Some 1,600 athletes will participate in this event.

Various regulations will apply, as the event uses public roads.

Failure to observe the times indicated in the event schedule may result in being denied permission to compete.

As well, it is essential as a competitor to be familiar with the competition rules.

In order to compete safely and appropriately, make sure you understand the competition course and its regulations.

The event staff and volunteers are looking forward to welcoming you on the day.

● Confirm the competition course in the guide to participation in advance. As well, the number of laps for each

component is left to the athletes’ own responsibility. Athletes with not enough laps will be considered DNF.

● Competitors may not compete with the support or aid of third parties (other competitors, coaches, supporters, etc.).

Support may be received from event staff, etc. at official aid stations only.

● Supporters and non-competing athletes may not enter the competition course.

● Tattoos must be completely hidden under uniforms during competition. If tattoos are down to the wrist, competitors

must wear long sleeves throughout the swim, bike, and run. Individual tattoos must also be covered with taping,

etc.

● For athletes’ safety, headphones, earphones, and cameras may not be used during competition.

● Yamashita Pier may be entered only on the day of the race with permission for use as the competition

course. Do not enter outside the race.

Health

● On the day of the event, you may be asked to see a doctor according to your health check sheet, and depending

on the doctor’s judgment, you may then be required to refrain from competition.

● If you are uncertain about continued competition due to poor health, remember that retiring from competition is

also a courageous decision.

● In the triathlon, with its wide-ranging competition course including the swim, risks are always present. Always be

aware of the risks and make the appropriate judgments during competition.

● Keep your own pace and make sure you are well hydrated and taking in enough sodium.

* Water and sports drinks are available at the aid stations.

■ Swim: Swim gathering area and swim finish

■ Bike: Within Yamashita Pier, pit-stop style

■ Run: Four locations within the course [in front of the swim start area, in front of the Hikawa Maru, Yamashita

Pier, Zo-no-hana Park and after the finish]

Safety

● In emergencies, the competition may be cancelled even in the middle of events.

● Hazardous or obstructive actions are prohibited. Do not try to force your way ahead of other competitors, but judge

their course with priority and maintain a safe and smooth flow of competition.

Competition

Weather

● Depending on weather conditions, if the competition is changed, referees will explain the situation at the previous-

day race briefing or before the start of competition on the day itself.

● There may be sudden changes due to weather even after the start of competition, including cancellation.

★ Swim

Competitors will enter the water from the pontoons to a floating start, and start the race in waves according to the horn signals. * Competitors who are uneasy about floating may hold onto the pontoons. Each wave has its own color of bathing caps. The standard course is two laps of 750 m and the sprint course is one lap of 750, both clockwise. * Jumping in is prohibited during the laps. Use the slope to leave the water during the laps and at the finish.

● The swim competition must be finished within the time limit to continue to the next competition. (See “Swim cutoff” below.) ● Even within the swim time limit, competitors may be urged to stop or retire from competition if staff such as referees

or lifesavers have judged it dangerous or difficult for them to continue. In this case, always follow the directions given.

● In the standard category, if the time required for the first lap exceeds 22 minutes 30 seconds, it will be judged that completing the course within the time limit is difficult, and referees will urge competitors to retire [TOV status]. Immediately follow referees’ directions.

Events

Category Time limit

Swim time limit Standard (750 m x 2 laps) 45 min (1 lap: 22 min 30 sec) after start

Sprint (750 m x 1 lap) 25 min after start

[Safety measures for the swim] ● There will be many staff stationed at the swim course for the event, including lifesavers, divers, doctors, nurses,

EMTs, referees and others, observing the competitors from water and land. ● If you need rescue, signal by waving a hand above your head. A rescue boat or water bike will come to help you. ● During laps and swim finish, referees and other staff on the pontoons may speak to competitors to confirm health

status. ● If you feel unwell, do not force yourself, but have the courage to retire.

■ The cutoff will be applied strictly at time limits of 22 minutes 30 seconds for the standard first lap and 45 minutes for the second lap, and 25 minutes for the sprint. The standard first-lap cutoff will be when getting out of the water onto the pontoons, and the standard second-lap and sprint cut-offs will be on the pontoons by the pier; referees will require competitors to cease competition and will collect ankle bands. [TOV status will apply. ]

▶ Bikes

● This event includes rules prohibiting drafting. ● Except when passing, always keep left when riding bikes. ● The drafting zone is 3 m to the sides of the preceding biker’s front edge (1.5 m each to left and right) and 10 m to

the rear.

● To prevent danger, do not stop during the competition. If you are forced to stop, check behind you and move to the left to stop.

● If you drop something, continue competing as you were. It is hazardous to stop suddenly in order to pick something up, etc. (See P.27 regarding dropped objects)

● Penalized competitors may be asked to enter the penalty box during their run. ● Confirm the race numbers displayed in the penalty box and enter on your own recognizance before reaching the run

finish. (Referees will not give competitors directions) ● Competitors who reach the finish without entering the penalty box will be disqualified. Please take note.

● The aid station for the bike course is located within Yamashita Pier. You cannot receive water while biking. ● Stop (make a pit-stop) in the space in front of the aid station and fill your cycle bottle, or drink water there before

going on. * Commercially sold plastic water bottles may not be used.

● Bike lap checks will use the measurement chips attached to competitors’ ankles (ankle bands) before the start. ● The standard course is 6 laps and the sprint course 3 laps. ● We recommend mounting a cycle computer. * Remember to reset the cycle computer distance measurement before

the start.

● Because traffic restrictions will be lifted at 13:00, all bike competitions will be completed by 12:45. ● As the various erections on the road course must also be removed, competitors will not be able to begin new laps

from the Yamashita Pier branch point after 12:25.

● In an emergency, ambulances and other vehicles may enter the course. ● Bikes may be asked to stop or slow down to allow emergency vehicles to pass.

Emergency vehicles will confirm safety as they proceed; follow the nearest staff member’s directions and do not pass them.

▶ Run

Runners move on the left throughout the course. * The course (switchback point) is the same for both standard and sprint. (The number of laps is different)

Standard Transition --> Yamashita Pier switchback (1st time) --> Zo-no-hana Park switchback (1st time) --> Yamashita Pier switchback (2nd time) --> Zo-no-hana Park switchback (2nd time) --> Yamashita Pier switchback (3rd time) --> Finish

Sprint Transition --> Yamashita Pier switchback (1st time) --> Zo-no-hana Park switchback (1st time) --> Yamashita Pier switchback (2nd time) --> Finish

There are run showers at the Hikawa Maru aid station and the Yamashita Pier switchback point.

* Prohibitions Headphones, earphones, and cameras may not be mounted during competition, as they may prevent hearing directions from referees and staff and thus lead to accidents.

▶ Finish

Finishing in tandem or deliberately finishing at the same time will not be permitted (this applies to relay teams with regard to non-run competitors as well). Sunglasses and caps should be removed at the finish. After the race, measurement chips (ankle bands) will be collected. Help yourself to finishers towels, water, and sports drinks.
