    Marketing & Publicity Intern  Next Wave Festival 2016

    Next Wave is looking for an enthusiastic and well-organised Marketing & Publicity Intern to assist thePublicist with planning and delivery of media campaigns for the 2016 Next Wave Festival. This is anexcellent opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the production of a major biennial arts festival acrossfields of marketing, publicity and digital media. 

    Position title  Marketing & Publicity Intern

    Duration  1-2 days per week from Monday 18 April to Friday 17 June 2016, increasing as neededduring the Festival (5–22 May). Hours will be negotiated based on availability.

    Please note: this is a voluntary position. Next Wave internships can assist with therequirements of formal academic study, provide valuable industry skills for people lookingto begin a career in the arts, expand professional networks and gain an on-the-groundunderstanding of the operations of a major arts festival.

    Location Next Wave, Office 4, 5 Blackwood St North Melbourne

    The position

    The Marketing & Publicity Intern will make a positive and significant contribution to the success of the 2016Next Wave Festival. This role works alongside the Marketing Manager, Marketing Coordinator and Publicistto implement and track a number of marketing activities. The Marketing & Publicity Intern will assist in thecontent management of online activities through website maintenance and social media posts across

    platforms, as well as creating an archive of all media coverage of the Festival, assisting the Publicist withmedia requests as required, and generally support the Marketing Manager in the day-to-day administrationof Next Wave marketing activities. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic about contemporary art and

    culture in Australia, adept at writing and proofing copy, have good communications skills and have a highlevel of computer literacy.

    We see the position of Marketing & Publicity Intern as suitable for arts management or communicationsstudents interested in creative industries and artists looking to broaden their professional practice skills andimmerse themselves in a festival context. A willingness to learn, a cheerful nature and the ability to workwell within a team are essential.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Marketing & Publi city InternReporting to the Marketing Manager

    Key working relationships

    −  Next Wave staff

    −  Next Wave Publicist

    −  Media contacts and Next Wave artists, as required

    Key Selection Criteria

    −  Good communication skills and excellent attention to detail

    −  Administration experience in the Arts or another industry

    −  Demonstrated project management skills and ability to multi-task and work to deadlines

    −  Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs (Wordpress and Adobe Photoshop a plus)

    −  Experience with social media platforms Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

    −  Tertiary study completed or underway in Media and Communications or Arts Management relatedsubject

    −  Demonstrated interest in and passion for contemporary art and youth culture

    −  Generate and maintain content across Next Wave’s website and social media platforms

    −  Monitor conversation around Next Wave on social media channels

    −  Create and maintain physical and electronic archives of 2016 Festival coverage

    −  Liaise with Publicist, Next Wave artists and staff for publicity material and support as required

    −  Update and maintain the Next Wave database as required

    −  Assist in the day-to-day administration of Next Wave marketing activities
