• Login to “MyJCCC” (upper right corner)
• Enter child’s username and password
• Click green “Add/Drop Classes button”
• Choose “Continuing Ed Classes 2016,” click on “Submit”
• Enter 5 digit class numbers (found in youth catalog)
• Click on “Submit Changes”
• Scroll down to view classes
• Go to “My Finances” tab (bottom right)
• Click on “Make a Payment”
• Click on “Make a Payment” a second time
• Select pay by term (Continuing Ed 2016)
• Click on “Continue”
• Select payment method

Make Your First 2-D Video Game Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind class that shows you the keys to designing your first 2-D platformer game. Conceptualization, play experience, challenge levels, graphics, sounds and simple coding are just some of the concepts that you will explore. No prior experience necessary, just a desire to have fun. Student-created games will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers.

Minecraft ModdersUse your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mod. Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a website to share with friends and family. Ultimate Paper Model Projects and Creations Students will examine, study and create models using paper, glue, scissors, colored pencils and markers. Afternoon OfferingsAdvanced Castle Building Cross the drawbridge and travel back in time to study, design and build medieval castles You’ll view video clips from History, Learning and Discovery channel shows that feature castles and the rules of engagement for Middle Age warfare. Examine working catapults and build paper castles. And if that’s not enough, you will create your own unique castle using advanced LEGO® and Mega Bloks castle building sets. Class will conclude with the study and viewing of the myth, LadyHawke. It’s best to do research before class starts such as checking out library books regarding Middle Age castles and printing pictures and articles from the Internet. So, what are you waiting for?

Adventures in Ancient Egypt This course is inspired by Rick Riordan’s The Kane Chronicles trilogy that updates Egyptian mythology for modern audiences. Expand on the people, places, history, culture and religion that the author highlights in his books through the use of slideshows and supplementary materials. Hands-on crafts will echo the adventure of Carter and Sadie as they battle the forces of Seth. Students are encouraged to read The Kane Chronicles Trilogy.

Deciphering Egyptian HieroglyphsThe instructor, a professional Egyptologist, incorporates interactive and innovative approaches to learning this ancient language. Along with language instruction, supplemental topics in history, culture, art and religion will be incorporated into this course. By the end, students will be able to read simple words and phrases, understand the imagery on Egyptian art and artifacts, and gain experience studying a non-Western foreign language.

Emergency Contact InformationAll participants under the age of 18 in the Summer Youth Enrichment Program must have an Emergency Notification Form (ENF) on file in the Continuing Education office no fewer than five days before the first class in which they are enrolled. Complete the form online by clicking on the link provided in your course registration confirmation email or, if you prefer to print and sign an ENF, please go to www.jccc.edu/youth. Instructions to submit a printed copy are located at the top of the form. Forms must be completed (only once) yearly.
Refund PolicyA refund will be honored if the cancellation request is received in the JCCC Continuing Education Registration office four business days before the class begins by calling 913-469-2323. The full refund policy is available on our website.
Student ConductOur policy requires that disruptive students be removed from class. If necessary, we will call parents for early pick up. Tuition refunds are not granted to students who are permanently removed from class.

Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures For the safety of your child, all students 12 and under will need a parent/guardian to come in to drop off and pick up their child to and from the JCCC classroom he/she will be attending. There will be a sign-in, sign-out log you will complete. Call the student enrichment program at 913-469-4420 if you have any questions or concerns. Your child must be picked up promptly after class.
1. It is recommended that you arrive 10 minutes before your child’s class begins.
2. For course location, please visit www.jccc.edu/maps.
3. Look for staff to direct you to your child’s classroom where you will sign in your child.
4. Follow the same procedures for the sign-out process.
Lunch and snacksIf your child is enrolled in a morning and afternoon class, please enroll him/her in the supervised lunch, regardless of age.
Students enrolled in supervised lunch and full-day classes must bring a sack lunch and a drink.
No students enrolled in our programs are allowed to be unsupervised on campus at any time.
Campus Dining Services are not available to summer youth participants.
Healthy snacks and water bottle (labeled with student’s name) are encouraged. Vending machines are off limits due to risk of losing money and unhealthy choices. Please do not send any snack or product containing nuts.

Heartland Chamber Music Festival and AuditionThe summer festival is an exciting nine days of chamber music, orchestra, master classes, music history, student, faculty performances and more! Each summer advanced string and piano students, ages 12 to 24, are selected by audition to work one-on-one with internationally renowned faculty members who have gathered for the festival with the purpose of inspiring and nurturing students development. The joy of their experience has proven to enlighten students’ interest in music and the arts, and the friendships they make during the process sometimes last a lifetime!
