SIXTY FIVE YEARS OF ART ON FORT MYERS BEACH

The Fort Myers Beach Art Association was officially begun in 1951. Evalina Green was the first President. Meetings, art

shows and fund raising events were held in a chickee hut built by the members. The Art Association had two more temporary homes,

and then land was purchased on Donora Street in 1965. Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on February 22, 1968, and President

Mira Sackrison used her “golden spade” to symbolize the beginning of the first cultural center on the Beach. The skylights and storage

room were added in 1978.

In 1984, the building was further enhanced by providing a ramp and an altered restroom to make an art experience available to

people in walkers and wheelchairs. This project also provided a second gallery. Just recently a new remodeling project has spruced up

the building and the garden is in full bloom. The kitchen was updated in 2014.

Today the Fort Myers Beach Art Association is still a voluntary, non-profit organization specializing in the sharing and growth

of creativity.

PURPOSE

The Purpose of the Art Association shall be to further and provide education in the cultural aspects of life on Ft. Myers Beach

and its environs; to promote the study, practice and appreciation of art; to hold art exhibitions and programs which are open to the public;

and to encourage art instruction of children and junior artists.

GALLERY BIN DISPLAY

The bins in the gallery are an excellent way to show off and sell your work. The bins are available for viewing whenever the gallery

is open and in addition there will be times when the bins are taken to other venues to enhance our display booth and increasing the

opportunity to sell member’s work.

Six bins sit in the main gallery and are available for member use. Each piece should include the artist’s name and FMBAA number,

along with the price. Submit a list of the paintings displayed along with the prices, artist name, FMBAA number and phone number.

This list is to be placed in the desk book. The 20% commission will be taken from the price listed, but the sales tax will be added to

the price listed. Bins may be shared with another artist, but there is a limit of 12 paintings per bin. Artists using the bins will change

with each new show; the signup sheet can be found on the library wall.

Paintings should be properly matted and protected in a professional manner. . Acrylics and oils on canvas may be displayed provided

they are no greater than 1/8th inch thick (no wrapped canvas), suitably wrapped in plastic and no larger than 16 x 20 inches. The limit

for acrylics/oils is 6 paintings to a bin. During January, February, March you may not sign up for consecutive display periods. This

will give all members an opportunity to sell their work. In the summer season, items can be left in longer to maintain the supply of

work.

If you have questions about the display bins contact the chairperson, Connie Donfrancesco 267-7660
