“I became an infertility specialist because I believe women deserve to clearly know all of their options. Potentially not being able to have children is an extremely difficult, emotional and overwhelming experience in a woman’s life. My role is to be her advocate. In the US, there are lots of fertility options, which are unfortunately not covered by insurance. I help women understand the cost and their chances so they can make informed, cost effective decisions.” “We work as a team and in this partnership, I hold the knowledge and expertise, but patients bring their own desires and framework of personal values, belief systems, and financial considerations to the table. My job is to inform, educate and collaborate with them to reach a solution that works for them. It’s a great feeling when couples are able to successfully become pregnant and achieve their dream of starting a family.” Dr. Hollins states, “Medicine truly is a relationship-based practice, from interacting with patients to forming a relationship with them. For both the physician and patient, it is a great learning experience. I’ve learned so much from my patients, how to be patient, to listen better, to respect people’s values, to overcome conflict and form a great relationship in the face of difficulty.” In her free time, Dr. Hollins enjoys multiple artistic pursuits. She consistently paints and draws every single day, and particularly enjoys painting abstract art. “While I do draw realistically as well, I love abstract art because I can get out of myself. I don’t have to think about it, and I don’t have to be confined by my mind and thoughts, and I really enjoy that.” Dr. Hollins is also an active blogger and writes on a wide variety of subjects. She is an avid reader of poetry and novels. To stay fit, she enjoys urban ballroom dancing (“It’s fun to move to the music!”) and swimming. She also frequently takes outdoor walks to enjoy nature and take photographs of her beautiful natural environment. “One of the things that attracted me to Click It Clinic is the fact that I will be able to have more of a global impact. In the hospital, I can focus on one particular patient. But if I pursue telemedicine, depending on licenses I can get to practice in more states, I can reach more patients and have a more global impact. I think particularly in fertility, a lot of people don’t get good, accessible information. I think I can provide people with that information, to give them a consultation of what might work and what might not work for them in their quest to have a family.” Dr. Hollins continues, “I also think the convenience of telemedicine is wonderful for patients. Sometimes it can be difficult to seek an appointment, wait to see the provider, navigate to the hospital, pay to park, check in, etc., it can be a hassle!” Dr. Hollins has previously practiced telemedicine. She participated in a telemedicine program from 2004 to 2007 in Savannah, Georgia to improve healthcare access for patients from rural areas. “Patients would have to travel one to two hours to see us, so we decided to provide telemedicine and it was very successful. I think patients particularly appreciate virtual visits when they don’t have access to nearby clinics or certain healthcare services in their community.”
