The Electric Power Associations of Mississippi serves as the unified voice of allelectric cooperatives in Mississippi. While we do not generate or distribute power, werepresent the people who do, the 25 electric power associations and one generation-and-transmission electric power association. We function as a united service organi-zation for the mutual benefit of all electric power associations and their members.

The association’s staff is composed of skilled professionals who provide a widerange of specialized services to member-systems at a state level. The services aredesigned to assist local systems in serving their own members more effectively andeconomically.

Among the areas of the association’s expertise are: a government relations programthat monitors legislative action on the state and national levels; member relations;programs that emphasize youth involvement and leadership; safety and loss controlprograms; employee training programs; communications and public relations, including the publishing of Today in Mississippi (the largest circulated publication inthe state) which has a circulation of 465,000; employee credit union; coordination ofinsurance programs; and much more.

Our most important function is representing the more than 766,800 memberswho receive their electric service from an electric power association. In a cooperativemanner we are committed to ensuring that each member is provided quality electricservice at the least possible cost. It is with this commitment that we join forces witheach association in doing collectively what cannot be accomplished individually.

Mississippi’s electric power associations have and will continueto demonstrate their unwavering commitment to common goals

and help ensure a brighter future for electrification in Mississippi.

Je Electric Power Associations of Mississippi (statewide) has an impressivehistory of service to electric cooperatives in the state since 1943. The original pur-pose was to form a group large enough to comply with insurance requirements tosecure group insurance for the employees of the member associations. During thisearly organizational period, the group launched a statewide publication and estab-lished a safety program for member associations.

As the statewide association grew, it offered expanded services. By 1963, servicesincluded extensive work in the broad field of public, member and governmentrelations; and a credit union for employees of member associations.

Your statewide association exists solely to serve eMciently and eKectively. Ouremployees, some of whom have served you for decades, are deeply committed toyour satisfaction. We are proud to help support rural electriLcation in Mississippibecause we believe in the value of the program to Mississippians.

Every service we oKer is tailored to your system’s unique needs, from commu-nications to government relations to emergency power restoration. And we proud-ly serve as the voice of Mississippi’s electric power associations. We have a great

story to tell and I’m proud toshare it with others.

But the strongest voice—thefoundation of our organization—is our members. You convey thevoice and concerns of your grass-

roots members to us, and we listen. Working together, we develop a missionstatement and implement a plan to ensure the message will be delivered by a pow-erful voice.

Je respected, uniLed voice of all electric power associations will continue toresonate throughout Mississippi’s public and private sectors. And now, more thanever, people are listening!

We Are HomegrownWhat does “homegrown” mean to you? Fresh, ripe tomatoes? Soul-stirring gospel

music or deep-fried cat2sh?“Homegrown” describes any number of Mississippi traditions—including rural electric

service. If that surprises you, consider this: The state’s 26 electric power associations arerooted in a homegrown initiative that lifted rural residents from the “dark ages” of the early 20th century into a brighter future of social and economic progress.

Without a1ordable and reliable electric service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It’s important to the members we serve and it’s the way to grow and develop our communities.

Today, more than 1.8 million Mississippians enjoy the bene2ts of their electric powerassociation, an enterprise owned and operated bythe people it serves. Electric power associations grew up in Mississippi. We are home owned and homegrown.
