    The Premier Undergraduate Scholarships and Wesbrook Scholar designations are the Universitys most

    prestigious designations and are awarded to senior students with outstanding academics, leadership,

    involvement in student and community activities, and participation in sports (for some awards). These awards

    range from Wesbrook Scholar designations of $1,000 to renewable scholarships of up to $20,000 over two

    years.

    APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

    In order to qualify, Wesbrook Scholar and Premier Undergraduate Scholarship candidates must be nominated by an eligible nominating body. As such, this application requires sections to be completed by the candidate as well as the Faculty or School.

    1. This application is for students registered in a degree program at the Vancouver Campus.

    2. Please complete all parts of this application in black ink.

    3. The candidate must submit all sections of Part B: Candidate Documentation to their Faculty or School (not

    Department). The Faculty or School must complete the Ranking and Endorsement (Part A, Section 2), and

    determine if the candidate is in the top 10% of their year. Students must be endorsed by their Faculty or

    School and only those nominations will be forwarded to the Selection Committee.

    4. Completed packages must be received by Enrolment Services at the above address by 3:00 PM, Friday

    October 23rd, 2015.

    5. Incomplete, faxed or electronic applications will NOT be considered.

    6. Interviews of finalist candidates will take place in January 2016.

    7. Successful candidates will be notified by late January 2016.

    DEFINITION OF PREVIOUS FULL-TIME SESSION

    Premier Undergraduate Scholarships and Wesbrook Scholars designations are only available to students returning from a previous session where they were studying full time. These include students who:

    Were registered in a minimum of 27 percentage-graded credits during the winter session, September to April; OR

    Were registered in a reduced course load due to extenuating circumstances (documentation is required); OR

    Were registered in 13.5 percentage-graded credits of course work during one term of the winter session and one term on co-op or an education abroad program; OR

    Participated in an education abroad program or co-op for two terms during the winter session

    Note: UBC students who were studying abroad during the previous winter session must submit transcripts from the exchange institution with this application (photocopies are acceptable)

    CRITERIA

    WESBROOK SCHOLARS & PREMIER UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

    To be considered, candidates must:

    Have attended UBC for at least two full previous winter sessions (2013/14 and 2014/15) as a full-time student (see definition on page 1);

    Rank academically in the top 10% of their year and Faculty;

    Have entered the penultimate or final year of a baccalaureate program, or any year of J.D., M.D. or D.M.D. programs;

    Have demonstrated the ability to work with and lead others; as well as participating in student and community activities; and

    Be nominated by their Faculty or School. Premier Undergraduate Scholarship candidates are subject to the following additional criteria:

    Can also be in the first year of graduate studies in September 2015;

    Some awards require an interest or participation in sports.

    Note: Applications do not need to specify for which set of scholarships a student is being nominated. Enrolment

    Services will ensure that candidates are considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.

    ARE YOU A PREVIOUS RECIPIENT?

    Candidates who have previously received a Wesbrook Scholar designation and/or Premier Undergraduate

    scholarship are ineligible to receive the Wesbrook Scholar designation again but may be considered for a

    Premier Undergraduate Scholarship. When assessing eligibility, the Committee will primarily consider the

    candidates accomplishments and activities since receiving the Wesbrook Scholar designation and/or Premier

    Undergraduate scholarship.

    Please have an Associate Dean, Director of a School, or designate indicate the candidates rank and the

    number of students in their year of study during the 2014/15 winter session (e.g. rank of 4 out of 224 students

    in year 3 of Arts) and, by completing the section below, indicate the Faculty or Schools nomination of this

    student.

    The Faculty or School completing this section must ensure that the candidate provides the complete

    application and all relevant documentation. The Faculty or School should, after completing this section and

    confirming that the student is in the top 10% of students registered in a minimum of 27 percentage-graded

    credits in the previous session, forward the students application and all relevant documentation to Enrolment

    Services by the deadline date of October 23rd, 2015.

    3. PERSONAL STATEMENT - TELL US WHO YOU ARE

    Provide a personal statement, elaborating on the details provided in your statement of activities, about your general interests, activities and accomplishments to date, course of study at UBC, and present intentions as to your future endeavours. Focus on your accomplishments in the last 3 to 4 years. The statement should be written in the first person.

    Your personal statement must be no more than 500 words, be double-spaced, and have a minimum font size of 12 and margins of at least . Statements exceeding this length will result in rejection of the application.

    4. STATEMENT OF ACTIVITIES

    Your statement of activities should focus on your accomplishments over the last 3 to 4 years. Your statement of activities must be no more than one page, have a minimum font size of 12 and margins of least and be formatted as follows:

    o Personal Information (name, address) o Academic Achievements and Education (Details/ Awards / Dates for each) o University Activities (Details/ Dates for each) o Community & Volunteer Services (Details of Involvement/ Dates for each) o Athletics (team or individual) (Details/ Dates for each) o Other Activities (Details/ Dates for each)

    * Dates should include the month, year and if applicable, hours per week (e.g. Feb 2012 to Aug 2013; 3 hours per week)

    5. REFERENCE LETTERS

    Please include two confidential letters of recommendation as follows:

    o One letter must be from a UBC Faculty member o The other letter can be from a member of Faculty, staff, or the community, but cannot be from

    another UBC student.

    Reference letters are intended to support a candidates eligibility and should reference all related award criteria, such as the candidates demonstrated ability to serve, work with and lead others.

One of the categories is the Outstanding Future Alumnus Award. Outstanding Future Alumnus Awardthis award recognizes a UBC student who has demonstrated ambassador-like qualities on behalf of UBC and who has excelled in leadership, academic success, community or university service, athletic or artistic achievement or other areas worthy of recognition. These achievements can be made in the current year or over several years.
