Is there a production of the 1964 50 year reunion in process? I had to miss but would love to see it when available…Dan Levine

Viewing the video, there were many names I recalled and several folks I would have like to have chatted with. I was one of the ‘nerds’ and became a chemical engineer and then went into product safety. Made it to Allied Signal’s Director of Product Safety and Integrity but left just before they merged with Honeywell. Still working as a consultant….(Still get together with a few good friends from HHS class of 64 every few years… Although we’ve lost two of the gang.. who show up in the memorial video.)Dan

Bob...it's great to be alive and well and living in the Bay Area! Happy New Year to all!...Martin Brandfon 1967… attached: Sr. trip to DC & current photo)

Martin...Thanks for the photos. I loved San Francisco. Used to eat at a place called Original Joe's...the best Italian food I ever had...better even than my own. There was a place called Fennoccios that featured female impersonators...a fun place to visit. I lived in Sonoma Valley and had access to all the wineries and their tasting facilities. This was 1966-1969. I was navy and stationed at Skaggs Island. Good memories. Thanks...bob Original Joe's is still there! Finoccio's closed several years ago...Still a great place to visit! I may be moving there soon...Martin

Bob... I saw your video of Hicksville “Then and Now” and I had to show my two neighbors, who grew up here. In your video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jacJ_v0ceuU at 9:35 to 9:45 the picture of the new firehouse, my neighbors pointed out that the Chief, first from left, was their father, Mr. Steinhauer. Sorry I don’t have his first name. Would you know who has this picture so I can give them a copy? I thank you and both of my neighbors thank you for a great trip down memory lane! Bill Hilton P.S. While watching another one your videos, I saw John O’Donnell from Liberty Plumbing, who I have met a few times. Bill I've attached some photos...hope that is the one. It did fit into the time frame you specified. I don't see the Steinhauer name in the listing below the photo! What do you know about Liberty Plumbing? John worked for me for years. We started out on West John Street in 1977, then to Burns Avenue and finally to Lauman Lane. When did you graduate??? buffalo bob casale Bob Thank you so much for the pictures. We bought a home on Birchwood Lane in 2010, and one of our neighbors, Gerard Mulholland introduced us to John & Tina. My wife grew up in Huntington. I grew up in Levittown and joined the military. I know little about Liberty, but have met John a couple of

Page 4: 2016 January Hixnews

times. If you speak with him, tell him Liz & Bill, the Mulholland’s neighbors. I’ve gone fishing with them, and many of Gerard’s parties on Birchwood Lane. Thanks, Bill Bob I spoke with my neighbors and they had found a Hicksville FD book “1893 to 1993” with a picture of their dad. I have attached a picture of the book’s cover and Mr. Steinhauer’s picture also.

Please ask your neighbor if they can find two ex fire chiefs in their book...Henry Anthony Gebhardt and Charles Frank Saurer. If you do find them, can you scan pictures for me. My brother in law Otto Gabrielsen was married to the former Kathy Saurer. Charlie was Kathy's father. Henry was Kathy's grandfather on the maternal side. I believe Henry was also dispatcher for the Hicksville department. Thanks bob Bob…I spoke with one of them this morning, and she recalled both names. I will take a look at the book this weekend. Call me over the weekend, and I’ll let you know what we find...Bill After speaking with my neighbors further, they both recall Gebhardt and Saurer as friends of the family. Their father was very active in HFD over the years, but unfortunately passed away in the early 50’s. Bill

…You did a great job but wanted to let you know that the current picture you show of me is not me. Also, you mention Laura Trauerts as not being able to attend the reunion but show a picture of her younger sister Diane. Laura passed away many years ago. ..Lynn Clock Bammann 1965 Lynn...whoops...You wouldn't believe the hassle trying to match names to faces. I had a list of those who attended from Elin and went to classmates and Facebook to try to make matches. I sent an appeal twice to the class to name names from the pictures I couldn't identify. Thought I had it right but obviously not right. Not sure how I identified your photo. Maybe it looked like you. Do you have a current photo??? I found Trauerts on Facebook but didn't see Laura as Diane...my bad though they did look alike...sisters!!! No one else has said anything about being wrong. Guess I'll wait and see who sets me straight. I did screw up on the In Memoriam but made it right and put up a new video on You Tube. Thanks for your input. love yah bob

Dear 1965 Classmates I went to the 1964 yearbook to find out who your class officers were in your junior year but there is no listing. Can someone advise me on who they were? Page 9: 2016 January Hixnews

A note back from Pat…Thanks bob. I was hoping to see pics or highlights of the reunion since I wasn't able to attend.

In reading the sad news of the death of Mr. Shanley, I am reminded of what a wonderful group of teachers those of us in HHS in the 1960's had. (As I'm sure HHS has provided in every other decade.) Teachers like Mr. Shanley, Mr. Munch, Mr. Jones, Mr. Ennis, and many others didn't just teach us the subject matter, but also about life and the importance of making good decisions. They opened our eyes to the world as it was then and as it could be. They taught us that team spirit and having fun working together were important to a successful and enjoyable life. I'll especially never forget the day Mr. Shanley skipped the lesson, played the song about "Little boxes on the hillside, Little boxes made of ticky tacky...", and engaged us in a discussion of our goals. Thank you, Mr. Shanley, and all the other HHS teachers!...Fred Pugarelli 1964 Hi Everybody Stardust, my doo wop group, is part of an event on Jan. 31 from 2-5:30 at Bobbique Restaurant in Patchogue. The event is titles 3 Decades of Rock & Roll and features Stardust (50’s), The 60’s Invasion Band, and Soundtrax (70’s), and includes dinner and a craft beer or soda for $35 per person (cash only). Thanks…Bob Masone 1962

Hey Bob...I just finished watching your memorial tribute to my class, 1967, and it saddened me, as I knew a few of them quite well. It also gladdened me as I recalled some wonderful memories. It also made me think about my former girlfriend, Barbara Chapin, class of '68. I've tried to find her online with no success. She seems to have no electronic footprint, which seems so odd in this day and age. I sent her sister Debbie, class of '66, an email through Classmates and she never opened it. This and your tribute made me wonder if she is deceased. Would it be possible to check you information and let me know if she passed?? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Merry Christmas.Be well...Paul Pugliani 1967

Hi Bob...Thank you for all the wonderful work you do, but I was wondering why you would do a memoriam just before the holidays. I would think that maybe after the new year or June (graduating time) or any other date would be better. This time of year it is better to think of happier times, especially because this is also a large suicidal time (some of these deaths were suicide). With all due respect, we need to show happier times, not sad ones. I hope you understand I am not saying your work is wrong, just the timing the timing is off. Have a great holiday season...Joyce Thorburn Jurgensen 1967 Hi Bob...Many thanks...so sad. I can't believe the number of classmates that have passed. You never know what tomorrow will bring. You have to cherish every day...Ron Kelly 1967

In The News 11 YR OLD WHO SHOT ILLEGALS thanks FOX NEWS for reporting it. A Shotgun Armed Preteen vs. Illegal Alien Home Invaders... Two illegal aliens, Raphael Resindez, 23, and Enrico Garza, 26, probably believed they would easily overpower home-alone 11-year-old Patricia Harrington after her father had left their two-story home. It seems the two crooks never learned two things: they were in Montana and Patricia had been a clay-shooting champion since she was nine. Patricia was in her upstairs room when the two men broke through the front door of the house. She quickly ran to her father's room and grabbed his 12-gauge Mossberg 500 shotgun. Resindez was the first to get up to the second floor only to be the first to catch a near point blank blast of buckshot from the 11-year-old's knee-crouch aim. He suffered fatal wounds to his abdomen and genitals. When Garza ran to the foot of the stairs, he took a blast to the left shoulder and staggered out into the street where he bled to death before medical help could arrive. It was found out later that Resindez was armed with a stolen 45-caliber handgun he took from another home invasion robbery. That victim, 50-year-old David 0'Burien, was not so lucky. He died from stab wounds to the chest. Ever wonder why good stuff never makes NBC, CBS, PBS, MSNBC, CNN, or ABC news........? An 11 year old girl, properly trained, defended her home, and herself......against two murderous, illegal immigrants.......and she wins. She is still alive. Now THAT is Gun Control!

Trivia

This is a quiz for people who know everything! I found out in a hurry that I didn't. These are not trick questions. They are straight questions with straight answers…Chris Polanski 1960 (Answers are at the bottom of the newsletter) 1. Name the one sport in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends. 2. What famous North American landmark is constantly moving backward? 3 Of all vegetables, only two can live to produce on their own for several growing seasons. All other vegetables must be replanted every year. What are the only two perennial vegetables? 4. What fruit has its seeds on the outside? 5. In many liquor stores, you can buy pear brandy, with a real pear inside the bottle. The pear is whole and ripe, and the bottle is genuine; it hasn't been cut in any way. How did the pear get inside the bottle? 6. Only three words in standard English begin with the letters 'dw' and they are all common words. Name two of them. 7. There are 14 punctuation marks in English grammar. Can you name at least half of them? 8. Name the only vegetable or fruit that is never sold frozen, canned, processed, cooked, or in any other form except fresh. 9. Name 6 or more things that you can wear on your feet beginning with the letter 'S.' 10. A 10 foot rope ladder hangs over the side of a boat with the bottom rung on the surface of the water. The rungs are one foot apart, and the tide goes up at the rate of 6 inches per hour. How long will it be until three rungs are covered? 11. Throw it off the highest building, and I'll not break. But put me in the ocean, and I will. What am I?

The Fly Over - Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri This video is remarkable. How they worked it out with Homeland Security, FAA and all the other government protectors is even more remarkable. These are radio-controlled MODEL airplanes. No small feat! As you know budget cuts have eliminated the military flyovers at large events. Well, there's a group of Radio Control guys in Kansas City who do some formation flying with their own planes and decided they'd volunteer to pick up the slack. They invited a couple of other groups to join them and before they knew it they had 48 guys with their homemade RC airplanes signing up to join in. If they had more time, they probably would have gotten an even larger group as people kept joining and a 49th was added near the event. One additional feature of the flyover was the use of pink smoke for cancer awareness. The folks from the Guinness Book were there and are expected to confirm it as the largest formation flight ever. And to top it off the crowd later set the record for the loudest gathering at a football stadium. Be sure your speakers are turned up. Best if watched on 'full screen'. https://www.youtube.com/embed/VImNBuJW3sQ?rel=0

Very nice video Bob as usual, but you left my sister out of it. She was in the class of '65 and died Dec 19th, 2006. I notified you in 2006 and again earlier this year when the class of '65 was planning their reunion, so we'll try again now. Her name is Mary Kathleen Hubner Patwell. Most of the kids in school called her Mary, but to close friends and family she was Kathy. She's always in our thoughts but especially so this month as we near the anniversary of her passing...Karen Hubner Jenkins 1962

This beautiful tribute has left me in tears. The time, effort and talent you have put into this is greatly appreciated. Best regards...Karen Malter Coles 1965

Hi "BUFFALO" Bob…You did a magnificent job.... on this PERIOD. It brought tears to my eyes, as even though I read the In Memoriam column each month, to see the names with the faces made me sad ...yet a beautiful tribute my friend. Happy Holidays 15' 2 U N' yours…Best Always…Mark Leon 1965
