheeling Jesuit University, West Virginia.

ANDREW HITZGeorge Mason UniversityAndrew Hitz is an internationally renowned soloist, clinician and speaker having appeared in over 40 states and 30 countries including Japan, Brazil, Russia and Singapore. He recently ended a 14 year tenure as the tuba player for Boston Brass. Andrew has also appeared with the National Symphony, Baltimore Symphony and the Marine Band of Mexico. Andrew currently teaches tuba and euphonium at George Mason University and Gettysburg College. As an Educational Ambassador for Jupiter Band Instruments, he appears all over the world as both a teacher and performer. Andrew has presented at over 20 state music educator conferences and taught master classes at some of the fi nest music schools in the world including Juilliard, the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore. Andrew hosts two podcasts through the Pedal Note Media Podcast Network. “The Brass Junkies” is a podcast interviewing the best brass players in the world on everything from the serious to the ridiculous, just like the music business. The other is “The Entrepreneurial Musician” which features interviews with some of the most successful people from the music business.

DR. J. ASHLEY JARRELLUniversity of North Georgia

Dr. J. Ashley Jarrell currently serves as Director of Instrumental Music at the University of North Georgia - Gainesville Campus, where his responsibilities include conducting instrumental ensembles and overseeing all facets of the instrumental music program. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Jarrell served as Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where his teaching and conducting responsibilities included the Hindsley Symphonic Band, Introduction to Conducting, Advanced Conducting and Graduate Wind

Literature and History. He received the Master of Arts degree in Wind Conducting from Middle Tennessee State University and the Bachelor of Music degree from East Tennessee State University. Before coming to the University of Illinois, Dr. Jarrell served as Director of Bands at Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Magnet School in Nashville, Tennessee. Consistently named by U.S. News and World Report and Newsweek magazines as one of the fi fty best high schools in the nation, Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Magnet School Bands received numerous superior ratings, accolades, and three performances for the Tennessee Music Education Association Conference in the span of six years during Dr. Jarrell’s tenure. Previously, Dr. Jarrell also served as Associate Director of Bands at Middle Tennessee State University and Associate Director of Bands at Harpeth High School.

CHARAE KRUEGERAtlanta Opera Orchestra & Atlanta Ballet OrchestraCellist Charae Krueger is Principal Cellist for the Atlanta Opera Orchestra and the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra. She is the Cello Artist-In-Residence at Kennesaw State University. Ms. Krueger enjoys chamber music and solo recital work and plays throughout the Southeastern U.S. She is a regular featured artist at The Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival in North Carolina, the Grand Teton Music Festival in Wyoming and at the North Georgia Chamber Music Festival. Her solo and chamber music recitals have been featured on NPR’s Performance Today, WABE Radio Atlanta and WGBH Radio Boston. She also plays frequently with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Krueger also enjoys recording studio work and has played on albums of Bruce Springsteen, Faith Hill and Natalie Cole. Ms. Krueger received her early cello training in Canada at the Regina Conservatory of Music. She went on to study at Brandon University and received her Bachelor of Music Performance degree from New England Conservatory in Boston. She also holds an Artist Diploma from the Longy School of Music in Cambridge MA. She continued her training during the summers at the Banff Centre in Canada and did quartet training with the Juilliard Quartet at the summer program at the Juilliard School.

GLENN VAN LOOYEuphonium SoloistGlenn Van Looy was introduced to playing at a young age by his father, bass trombonist Geert Van Looy. Immediately falling in love with the euphonium he continued study at the Secondary School of Art in Antwerp and the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, under the guidance of Nick Ost. Glenn’s incredible journey as a soloist has seen him win prestigious competitions in Europe and beyond. His contribution to band performances has been celebrated through soloist awards at the Flemish Open Brass Band Championship and twice at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (Holland). He has also received awards from Great Britain’s historic brass band contests, including the National Brass Band Championships 2011, British Open Senior Cup 2011 and British Open Senior Trophy 2010; all of which he performed with the Beaumaris Band (Wales). It is Glenn’s achievements away from brass band contesting that separates him from his contemporaries. He has won the solo championships of his native Belgium in every category, the European Solo Championships in Linz (Austria), been the youngest winner of the British Open Solo Championship and the sought after title of International Soloist of the Year at the Ern Keller Memorial in Sydney (Australia). He has also won other prestigious intonational titles including the Jeju International Brass Competition (South Korea), UFAM Contest in Paris (France), Lieksa International Euphonium Competition (Finland) and the Dexia Classic Competition (Belgium); after which Glenn performed the Cosma euphonium concerto with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra.at Arlington and Texas Woman’s University. He also served as the Euphonium Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas, where he completed a DMA in Euphonium Performance.

EARLE LOUDERNew Sousa BandDr. Earle Louder is retired Distinguished Professor Emeritus of euphonium and tuba from Morehead State University, Kentucky, where he also served as Resident-Artist for 27 years. Before his tenure at Morehead State, he was for 12 seasons principal and featured euphonium soloist and head of the brass department of “The World Famous United States Navy Band”, Washington, D.C., and he conducted the Navy Band Ceremonial Unit. Before his service with the Navy Band, he was principal euphonium and assistant conductor of the 46th Infantry Div. Band of the Michigan State National Guard.His education includes an undergraduate degree from Michigan State University, studying under the renowned euphonium artist Leonard V. Falcone. His doctoral work was completed at Florida State University from which he holds the distinction of being the fi rst person to complete the Doctor of Music degree in Euphonium Performance.

Acclaimed as one of the fi nest euphonium virtuosos of all time, Dr. Louder performs on three low brass instruments -- trombone, tuba and euphonium -- a rare achievement for professional musicians. Dr. Louder is also in great demand as a guest euphonium soloist, clinician, adjudicator, and conductor in the United States and internationally. Currently, he is principal and featured euphonium soloist with Keith Brion’s “New Sousa Band”, Dr. Leonard B. Smith’s “Detroit Concert Band” and Blossom Music Center Festival Band”, and a performer on euphonium with the newly-formed euphonium/tuba ensemble “Symphonia.” He is a permanent faculty member at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan

DEVIN REIDLanier Middle SchoolT. Devin Reid is currently an active musician and educator throughout the southeast. A native of Fayetteville, NC, Mr. Reid is a 2005 recipient of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship. He holds a Master of Music in Wind Band Conducting from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His primary conducting teachers include Dr. Robert Ambrose, Dr. Chester Phillips, and Dr. Kevin Geraldi. He studied percussion with Dr. Andrew Dancy, Dr. Cort McClaren and Mr. Peter Zlotnick. In 2015 Mr. Reid accepted the position as Director of Bands at Lanier Middle School in Sugar Hill, GA. Prior to his appointment at Lanier, Mr. Reid served as Graduate Assistant for the Georgia State University Bands and previously, Director of Bands at James Kenan High School in Warsaw, NC.

DR. DAVID THORNTONRoyal Northern College of MusicDr. David Thornton is regarded as one of the foremost euphonium players and teachers of his generation and has a global reputation. His work as a soloist, conductor and educator is renowned throughout the brass playing world to have a distinct hallmark of extreme virtuosity, professionalism and an ability to connect with audiences like few others in his fi eld.

His work within the brass band world has seen him at the top fl ight for almost twenty years. He has held solo euphonium positions with the Fairey Band (1997-2000), the Black Dyke Band (2000-2010) and the Brighouse & Rastrick Band (2011-2015) having won fi ve National titles, three British Opens and one European Championship during this time. David is currently the solo euphonium player with the world famous Foden’s Band.

As a recording artist David has released four solo albums. His debut CD, Three Worlds, was awarded Solo CD of the Year for 2004 by the British Bandsman magazine. David released his second solo album, Devil’s Duel in May 2007, Sempre Libera in January 2014 and Parallel Realities in March 2015. Furthermore, David features as a soloist on 30 diff erent albums of band music, including Epic Brass and Jubilee Brass - live recordings of two concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. He tutors at the RNCM, the University of Huddersfi eld, University of Salford and Chetham’s School of Music. David is also a fully certifi ed member of ABBA.

DR. AARON TINDALLUniversity of Miami Frost School of MusicDr. Aaron Tindall is assistant professor of tuba and euphonium at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. With his solo playing described as being “remarkable for both its solid power and its delicacy” and his orchestral playing praised as “a rock-solid foundation”, Aaron is an active performer. He has served as the acting principal tubist of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, and has held the principal tuba position with the Aspen Festival Orchestra where he was an orchestral fellow.

He has recorded two successful solo albums that were released to great critical acclaim. Songs of Ascent, and the

award winning album This is My House… He can also be heard on other recordings such as Simply Velvet, and the Eufonix quartet albums End Game, Brink, and Nuclear Breakfast.

He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Tuba Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Master’s of Music degree in Euphonium Performance with Distinction from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, UK, and a Bachelor of Music Performance degree on both the Euphonium and Tuba from The Pennsylvania State University. He has additional studies at Indiana University. His principal teachers have included Velvet Brown, Mel Culbertson, Warren Deck, Mike Dunn, Steven Mead, and Daniel Perantoni. He has also studied with Roger Bobo, and Dr. Benjamin Pierce.

BRIAN C. WILSONSalt River Brass BandAdams Euphonium artist Brian C. Wilson is an active and highly sought-after clinician and euphonium soloist. Mr. Wilson currently performs as Solo Euphonium in the southwestern-based Salt River Brass, conducted by Patrick Sheridan. Featured as a soloist by Miraphone and Yamaha, Mr. Wilson has also served as principal euphonium in the Arizona Wind Symphony, toured as a soloist throughout Europe with the Arizona Ambassadors of Music, and has performed and recorded with Summit Brass.

Mr. Wilson earned both his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Performance from the Arizona State University, having studied trombone and euphonium with Gail Eugene Wilson, Daniel Perantoni, Sam Pilafi an, Patrick Sheridan, and Deanna Swoboda. Mr. Wilson also served as graduate assistant at Arizona State University in trombone, euphonium and tuba.

As a clinician, he has given master classes to schools and institutions throughout the Southwest. Brian lives in Chandler, Arizona with his wife Joanna and Daughter Natalie.
