Thank you for attending the eleventh annual Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade. We are overjoyed to be celebrating our eleventh anniversary. Like many great accomplishments it is said that the idea for the parade was conceived at a pub, where a meeting of the minds and $100.00 dollars in the bank was the start of what you see today.

We are very proud and grateful to those pioneers whose dreams and hard work have caused us to land where we are. Today the parade committee is made up of hard working volunteers from various backgrounds within our com-munity. Without their constant and continued hard work the parade would not be possible. At this time we would like to take a moment and remember our volunteers, including those who have passed and those who have moved on to other worthy causes. Thank you very much for all you have done and all that you do!

The next big thank you goes to our corporate sponsors and advertisers. Without their support we could not make this day possible. Please make it a point to patronize the businesses listed in this book. They have been a constant and imperative source of support. We would like to extend a special thank you to the Town of Yarmouth’s Tourism Preservation Fund for supporting our effort to bring thousands of people to the Mid-Cape area to help celebrate St. Patrick and the coming of spring. They have entrusted us with funds which go towards promoting this event, putting heads in the beds and people in front of plates. If you are interested in helping support the parade, please encour-age other families and businesses to lend their support to the great weekend long celebration.

This year we are proud to honor Ted Quirk, owner of Silver Cloud Towing, as this years Parade Mayor. Ted was born and raised on Cape Cod and has been in business for forty years. Silver Cloud, as well as being a AAA certified tow company, has provided assistance to local police and fire departments from Yarmouth to Provincetown. Ted has been involved with the St. Patrick’s Parade since the beginning. Year after year he donates time and trucks in sup-port. And all proceeds collected by Silver Cloud on parade day are donated to support Cerebral Palsy. Ted supports countless other charities including The McCauley Nazareth Boys Home, Touch A Truck, Homeless for the Holidays, The YPD 5K, and donating trucks to most, if not all, local parades. We are truly proud to have Ted Quirk as out Mayor. Ted will lead us down Route 28 as we come together to celebrate St. Patrick and the coming of spring here on Cape Cod.

Please help spread the word of our great parade. Help us by using social media, family gatherings and any social event to invite more friends and family to come join the celebration. Your help and support of this parade will en-able us to continue to grow and bring more fun and excitement to Cape Cod. Thomas Francis Meagher Award

State RepresentativeTimothy Whelan

State Representative Tim Whelan represents the 1st Barnstable District, covering all or parts of the Towns of Barnstable, Yarmouth, Dennis, and Brewster. Born and raised in an Irish-American family in the City of Worcester, he began his career in law enforcement working as a Corrections Officer in the Worcester County Sheriff’s Department. He later joined the Massachusetts State Police where he served 21 years, retiring as a Sergeant from the South Yarmouth barracks. Representative Whelan was sworn in as a member of the 189th General Court of the Massachusetts legislature in January 2015. He is also a proud Veteran of our armed forces having served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Married to his high-school sweetheart, Lisa Whelan, for over 25 years they are the proud parents of two adult daughters, Maggie and Katie. Tim and Lisa are very proud of their Irish heritage and some of their fondest memories involve their many family trips to Ireland, as well as the years Maggie and Katie danced competitively for the McInerney School of Irish Dance.

The Proclamation of the Republic (Irish: Forógra na Poblachta),also known as the 1916 Proclamation or Easter Proclamation,was a document issued by the Irish Volunteers and Irish CitizenArmy during the Easter Rising in Irleand, which began on 24 April1916. In it, the Military Council of the Irish RepublicanBrotherhood, styling itself the “Provisional Government of the IrishRepublic”, proclaimed Ireland’s independence from the UnitedKingdom. The reading of the proclamation by Patrick Pearse outsidethe General Post O�ce (GPO) on Sackville Street (now calledO’Connell Street), Dublin’s main thoroughfare, marked thebeginning of the Rising. The proclamation was modelled on a similar indepedence proclamation issued during the 1803rebellion by Robert Emmet.

The Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade Committee is pleased to have

“Ryan Delaire”as the

11th Parade Grand Marshal

Ryan Delaire is an American football defensive end that currently plays for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Towson. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015.

Delaire attended Windsor High School in Windsor, CT where he was a standout athlete for several War-riors teams. He won a total of five letters in football and basketball. Off of the field, Delaire was a success as well; he was a multi-time scholar athlete who earned high honors accolades. After graduating in 2010, Delaire chose to attend UMass to play football.

As a redshirt freshman, Delaire appeared in 10 out of a possible 11 games during the 2011 season. In those 10 games, he amassed 9 tackles, including 2 for losses, and 0.5 sacks.

During his sophomore season, Delaire appeared in 8 games. He recorded 19 tack-les, including 5 for losses, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble.

Prior to the 2013 season, Delaire trans-ferred to Towson University to play for Rob Ambrose’s Tigers. His move proved to be a beneficial move as he had his most suc-cessful season as a college athlete, both in terms of statistics and accolades. In 2013, Delaire was a crucial part of the national runner-up Towson team. He made 68 tackles and had 17.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, 3 pass break ups, 2 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries. Delaire’s efforts earned him a spot on the All-CAA first team and also earned him College Sports Madness third team All-American and Beyond Sports Network third team All-American honors.

Delaire was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted rookie on May 5, 2015.Delaire was signed as an undrafted rookie on May 5, 2015.On September 30, 2015, the Carolina Panthers signed Delaire off the Redskins’ practice squad. In his first

career game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he recorded 5 tackles and 2 sacks of Jameis Winston. In following game, during the Panthers 27-23 victory at the Seattle Seahawks, Delaire recorded 1 tackle and 5 quarterback pressures against Russell Wilson. During the Panthers week 11 victory over the Washington Redskins to move them to 10-0 for the first time in franchise history, Delaire recorded a half sack on quarter-back Kirk Cousins.

The Sons of Erin Cape Cod and Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade Committee award scholarships

to local female high school seniors of Irish descent. The Colleen winner (Queen) will

receive a $1,000 scholarship, and the three runners-up court

winners will each receive a $500 scholarship.

Catriona BarrCatriona is a senior attending Monomoy High School. A member of the National Honor Society and Student Council Catriona is also a perennial varsity soccer player. She has received many awards for both her academic and athletic achievements . Her outstanding leadership skills led her to Girlsʼ State, MIAA Sportsmanship conference and

as far away as Shanghai, China to attend the Global Student Lead-ers Summit. Catriona collage choices include Brown, Harvard and the University of Virginia. “Catie” would like to have an im-pact on the world and hopes to earn a PHD with a concentration on Global Health. She would love to travel to India someday. As quoted in her essay “ I feel blessed that my parents have made it a priority to take me to Ireland to understand where I come from.”

Saarah MurphySaarah is a senior at Barnstable High School. She has excelled academically as evidence by her honor roll status and her success in her AP and honors courses. Saarahʼs collage choices include Boston College, Boston University, Fordham and Babson. She would like to pursue a career as a broadcast journalist. As President of the Drama Club Saarah is considered to be a fine actor and has had many lead roles in the Barnstable High School productions Saarah is the Head Student Producer of the student run local tele-vision channel. Shaarah has always cherished her grandfatherʼs wisdom, “Never forget who you are and never forget where you came from” In her essay Saarah wrote “After I learned more about my familyʼs heritage I discovered a part that I never knew I had. I am Saarah Murphy, whose heart is with her family”.

Shannon MurphyShannon is a senior at Mashpee High School. She has demonstrated a commit-ment to academic excellence while partici-pating in extra curricular activities. Shannon is a member of the National Honor Society serving as secretary her senior year. She is a delegate for the State Student Council, Re-gional Student Council, member of the Stu-dent Government, AP scholar, delegate at the MIAA New England Student Leadership

Conference and a Peer Leader. Shannonʼs love of sports have led her to become the captain of the varsity soccer team as well as the indoor and outdoor track and field teams. She has assisted people with physical and mental disabilities in playing soccer. Shannon had dreams of traveling the world, especially Australia.

Orla CoughlinOrla is a senior at Dennis-Yarmouth High School. She is currently a member of theNational Art Society and the National Honor Society. Orla serves as captains of both the cross country and spring track teams. She is an active member of the Special Olympics Com-mittee, Student Council, German Student Ex-change, French Club, and Theater Club. This year she was awarded the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship and traveled to France on a school trip. Her endeavors have included volunteering for the Relay for Life, Dennis Beach Clean-up Day, Cranberry Harvest Festival and the Holly Young Memorial Volleyball tournament. Orla hopes to declare a pre-med major with a concentration focusing on psychiatry. Growing up with Irish parents Orla says that to her being Irish is not something she only celebrates on St. Patrickʼs Day, it is something sheembraces every living moment.

The Sons of Erin Cape Cod is a Social, Members-Only Club comprised of men and women of Irish heri-tage with a common interest in promoting Irish culture, heritage and pride. Promoting Irish culture consists of sponsoring Irish Dance Competition, and providing an Avenue for Irish music. The Club promotes Irish heritage by presenting Irish foods, arts, crafts, and literature at Annual Club functions. Pride in the Club involves being a good civic neighbor through its efforts in establishing scholarships for local youths, sponsoring local sports teams and businesses.

Marie has been chosen for the 2016 Cape Cod Saint Patrick’s Parade Senior Colleen. Marie has been a member of the Irish American Club since 2003, and has participated in many Irish acitivites.

Marie was born in Boston, the second of five children, 2 girls and 3 boys. Marie’s grandparents came to the United States from Counties Cork and Donegal in Ireland.

Marie and her future husband, John, graduated from Saint Ann

School in Dorchester, Massachusetts. They met in 1951, married in 1957 and had five children, ten grandchildren and six great grnadchildren. Along with raising her family, Marie has worked in the insurance field for many years.

Marie serves as a Eucharistic Minister and Sacristan at her church.

The Irish American Club of Cape Cod is very proud to have Marie McCormack chosen as this year’s Parade Senior Colleen.
