2016-2017 Leander ISD AP Human Geography Summer Assignment
What am I doing? Labeling world outline maps with the features listed below in preparation for your world map test scheduled during the 1st six-weeks. Why am I doing this? Part of entering an AP class is an assumption of a certain level of background knowledge and skills. You will need a strong working mental map in order to be successful in this course. When are the maps due? The First Day of School! August 24(A)/25(B) How many maps should I submit? 10 What do I label on each map?
Map 1 – Map Basics Map 6 – Europe Map 2 – Land Features Map 7 – Sub-Saharan Africa
Map 3 – Water Features Map 8 – North Africa & the Middle East Map 4 – North America and the Caribbean Map 9 – E Asia, C Asia, S Asia, SE Asia, Oceania
Map 5 – South America Maps 10/11 – World Regions & World Regions Closer Look
When is the first map test? Tests will vary by teacher but there will be one test in the first six weeks and more through the year. It is essential that you build a mental map of the world and the placement of states (countries), cities and natural phenomena. How do I study? Studying for map tests takes time and preparation. The first step is to find each feature and label blank outline maps. Use the list below and quiz yourself by labeling blank maps and seeing how much you know. Listed below are links where you can test yourself online. Coloring the map is optional, but will (WILL!!!) help with memory.

The world regions are divided by influence, stemming traditionally from religion, but since the 20th century the influence has shifted to economic factors. Using the chart below, color each region as listed. Do not use the same color for any regions that touch each other. Each REGION must be a single color. Using a black map pencil, draw a circle around each of the following regions: Central America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Russian Federation.
