Why A 5K For Labor Day?
Since 2000, Waukegan Township has raised funds for our programs to enable older adults to age well through our annual Walk for Seniors. In 2015, Walk for Seniors was renamed to the 5K For Labor Day to better reflect the nature and purpose of this multigenerational effort. The event has evolved toward a more athletic 5K focus and an upgraded venue: Independence Grove in Libertyville. Waukegan Township serves the 55 and better crowd over 36,000 times each year. Services include medical transportation, preventative health services, wellness programs, lifelong learning opportunities, recreational program, in addition to lawn and snow maintenance services. Area residents leverage our services to age in place and remain in their own homes. As our communities need for services exceeds available revenue, funds from the A 5K For Labor Day is critical to continuing services and keeping area older adults living independently.
Who participates in the A 5K For Labor Day?
A 5K For Labor Day draws participants from the entire life span. Participants reflect the diversity of the area we serve. We anticipate 400 – 800 participants.
