The sixth annual Nisswa Firecracker Run will feature 10K, 5K and kids run events starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 4, in downtown Nisswa.

The event limits participation to 1,500 run-ners looking to race on Independence Day. The Firecracker Run is noted for being fast and flat, especially the 10K, through wooded, scenic routes.

The Zorbaz Kidz Run will offer children ages 9 and under with parents registered for the 5K or 10K races the opportunity to test their own met-tle. All child participants will receive a free personal pan pizza from Zorbaz on Gull for run-ning the almost one quarter mile course through the city park. Registration is not required for the Kidz Run.

Race events include a crawfish boil, free Pabst, and the Red, White and Blue Snow Party with a Slip’N Slide finish line. Participants also will receive T-shirts.

In an effort to accommodate the crowds of people that attend the Nisswa Freedom Days Parade, which will be Friday, July 3, this year, the city of Nisswa has made changes regarding parking along the parade route.

Parking spaces on the west side of Main Street will be closed beginning at 11 p.m. Thursday, July 2. Those spaces will be closed until 9 p.m. Friday, July 3, to accommodate for the parade that starts at 7 p.m. July 3.

The parking spaces closures will allow parade watchers to have more space to sit to view the parade. The area impacted includes the parallel parking places in front of Nisswa Square on South Main Street; Main Street from Big Axe Brewery to Moxy Hair Studio;

Lundrigan’s to the post office; and in front of Pioneer Village.

Parking spaces on the east side of Main Street will remain open.

Parking on the west side of the Nisswa American Legion, going north, will also be closed to allow for parade participant lineup.

People are encouraged to park along city streets, the parking lots at the Nisswa Community Center, Nisswa Elementary School, St. Christopher’s Catholic Church and Journey Church.

Hazelwood Drive is also accessible, and you can walk through the tunnel.

“We have a great parade on July 3. Safety for our visitors and our parade participants is a priority,” said Shawn Hansen, president/CEO of the Nisswa

Chamber. “We are working with the Nisswa Police Department to make some changes to the event so we can utilize our downtown Main Street for the parade route, yet maintain the high-est level of safety in our community.”

Many communities close off parking along their parade routes, Hansen said, reiterating that parking will remain open on the east side of Main Street.

Signs will be posted and violators will be towed.

The Nisswa Chamber and Nisswa Police Department thank everyone for their cooperation relating to this change in parking.

People should adhere to the areas designated no parking, from 11 p.m. July 2 to 9 p.m. July 3.
