Trainings and Services Available:

• Training and Mini-Workshops – Offered throughout the year for all School Nutrition Program employees and administrators. Compliance, operations and hot topics are addressed in classes that provide both lecture and hands-on learning.

• Technical Assistance – Available at any time assistance is needed individually or in groups. Contracting Entities may request assistance for all School Nutrition Program compliance and non-compliance issues.

• Bi-Monthly Newsletters – Email newsletters keep School Nutrition Staff up-to-date on TDA and USDA happenings. Policy and program updates, upcoming deadlines, promotions, outreach and funding opportunities are communicated twice per month.

• Child Nutrition Program Review – An in-depth review of all aspects of The Child Nutrition Program, including: budget/financial, eligibility guidance, menu planning, purchasing/inventory, staffing/labor hours, and the new Smart Snacks Policy. A report of recommendations over each of the areas is provided.

Operations Summit: A 3½-day training series geared toward directors and employees wanting to enhance their compliance knowledge. The courses cover areas of compliance within the Child Nutrition Programs. Attendees may choose all courses or only those that apply to their specific functions within the entity.

Eligibility Guidance: Participants in this 2-day course will understand the principles used to determine a household’s eligibility status, and successfully apply that understanding to process all application types and ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of the CE’s eligibility determination and verification process. *This TDA compliance course has been TASN certified.

American Heart Association/Heartsaver CPR/AED/First Aid: Heartsaver courses are designed for lay responders and provide training on basic CPR, AED, & First Aid skills. Participants will receive an American Heart Association certification card for completion of the course.

The reality of being poor brings out a survival mentality in our students that we as educators may not understand. This workshop is intended to assist educators, administrators, and counselors to better understand our economically disadvantaged students and to improve our effectiveness in working with people from all socioeconomic backgrounds. This workshop is presented by someone who is a certified trainer for “A Framework for Understanding Poverty.”

Commodity Training 101: This class aims to teach NSLP participants the basic knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to participate in the USDA’s Food Distribution Program for Schools prior to the application and planning process that begins in January. This class will provide an overview of Regular USDA Foods, USDA Foods Processing, the Department of Defense (DoD) Fresh Program, and the DoD Farm to School Program. Topics addressed in this training include program purpose, use of USDA Foods, ways to utilize entitlement and procedures for requesting, ordering, receiving, handling and storing USDA Foods.

Understanding the Culture of Poverty: People in poverty face challenges virtually unknown to those in the middle class—challenges from both obvious and hidden sources. The reality of being poor brings out a survival mentality in our students that we as educators may not understand. This workshop is intended to assist educators, administrators, and counselors to better understand our economically disadvantaged students and to improve our effectiveness in working with people from all socioeconomic backgrounds.
