What Not to Bring The following items are prohibited in our housing locations and may be confiscated if found in your room.
• Hot plates, toasters, toaster ovens, coffeemaker, or any cooking appliance other than what that comes in the room.
• Candles or incense • Halogen lights • Pets of any kind • Alcohol • Drugs, tobacco, including eCigarettes • Illegal substances of any nature
Please note that the possession of alcohol and tobacco in New York City is illegal for those under the age of 21. It is against Joffrey Ballet School policy to possess alcohol or tobacco in the rooms, even for those 21 or over. Joffrey Ballet School has a zero tolerance policy with regard to tobacco, alcohol and drugs: those under the age of 21 found using alcohol, tobacco or illegal substances of any kind will be dismissed from housing.
Housing and Room Assignments Housing Assignments Housing fees guarantee a bed in Joffrey housing; however, they do not guarantee a specific room or location. Joffrey Ballet School reserves the right to move students for a number of reasons, including, but not limited to, roommate conflicts, apartment renovations, maintenance, change of building lease agreements, etc.
Roommate Requests Students may request a particular roommate who is the same gender and will be residing in housing for the same time period. Should you request a particular roommate, we will make every effort to accommodate your request but we do NOT guarantee that you will be assigned to a room with your requested roommate.
Dismissal from Housing In the event that Joffrey Ballet School deems the dancer unfit for housing, Joffrey reserves the right to move students as we see appropriate and the right to expel any student license at its sole discretion. Behavior that could result in dismissal from housing includes, but is not limited to damaging the premises, having unauthorized persons in rooms, lending/giving keys to any person, consistent disregard for quiet hours/disrespecting those living around you, use of drugs or, and breaking the terms of the housing agreement. Students dismissed from housing due to any breach of dormitory rules or program conduct will receive no housing refund. Students dismissed from housing are also dismissed from the meal plan. Joffrey offers living accommodations without regard to race, age, color, or national origin.

Check-‐In Procedures Check-‐In will take place every Sunday between 12PM-‐4PM. Prior to your arrival, please complete the
eCheck-‐In and complete the Health Form. This paperwork can be located on our website: http://joffreyballetschool.com/nyc-‐ballet-‐intensive-‐housing.html
Upon entering the dormitory, please:
• Check-‐in at the JBS Desk • Submit your completed and signed Health Form • Complete the eCheck-‐In, if it was not done prior to arrival.
An RA will perform a room condition inspection and fill out a Room Condition Report to list any preexisting damage you may notice. If you find something after the RA inspects, please let them know as soon as possible. Failure to report damages within the first 24 hours of your move-‐in may result in damage fees during check out. Students are not permitted to paint, damage or make any changes to room walls, floors, bathroom or furniture. Do not place any nails, screws, hooks, or any unapproved adhesive substances in or on the wall. Students violating this policy will be required to pay for the room to be restored. Poster putty can be purchased at any local hardware store, which is the only approved adhesive. After moving in, dancers will be free to settle in and/or explore the surrounding area until 6:45PM, at which point there will be a mandatory dormitory meeting for all new students in basement lounge.
Check Out Procedures Students 12-‐13 years old: Prior to their departure, Chaperone students will pack their belongings and clean their room thoroughly. Their room is then inspected by their Chaperone. Students may not leave until the Chaperone approves and deems that the room is an acceptable level of cleanliness. Students who fail to meet this requirement will be charged a $150 improper checkout fee. Students 14 and older: Non-‐chaperone students will sign-‐up for a checkout time the week prior to their departure. This designates the time an RA will come to their room and perform a final room inspection, note any new damages, and sign paperwork. All students must be moved out of their rooms no later than 12PM on the Saturday after they finish classes. Failure to check out with an RA will result in a $150 improper checkout fee. Joffrey Ballet School and its staff are not liable for items that are left behind after your dancer leaves. When the RA/Chaperone inspects a room, they open several drawers and ask, “have you packed everything? Did you check every place twice?”

Residence Hall Overview 850 West End Avenue, New York NY 10025
The West End Avenue dormitory resides on the Upper West Side, a short ride on the express train from studio locations. Located between 101 and 102nd St, the dormitory was recently renovated in the summer of 2014. 850 West End holds primarily double occupancy rooms, with a kitchenette in each room. Laundry machines are available in the basement, and there is a large lounge area downstairs, as well. A cleaning service cleans the bathrooms prior to occupancy. Nearby Trains:
96th St:
W. 103rd St:
• Front Desk Staff Present 24/7 • Bed style: Twin XL, bunked • Each bedroom will be furnished with a bed(s), dresser(s), and kitchenette. • Dorm rooms are internet ready • Thermostat available in each room for temperature control (air conditioning included) • Cleaning service to clean bathrooms prior to occupancy. • Laundry available in the basement. • No toiletries or bathroom essentials are provided. All students will need to purchase
toilet paper, hand soap, garbage bags, etc. upon arriving.
7
Living at 850 West End Laundry: Two washers and two dryers are available for student and staff use in the basement. Due to the limited number of washers, students should be attentive while doing laundry and be prompt when switching their clothes to the dryer (and retrieving them). Since there is a lounge in the basement, we recommend all students do their laundry while hanging out in the lounge to avoid problems. Meal Plan: All students have the option to purchase a meal plan catered by “Cosi” which provides an array of options, including vegetarian choices. Cosi provides students with breakfast and dinner daily, which will be setup in the basement. Please note that lunch is NOT included in the meal plan. We recommend that students pack a healthy lunch and snacks to eat between meals. If students are dismissed from housing, they are also dismissed from the meal plan. Joffrey Staff: The Joffrey Ballet School aims to create and maintain a safe, supportive and healthy living environment for our students. A full time Head Resident Advisor lives in the building and works alongside the team of RAs and Chaperones, who also reside in the building. The live-‐in staff assists with escorting students around the city and helping them learn how to navigate the city. RA on Duty: The RA on duty facilitates daily operations and handles crises or emergencies should they arise. The RAs are on-‐call during daytime hours in addition to overnight shifts. There is always an RA on Duty, who may be reached via email at [email protected] or 646-‐554-‐8305. If you or your dancer ever has a question, you are welcome to call or text the on duty phone. Security: Front desk staff is present 24/7 after entering the building, and they monitor access to the dorms.
850 West End Building Policies Compliance with Joffrey Personnel Students are expected to fully comply with requests and directives given by Joffrey personnel, including instructors and all Residence Life staff. This includes requests for attendance at meetings, preferred behavior, and other community living etiquette that RAs require. Failure to comply with Joffrey personnel is considered a display of disobedience or disrespect and may result in referral to the Director of Residence Life for disciplinary action.
Consequences If a student breaks one of the rules noted in the listed Rules & Regulations, here is the policy: Strike 1 — First warning and phone call home. Strike 2 — Second warning, call home, and possible class suspension Strike 3 — Dismissal from housing. For strikes, the student will call home, in the presence of an RA or Chaperone. The Executive Director makes decisions for class suspension and dorm dismissals, though with input from The Director of Residence Life and the Head R.A./Head Chaperone.
8
Please note this strike system does not apply to violations of the alcohol, drugs, and smoking policy. All Joffrey Housing locations are alcohol, drug and tobacco free and any violation will result in immediate dismissal from housing. In addition, there will be a significant monetary fine charged to the student account. The Head R.A.s may suspend the strike system at any time at his/her discretion. Alternative consequences include, but are not limited to, early sign in, early room curfew, “work hours” (helping the RAs by hanging posters, making door decorations, etc.), and assistance with trash removal and/or cleaning rooms.
General Rules and Guidelines Access: Staff will enter any room as necessary for routine health and safety inspections, and in the case of an emergency. Staff will randomly inspect the student’s premise without advance notice to ensure the student’s adherence to the rules and regulations of the building. During non-‐emergency situations, staff will acknowledge their presence by knocking. Care and Cleanliness of Rooms: For health and safety reasons, students are responsible for the cleanliness of their rooms, as well as common areas. Charges will be assessed for noticeable damages. Students are expected to maintain an acceptable level of cleanliness for their bathrooms. Curfew: Curfew is the time at which all students must sign-‐in and remain in the building for the duration of the evening. By signing in for the night, students are promising to remain in the building until 6:30AM the following morning. Students who are ages 14-‐17 must sign-‐in each night by 9:00PM, but they may still socialize in the building until room curfew. Sign-‐in will be available beginning at 8PM each evening. Students who are 18 or older must sign-‐in by 11PM on weeknights (I.E. Sunday-‐Thursday), and 12:00AM on Friday and Saturday nights. Once a student is signed in for the night, they will not be allowed out of the building except in the case of an emergency (health emergency, building fire, etc). There are no extensions for curfew. However, a student may be signed out of the dormitory if they are with an authorized adult chaperone. The parent or guardian must send an email to [email protected] OR call the R.A. on duty (646-‐554-‐8305) at least 24 hours in advance. If a student is signed out with an authorized adult chaperone, they must return by midnight, or be signed out overnight. The adult must be over the age of 21 and cannot be another Joffrey student. Out of Dormitory Over Night: In the event that a student will be out of the dormitory overnight (or for the weekend), the parent or guardian must send an email to [email protected] OR call the RA on duty (646-‐554-‐8305) at least 24 hours in advance. The student must be with an authorized adult chaperone. This includes parents, guardians, relatives and family friends over the age of 21. This individual will arrive at the dormitory to pick up the student and drop them off. Lastly, the authorized chaperone cannot be another Joffrey student. Joffrey Ballet School is not responsible for the student once they sign out. Room Curfew: Room curfew is the time when students must be in their own room. Students who are ages 14-‐17 have a room curfew of 10PM Sunday-‐Thursday, and 11PM on Friday and Saturday nights.
9
Students who are 18 and older have a room curfew at midnight, both on weeknights and weekends (as not to disturb the younger residents who may be sleeping). Furniture: No furniture may be moved from one room to another, and no furniture may be removed from the building.
Hallway Etiquette: Rehearsing, running, and/or playing sports are not allowed in the hallway. Students are encouraged to stretch and practice in the studios before class begins. Food and drinks are not permitted in the hallways. Quiet Hours & Courtesy Hours: To accommodate a variety of sleeping schedules, quiet hours are in effect from 9PM to 7AM. This means voices should be kept at a low volume, headphones should be worn to listen to music, etc. Courtesy hours exist 24 hours a day. Volume from any individual room should not extend beyond the walls of that room. Room Visitation Policy: Joffrey students are only permitted to enter dorm rooms of other Joffrey students of the same gender. They may not visit any dorm room occupied by students of the opposite sex or of students in another summer program. They are free to socialize with students of any gender in the common areas. Rooftop Patio: One of the finer amenities at 850 West End is the beautiful view from the rooftop patio. This area will be monitored closely, and will have open hours throughout the summer. For safety concerns, students should only be on the roof if an RA is present. Students found on the roof without an RA present will face consequences to be determined by the Director of Residence Life. Signage: Affixing any signs, flags, or banners anywhere but inside the student rooms is prohibited. Students will receive a strike if signage in hanging in unapproved areas. Storage: There is no designated storage area other than the storage provided in student rooms. Please consider this when packing. Theft: Theft, willful destruction, or damage/misuse of any property owned by any member of the community is prohibited. Anyone in violation of this rule will be subject to consequences. Trash: There are trash rooms on every floor. Students are responsible to take out their own trash and put it in the appropriate room. Vandalism: Any student who vandalizes public property in or out of the residence will face consequences. Weapons Policy: Firearms, knives, and other dangerous weapons are prohibited in Joffrey housing. Any device that has the appearance and/or function of a serviceable weapon is prohibited in Residence Halls.
Substance Use/Abuse Policy Joffrey Ballet School reserves the right to conduct room searches if there is suspicion of substance use or abuse. The discovery of illegal drugs, alcohol, or tobacco, will be grounds for immediate dismissal from housing.
10
Tobacco: Purchase, possession, transfer or use of tobacco (all forms) is strictly prohibited. Smoking any substance is forbidden. This includes the use of electronic cigarettes or similar devices. Evidence of tobacco use or any smoked substances, associating with others while they are using tobacco, or having cigarette or smoke smells on clothing or in the residence hall room will result in a tobacco violation. State law in New York states that those under 21 are not able to purchase or possess tobacco, thus there is no legitimate place for students to smoke in or outside of the dormitory. Students will be dismissed from housing if any form of tobacco is found or if they are seen smoking. Alcohol: Purchase, possession, transfer, use or evidence of use of alcohol will result in immediate dismissal from housing, regardless of age. Possession of empty alcohol bottles and cans is not allowed and will be considered an Alcohol Violation. Smelling of alcohol or associating with others while they are using alcohol will also be considered an Alcohol Violation. New York state law states that for those under the age of 21, it is illegal to purchase or possess alcohol. Joffrey Ballet School has dry residence halls, even for those individuals 21 and over. Students who are 21 or over will also be subject to housing dismissal if they bring alcohol into the dormitory. If you are found in the possession of alcohol, the following will occur:
• The substance(s) will be confiscated by Joffrey Staff • The students responsible will be thoroughly questioned, resulting in a written incident
report/statement. • The students responsible will be fined $100 to their Joffrey account.
o If the student is not the Joffrey account holder, they must call the account holder in the presence of the R.A. to give a report of what has occurred and inform them of the $100 charge. After this phone call, the details from the incident report are available to the account holder.
o Students under the age of 18 must call their parents, regardless of whose name is on the account.
o After all information is collected, the Director of Residence Life, Director of Operations and the Artistic Director will also be informed of the incident.
o Any consequences related to programming (class suspension, production casting, etc.) will be determined by the Artistic Director; dismissal from housing will be determined by the Executive Director.
Illegal Drugs and substances: Purchase, possession, use, evidence of use, transfer or sale of drugs, or any drug related paraphernalia, including but not limited to anabolic steroids, marijuana (including medical marijuana), synthetic cannabis or other mood altering substances (such as K2, Spice, “herbal incense” or “herbal smoking blends”), cocaine, narcotics, LSD, amphetamines or other illegal, un-‐prescribed drugs or controlled substances will result in dismissal from housing. Associating with others while they are involved with illegal drugs or substances will also be cause for dismissal. Drugs and other intoxication-‐inducing substances, including synthetics, that are not listed will fall under the drug policy and be treated with the same disciplinary actions. Guest Policy Guests are expected to abide by all housing policies, procedures, regulations and standards. The host is responsible for the actions of his/her guests at all times. Any guest who violates any housing policies will be asked to leave the residence hall. All students and all guests are at all times subject to the laws of the State of New York.
11
Unauthorized guests are prohibited. Students are prohibited from having a family member or guest in his or her room while he/she is not there, and it is prohibited for the student to give room codes to any person not authorized. Students are responsible for his or her guest’s behavior & possessions while they are in the building. A student may have a maximum of two (2) guests at any time. Students must get clearance for all guests from the Head Resident Advisor no less than three (3) days prior to the guest’s arrival. Guests must show a valid ID and sign-‐in at the front desk. Written Permission and Notification of Guests Clearance Procedure:
• Parents must email the Head RA at least three days in advance prior to a guest’s arrival • Requests will be confirmed via phone call to the parent • Names of approved guests will be added to the list

It is the student’s responsibility to present themselves on time for the scheduled departure. If the student misses the escorted trip and wants an RA to escort them to the studios or back again then they must wait until an RA leaves for the studios or the dormitory on school business – a special trip will not be made for students who missed the escorted trip. If students do not show up for the scheduled departure the trip will be cancelled.
There are always escorted trips to and from class each Monday. If a student 14 years old (or older) would like an escort to/from class the rest of the week, they must sign up the evening before the escort is requested. A signup sheet will be posted in the dormitory. If students have signed up in advance, the RA will wait up to 5 minutes after the scheduled departure time. If students have not shown up five minutes after the scheduled departure time, the RA will cancel the trip.
Medical Instances If you feel sick or ill in any way, contact the RA on your floor. If they are unavailable, go to the front desk so that we may help you get to a doctor or address the situation. If you do not feel well but do not need immediate care, you may choose to stay home from class. This is your choice and is okay as long as you go to the RA on call or call/text the duty phone to let them know (646-‐554-‐8305). Please stay in your room and away from other students in case you are contagious. In case of a true medical emergency (seizures, cardiac episodes, asthma attack or instance where breathing is impaired, etc.), call 911 and alert an RA. The nearest hospital location to 850 West End is below:
West Side Medical Center 137 West 96th St., New York NY 10025 (212) 749-‐7400 Cure Urgent Care 2689 Broadway, New York NY 10025 (212) 832-‐2756 For medical non-‐emergencies, please speak with an RA and they will take you to a hospital if needed. If your parents would like to call their insurance company to find a provider in their insurance network, they are encouraged to do so.
Emergency Procedures FIRE: Students should learn the location of the pull stations in case of fire emergency. In case of fire, pull the fire alarm and leave the building by the closest exist. Students should assemble at the pre-‐designated area across the street from the dorm until the 850 personnel or HRA give instructions. The adult in charge will give the “all clear’ when the situation has been determined to be safe by the Fire Department. Once the Fire Department declares the scene to be safe, or an adult has checked the building completely, the adult will direct the students to return to the building. Because of the seriousness of this situation, orderly conduct is necessary.
15
Fire drills are conducted in residence halls during the summer, which is a state requirement. TORNADO/SEVERE WEATHER: In the event of a tornado, 850 personnel will make an announcement through the intercom. All students should take the stairs to the basement and take cover – staying clear of windows. The R.A.s and/or 850 personnel will give the all-‐clear signal when the area is safe. It is recommended that students have, within easy access, a bag packed with things they might need if they need to evacuate the building and remain outside the building. This bag could be a purse or backpack, equipped with things such as water, a granola bar, wallet, a sweatshirt, etc.
Public Transit and Navigating the City Public Transit is the primary method of transportation in New York City. As such, students living at all dormitories should be prepared to take the trains. RAs will teach students about the trains and how to navigate the city. After a few days, students are encouraged to travel with their friends if they feel comfortable. When taking the trains, students must always travel at least in pairs. General Information and Tips for Success:
• Always travel with a friend or fellow student, particularly in the evening. • Try to avoid subways at late hours, but if you must—try to get into the subway car with the
conductor (the middle car), or where the motorman is (the first car). • Only use NYC yellow cabs. Never use gypsy cabs (black town cars) or car services that stop and
offer to pick you up. • Do not carry too much money on you while traveling. Only bring with you what you think you
will spend. • If you have a smartphone, download Google Maps.
Taxi • Always use a yellow NYC cab -‐ never use black gypsy cabs/town cars.
o Exception: Pre-‐arranged airport trips through a car service, Groundlink, Uber, etc. • If the number on top is lit up, that means the cab is empty. If dimmed, the cab is occupied. • To hail a cab, stand on the street corner and raise one of your hands. • Always have cash handy for a cab. Most cabs have credit card readers, but they occasionally do
not work. • Minimum taxi fare is $2.50. Additional charges are $0.50 per 1/5 of a mile (at or above 6 mph)
or for 2 minutes of time stopped/traveling below 6 mph. • Tipping cab drivers is customary. 10-‐15% is sufficient.
Metrocards: Metrocards may be purchased inside any subway station at a token booth or an automated Metrocard machine. There is a $1 fee to purchase a new Metrocard, which you may refill. There are different options to fill your Metrocard, but the most common include the 7-‐day unlimited ($31) and the 30-‐day unlimited ($116.50). Please note that once you swipe your Metrocard, you cannot slide it again for 15 minutes (so you cannot swipe for yourself and a friend on the same card).
16
Train Etiquette • After you swipe your Metrocard and pass through the turnstile, don’t immediately stop. There
will be people behind you trying to catch their train. If you need to stop for a moment, make sure step to the side, or against a wall, so you’re not in the middle of the action.
• When the subway doors open, stand to the side to let people exit first—then get on. • When stepping on the train, make sure to keep walking as far into the train car as you can. If
you stop in the doorway, people behind you will push their way past you. • Don’t sing, shout, dance, or stretch on the train. • When traveling with an RA, please don’t wear headphones or be too involved on your cell
phone – it’s very important that you pay attention to the RA/Chaperone when they make announcements such as, “This is our stop!”
• When on the train, this is not the time to count all of the money in your wallet – be smart. Never put your bags or belongings on the floor of the subway station or train itself—they’re not clean areas.
Train Terminology Uptown v. Downtown Uptown trains are trains that are traveling roughly north. If you’re in the Financial District, you’ll take an Uptown Train to travel “up” to the dance studios. Downtown trains are trains that run roughly south. If you’re at a dance studio in the middle of Manhattan, you’ll take a downtown train to travel back to the Financial District. If a train is headed to another borough, it is described as borough-‐bound. In Manhattan, the Bronx is up, and Brooklyn is down; thus, Bronx bound trains are always heading uptown and Brooklyn bound trains are always heading downtown. See the diagram on the next page for a visual representation. Local v. Express Trains Express trains make limited stops to ensure a faster ride to your destination. However, due to their limited stops, they might not stop at the station you are hoping for. Local trains stop frequently to provide “local” service. They stop every few blocks, and thus take longer.
On the official New York City map, the express stops are indicated by a white circle or bar. All trains on that line stop at express stops (yes even the local trains). Local stops are indicated by a black circle or bar. If the stop you want has a black circle next to it, don't get on an express train unless you hear an announcement that says the train is making "all local stops".

Navigating Manhattan Manhattan is set up so that the streets run across town from east to west, and the avenues run north and south. The southernmost part of Manhattan, or Downtown, has named streets, but as you travel uptown and reach 1st street, navigation is simple from there. When you’re walking and aren’t sure which way to walk down the street, open the Google Maps app and look at the grey arrows – they denote the flow of traffic. Ask yourself: Do I want to walk the same direction of the cars, or not?

Activities Joffrey recognizes the importance of structured free time. To promote the enjoyment of New York City and keep students out of trouble in their free time, scheduled activities are offered five days a week. All activities will be chaperoned by an R.A. and are optional to students. We try to include free activities whenever possible. Sign-‐up: To sign-‐up for activities, speak to the R.A. on duty. They can sign you up electronically. Departing: Students should arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled departing time, so the R.A.’s may take attendance, give important instructions, and have a punctual departure. Students who arrive after the group has left may not be able to attend. Wait List: Spots for popular events can fill quickly. In the event an activity has no more openings, there may be a waitlist. If students decide at the last minute not to go, or are sick, students will be selected from the wait list to attend.
19
Paid Events: For events that require payment, an R.A. chaperone fee is included in the student cost. Refunds: If your student signed up for an event but can no longer attend, refunds will not be given unless a student from the waitlist takes their place. If you have any questions regarding Activities, please email Rachel Perry at [email protected].
Mail and Packages You will be given your room number when you check in. You may mail items to the dorm up to three days prior to your arrival, as there is very limited storage space at 850 West End. To receive mail, use the mailing address below based on where you reside: YOUR NAME JBS 850 West End Avenue, Room # New York, NY 10025
Airport Transportation For an additional fee, Joffrey provides transportation to and/or from the airport. We use a car service, Groundlink. We have used Groundlink for several years because of their reliability and extreme punctuality. Please note that Joffrey encourages students to take a taxi to the dorms. Our transportation service is significantly more expensive, so if your dancer is comfortable, we strongly recommend a taxi. Below is an outline of fees and reflect the price one way. The cost includes tolls and driver’s tip.
Transportation to JFK, LGA, EWR airports $150 Transportation for all International flights $200 Airport Escort Fee $150
In addition to the above fees, you could be subject to the following: Cancellation Fees In the event you provide incorrect flight information, and no prior notice is given, you will be held responsible for paying the cancellation fees. Cancellation fees vary in amount, based on how long the driver waits. Wait Time Fee When your dancer arrives into NYC, our car company tracks your flight. The car arrives when your flight lands. For domestic flights, the driver will wait, free of charge, for 30 minutes. After this grace period, wait time fees start accruing at $1/minute. For international flights, this time is extended to 60 minutes. If you exceed the grace period by more than ten minutes, you will be held accountable to pay the additional charges. Locating your Driver For arrivals, your driver will be waiting at baggage claim, holding a sign with your name. For departures, Groundlink sends a text message to your phone once they have arrived. The text message will contain a car number, and the driver will hold a sign with this number.

Reservation Confirmation Due to the high volume of transportation requests, our Transportation Coordinator usually reserves vehicles within one week of your student’s arrival/departure. You will receive a confirmation via email once the reservation has been made. Accounts will be charged the week after your student’s transportation service. *Please note Joffrey Ballet School can only provide a chaperone if your student is flying as an Unaccompanied Minor (and it is required by the airline). For further transportation inquiries, please email the Airport Transportation Coordinator at [email protected]. Please note our Transportation Coordinator works Tuesday-‐Sunday, from approximately 2PM – 12AM.
Housing Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Whom should I call if…? A: The RA duty phone. The RA with the duty phone (646-‐554-‐8305) will usually be able to address your needs. If, for whatever reason, the RA on duty does not know the answer to your question, they will consult with their supervisor and either return your call or have their supervisor return your call. When this occurs, our RAs do their best to provide an approximate timeline of when to expect a response. Q: Will my dancer be going to class alone? A: No. Those 12-‐13 years old will always be accompanied by their chaperone. Those 14 and older can sign up with an RA escort until they learn the route and become familiar to travel with a friend group. Q: What comes in the apartment? A: Beds, a mini fridge, two electric stove burners, dresser drawers for clothing. Each apartment has a bathroom for the students of that apartment to share. Please note there are no bathroom essentials provided; upon arrival, you will need to purchase toilet paper, garbage bags, etc.
Q: My dancer’s uniform hasn’t arrived yet and they fly to NYC tomorrow. Help! A: The uniform provider is a third party organization that is unaffiliated with Joffrey and thus we have no control over uniform delivery. However, no need to stress! Until your uniform materials arrive, your dancer may wear a black leotard and pink tights (for ballet), or black biker shorts/jazz pants with a solid black/dark color top (for jazz/contemporary). Q: Why isn’t lunch provided on the meal plan? A: Joffrey aims to maximize rehearsal time, and therefore, the scheduled lunch break is not long enough to return to the dorm to eat. We encourage students to pack a healthy lunch (and can provide directions to grocery stores within walking distance), or bring money to find food near the studio – there are plenty of food options that would be fast and affordable.
