Preconference workshop: BOSU® Complete Workout, $20, 2 AFAA, 0.2 ACE (Fitness Studio 2, Room 307) The BOSU® Complete Workout System will provide you with the formula to make the BOSU® Balance Trainer more effective in your club, your classes and with your clients. This course will take you through the BOSU® system, step by step, and provide you with workouts that you can start using right away. You will leave this course with knowledge of the science behind functional balance training, teaching skills to accommodate all levels of fitness, and new tools and ideas for designing endless BOSU® workouts that are effective and fun!

With this new, easy-to- follow system, you’ll be ready to teach a sensational circuit workout on Monday morning!

Preconference workshop: TriggerPoint Performance Therapy's Level 1 Foam Rolling, $150, 3.4 AFAA, 0.4 ACE, 0.4 NASM (Fitness Studio 2, Room 307) Self-myofascial release (SMR) has been shown to relieve muscle and joint pains and improve flexibility and range of motion. This 4-hour workshop teaches the fundamentals of myofascia, reviews the latest SMR research and then dives into the Trigger Point Performance SMR movement philosophy using the GRID foam roller. Participants walk away with practical knowledge and hands-on experience coaching and cueing movements that can be scaled to all-levels of general health and athletic clients for pre- and post-workout foam rolling.

Barbell clubs and strength development 9:40-10:30 AM, Fitness Studio 1, Room 303 Cory Bennett, University of West Florida Does your campus have a strong weightlifting presence in your fitness center? Is there potential to turn that presence into a community of those who have the like-minded goal of developing strength and becoming more efficient lifters? Personal trainers and avid exercisers will learn new methods of barbell lifting that are not commonly practiced in order to maximize their strength. In addition, two detailed 12-week programs for beginner and advanced lifters will be outlined and explained for the audience to try in their own routines.

Using both relationship-building skills and the power of progression can provide participants with an attainable goal and motivation to return week after week. The presentation will feature an abbreviated Butts n’ Guts class. What is good posture? 10:50-11:40 AM, Fitness Studio 2, Room 307 Atiya Brigman, University of South Alabama The goal of this presentation is to help the public identify good posture or when to identify when good posture is being compensated by muscular imbalances. Participants will pair up and evaluate each other to apply posture principles. Hard-Core cycling 10:50-11:40 AM, Cycle Studio, Room 318 Dani Dean and Thomas Loxley, Auburn University A strong core= a strong cyclist. Although a cyclist's legs provide the main source of power during the ride, the core muscles—abs and lower back—are the vital foundation from which all movement stems, including the pedal stroke. The bike itself and how it is designed will not build the core or build the six-pack you so desire. This class will cover supplementary core exercises to add to the end of your ride, proper bike setup for core stabilization, and how to use your core during sprints and climbs. In an effort to reverse this, new guidelines have been initiated to promote the well-being of health care professionals. This session will discuss a pilot study of the effects of yoga on medical students’ well-being and finish with a 30-minute vinyasa flow yoga class. Barefoot Blast 10:50-11:40 AM, Fitness Studio 2, Room 307 Lori Huber, University of South Alabama Barefoot Blast is a workout that encompasses cardiovascular exercise, strength training, body sculpting, Pilates, and yoga all in one. A variety of training tools, such as stability balls, light dumbbells, and yoga mats, will be used while exercising barefoot. Start with an invigorating low impact warm-up that will elevate the heart rate for optimal fat-burning potential while defining and toning a lean upper body. These aerobic movements will be incorporated with strength work and high rep low weight body shaping exercises. A flow of yoga combinations that stretch and lean out the muscles will be alternated with these various forms of exercise training. Making tactical personal: training beyond the traditional client 10:50-11:40 AM, Cycle Studio, Room 318 Stephanie Carillo, Florida Southern College Tactical athletes are not being adequately prepared for the level of strength and endurance required of them for their jobs. Firefighters, police officers, EMTs, military personnel, and are often trained for general fitness but not to the extent that they are equipped to handle the demands of their situations. These programs lack specific, transferrable value in the exercises and progressions which leads to greater risk for injury on the work force. This presentation aims to introduce some ways we can use our skills as personal trainers to find ways of loading and progressing tactical athletes so that they are performance ready for their duties. Closing the gender gap in group exercise classes 10:50-11:40 AM, Classroom, Room 209 Tyler Reese and John Davenport, University of Southern Mississippi College/university group fitness classes are often found to have more female participants than male participants. This presentation will be aimed at addressing this issue and creating an active discussion about underlying causes and potential methods for solutions. YoPiA Aqua Flex 10:50-11:40 AM, Indoor Pool Dolly Stocks, BFitLifestyles and Stokes Fitness Academy YoPiA Aqua Flex is a high-intensity interval aqua workout that incorporates cardio intervals with yoga and Pilates-inspired activities using flotation devices and drag equipment. Through the integration of all three modalities, a challenging workout is provided to improve cardio fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and promote healthy body composition. Cory Bennett, University of West Florida. Cory specializes in athletic skill development, speed and agility training, and strength enhancement. He has been a football coach, group fitness instructor, and sport performance coach. He has a desire to someday own and run a sports conditioning and strength development facility of his own.

Laura Bentley, Auburn University. Laura is a senior studying Spanish education. She has been teaching group fitness for five years and is certified by AFAA, Zumba, BOSU, and U-Jam. She is a master trainer for Auburn’s new instructor training with focuses in dance fitness and high intensity interval training.

Atiya Brigman, University of South Alabama. Atiya is a senior studying exercise science and is AFAA certified. She has personal trained clients and taught group fitness classes for campus recreation for 1.5 years.

Stephanie Carrillo, Florida Southern College. Stephanie has a passion for kinesiology and wishes to continue studying more of the biomechanical aspects of it. She is CardioPump Kettlebell and AASDN Nutritionist certified. She has studied the training of tactical athletes as part of a research project.
