CHICAGO FIRE The Chicago Fire return to action after seeing their undefeated run put to an end after four games last time out, in a 2-1 defeat by the Montréal Impact on April 16 at Toyota Park. The Fire are in a tie for eighth place in the Eastern Conference with 6 points from 6 games. LAST MATCH

The Fire took the lead in the 29th minute from a spectacular strike by Kennedy Igboananike, curling the ball high inside the far post from the left corner of the penalty area.

But second-half substitute Didier Drogba canceled that with his first goal of the season for the Impact, slipping home a backheel from the center of the area.

Then the Impact hit for the winner as the match turned into stoppage time, Ignacio Piatti breaking the home fans' hearts when he mimicked Igboananike's goal with a wonder strike of his own from just outside the box on the left.

Fire manager Veljko Paunovic made one change to the team that reached a scoreless result with New York City FC at Yankee Stadium. John Goossens came into the team, replacing Matt Polster.

CHICAGO FIRE (4-4-1-1): Matt Lampson - Rodrigo Ramos, Jonathan Campbell, Johan Kappelhof, Michael Harrington - Arturo Alvarez (Matt Polster 46), Michael Stephens, Razvan Cocis (Nick LaBrocca 78), Kennedy Igboananike - John Goossens (Alex Morrell 58) - Gilberto.

TEAM NEWS The Fire saw their four-game undefeated run come to an end, after a victory and three draws, losing for the first

time since the 4-3 season-opening loss to New York City FC. “It was difficult for us to see that after the lead and playing good in the first half, to see us give up this game but

there's a long way to go. We have to learn from these games, we have to learn how to play when we have a

lead and when we have to also take advantage of opportunities we create and we have to be more mature,” said Fire head coach Veljko Paunovic. “But that's part of the process and part of the game.”

The Impact’s opening goal in the 56th minute was the first conceded by the Fire since March 11, after three consecutive shutouts – ending the club’s defensive shutout streak at 412 minutes, a club record.

“What concerns me the most is that we weren’t mature in this game,” Paunovic said. “When [Didier] Drogba came into the game we were impressed by him and that’s something that I am not happy about. He is one of the best players in the world, a great guy and everything. But our team has to understand that we have to respect ourselves as we are respecting our opponents; and I don’t think we were on that page. I don’t think we were good, but that’s something that we have to learn.”

Kennedy Igboananike scored his third goal of the season, his second in the last three games. He has scored the last two goals the Fire have scored, over their last four games, with three of the Fire’s six total goals this season.

“It's one of the areas we have to improve. We have to improve. We are emphasizing every time in our sessions and in our meetings that we have to finish actions, we have to score goals, we have to take shots. All these kinds of things in practice. It's these kind of things we have to improve,” said Paunovic.

John Goossens made his first start since March 19, coming into the underneath striker role and playing 58 minutes. Goossens had come off the substitutes’ bench each of the last two matches.

Matt Polster came off the substitutes’ bench for the first time this season after starting each of the opening five games, replacing Arturo Alvarez at the halftime break.

“Arturo did well. He gave his best in the first half. In the second half we needed to keep more possession. We needed a guy like Matt Polster who can hold the position in the midfield but he's also more creative, which was important for us to put him in the game,” said Paunovic. “I think in the end it was a game where we have to improve and understand and learn how to play these types of games and how have to finish these types of games.”

D.C. UNITED D.C. United won their second match in their last three outings, cruising to a 3-0 win against the New England Revolution on Saturday afternoon at RFK Stadium. United are in a tie for fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 9 points from 8 games. LAST MATCH

United took the lead when Marcelo Sarvas was taken down on the edge of the area, and Lamar Neagle confidently stroked home the resulting penalty in the 33rd minute.

United sealed the game with a pair of goals in the final four minutes. First came an an audacious, 25-yard chip from second-half substitute Luciano Acosta from just outside the area in the 86th minute to double the lead, then Alvaro Saborio capitalized on a mishit backpass before slotting home for the United third.

United head coach Ben Olsen made no change to his team for a second successive week, maintaining the group that fell 1-0 to Toronto FC at RFK Stadium

D.C. UNITED (4-4-2): Travis Worra - Sean Franklin, Steve Birnbaum, Bobby Boswell, Taylor Kemp - Patrick Nyarko (Rob Vincent 81), Nick DeLeon, Marcelo Sarvas, Lamar Neagle - Chris Rolfe (Luciano Acosta 71), Fabian Espindola (Alvaro Saborio 44).

TEAM NEWS United won for a second time in three matches, both coming at RFK Stadium, after opening the season with a

five-game winless run. United have scored seven goals over the last three games – a four-goal game and a three-goal game wrapped

around an attacking shutout. United scored three goals total over their first five matches. Luciano Acosta scored his first MLS goal on a sublime effort late in the match. The goal was assisted by Alvaro

Saborío; the pair have combined on four of United’s last five goals, with Acosta assisting on two of Saborío’s three goals in that span.

“That’s what [Luciano] does,” said United assistant coach Chad Ashton. “That’s why he’s here. He’s got a lot of magic in him. I still think he’s got to pick and choose the right times to do it, but you’ve seen already in the little glimpses that he’s played that he can pull off the big-time play and it was very timely for us. We’ve seen him in practice, obviously. He’s super cheeky and tough to defend, so we knew something special was going to come at some point and obviously this was the night. He’s a great player, so none of us were really surprised when he did that.”

Acosta came off the substitutes’ bench for a fifth consecutive match, after starting the opening three games of the season, playing the final 19 minutes.

“We’ve got to pick and choose our times when we get him in there right now, and have a good balance in terms of who we’re putting on the field. And we feel like that will sort itself out. His playing time will come, and he’ll earn that. But it’s tough for any player to walk into this league,” said Ashton.

MLS GAME INFORMATION

There is an injury concern for United after Fabian Espindola was forced off with a hamstring injury just before the halftime break.

Saborio scored his third goal of the season to seal the match; he has scored three of United’s last five goals, after netting twice in the 4-0 win vs. Vancouver.

“I think it suits [Acosta] better to have a typical No. 9. Fabi, obviously, floats out to the wings, and [Acosta] is a guy who is going to find seams, and – much like you saw in the Vancouver game – he comes underneath and can spring someone with a great pass. Obviously tonight he showed he can score goals, too. It’s probably better for him when you have a classic No. 9 who plays in between the two center backs on the field."

Lamar Neagle scored his second goal of the season, his first since scoring the club’s initial goal of the season after just five minutes in the season-opening defeat at the LA Galaxy.

Travis Worra was called upon to make three saves in recording the shutout, his third clean sheet in seven starts since taking over the goalkeeping job in the second game of the season.
