Page 8 Atchison County Mail May 14, 2015 Jeremy Sloop Jeremy Sloop received a one year certificate in Welding and a one year certificate in Auto Mechanics I from Northwest Technical School in Maryville. Jeremy boarded a school bus every day at 6:30 a.m. to travel to Northwest Technical School. He arrived back in time for lunch and afternoon classes. Jeremy plans to enroll in an HVAC program at Southeast Community College in Milford, NE. Raina Fritzler Raina will be leaving on May 18th for the National Guard. Upon completing her Basic training she will then progress to AIT training. At the beginning of 2016, Raina plans to study Psychology at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. Kaci Burke Kaci Burke received a special gift today from years gone by. She was one of two young ladies who had art projects chosen by the Elementary Principal to be framed and hung in the hallways of Rock Port Elementary. Kaci received her caterpillar picture from 1st grade. Payton Lingerfelt Along with the New Horizon’s Scholarship Payton was the first recipient of the Warren and Evalyn Morgan Charitable Trust High School Vocational Scholarship which is renewable for high school students. Warren and Evalyn were farmers in the Watson area for several years, and Evalyn was a teacher. They valued education and helping students achieve their educational goals. Their charitable trust has been able to help many Atchison County students. Payton also received the United Methodist Church Charles and Betty Shaw Scholarship. Ashlynn Daugherty New Horizons presented Ashlynn with their Vocational Scholarship Award. Ashlynn was the first Atchison County student to receive the Atchison County Development Corporation’s Vocational Scholarship. ACDC is proud to invest in our students, hoping to see them back in Atchison County in future years. The ACDC Board members realize the value of the vocational programs in our small community and hopes to see more applications for this vocational scholarship in the future. Ashlynn is our 2nd High School Morgan Vocational Scholarship awardee for 2015. The College of Hair Design of Lincoln, NE offered Ashlynn a $1000 Hair Art Scholarship to utilize towards her cosmetology and esthetics degrees. Dalton Jones Dalton was the winner of the $2000 MFA Scholarship. The MFA Foundation was established in 1958 with the primary purpose of providing greater educational opportunity for youth in our trade territory. The Foundation’s major activity is its Scholarship Program, which has provided assistance to nearly 11,000 college and university students from rural communities since its initiation in 1965. This scholarship is sponsored by Ag Choice of Rock Port and Fairfax and is one of approximately 330 scholarships presented this year by MFA Incorporated, MFA Oil Company, and their affiliates. Dalton will be attending Northwest Missouri State University where he will put to use his Freshman Merit Scholarship as he is pursuing his degree in Social Science and Coaching. Trevor Holmes In addition to the American Legion Scholarship, Trevor received the $500 A.C. Bin Company Scholarship. Owner and operator Jon Lucas offers this incentive to seniors who are in their 3rd consecutive year of employment with A.C. Bin. Trevor was the first senior to acquire a four year Warren and Evalyn Morgan High School Scholarship. He was the 1st Rock Port Rotary honoree. Trevor was awarded the Missouri State’s Dean’s Scholarship. He plans to attend Missouri State in the fall and study Biology. Sammantha Giddinge Optimist President, Chuck Sierks presented Sammantha the Bill Andrews Memorial Scholarship. Sam was the 1st of three seniors receiving the Rock Port Recycling Scholarship. This award was initiated by community member Gary McGuire. Gary encouraged area residents to donate their aluminum cans and expired batteries so that he, in turn, could put the money towards a scholarship for our local youth. Sam will join the Bears at Missouri State in Springfield where she will study Physical Therapy. Madison Taylor Madison has earned the 1st of four Presidential Award of Excellence certificates, which is based on scoring at the 85th percentile on the ACT in either reading or math and achieving a 3.67 or higher cumulative grade point average. Along with the Gene Bunn and Charles and Betty Shaw -United Methodist Church Scholarships awarded earlier, Madison was the 2nd Morgan High School honoree. UNL has awarded Madison with the $7500 Ruth Leverston Scholarship which is renewable for 4 years. Madison will be attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she will major in Pre-Health/Biology. Tyler Makings Tyler is presented the 2nd Presidential Award of Excellence for the class of 2015. He is being awarded the Northwest Sportsman’s Club Scholarship and is the 3rd four year Morgan High School student. Tyler was chosen as a Missouri State Provost Scholar. He has chosen to attend Rockhurst University- Kansas City in the fall. Tyler will utilize the above listed scholarships along with his Baptist Church, Charles and Betty Shaw and Paul and Ruby Cox-United Methodist Church Scholarships to major in Physical Therapy. Taylor Paulo Taylor was our 4th Morgan High School recipient today. She was also the 3rd Presidential Award of Excellence winner. Taylor was one of 2 chosen to attend Upward Bound housed on the campus of NWMSU. Upward Bound has been sponsored by Northwest Missouri State University since 1986 and services selected schools in Atchison, Gentry, and Nodaway counties in Missouri. Upward Bound participants find their academic careers and social lives enriched by Saturday Academies, college visits, and special activities scheduled throughout the academic year. In addition, Upward Bound sponsors an annual six-week, on campus summer residential program for its members. Missouri Western State University offered Taylor a Governors’ Academic Award. Taylor has chosen to attend Cal-Poly and major in Criminological Psychology. Crystal Schomburg Crystal has completed the requirements for the Missouri A+ Program. This program must document 50 hours of tutoring or mentoring, achieve 95% cumulative attendance over 4 years, maintain a 2.5 GPA and be a good citizen in the community and at school. A+ graduate’s may use their grant benefits at any A+ Missouri public community college or technical or vocational school. The benefits help with the cost of six semesters of fees or the completion of a degree program, whichever comes first. She is also the 2nd of our Upward Bound Graduates from the NWMSU campus. Crystal was the 5th Warren and Evalyn Morgan four year and the 2nd Rock Port Recycling Scholarship awardee. Rock Port’s CTA was proud to honor Crystal with their educational scholarship. The Rock Port Lion’s Club was excited to offer Crystal one of their $500 scholarships this year. Along with the Baptist Church, Beta Gals and P.E.O. scholarships already given, Crystal was awarded the NWMSU Tower Scholarship from Northwest where she will attend in the fall to begin her Cross Categorical Elementary Education Major. Amber Cook Along with Charles and Betty Shaw and the Merle and Vera Walter- Methodist Church Scholarships, Amber was chosen as the 6th Morgan Trust four year award recipient. The Rock Port National Honor Society’s local scholarship was presented to Amber during the High School awards ceremony. Rock Port Rotary and the Rock Port Lion’s Club each chose Amber as their 2nd award winner today. Amber was the 2nd student to be gifted her Principal’s Art Gallery picture. Amber’s picture of a fish is from 4th grade. Along with the aforementioned awards, Amber was the final Presidential Award of Excellence student. Amber was the recipient of the four year $1000 ACDC Scholarship sponsored by Atchison County Development. Amber’s high achieving ACT scores earned her the Missouri Bright Flight Scholarship. She was offered Missouri Western’s President’s Academic and Leadership Scholarships. Peru State College has awarded Amber with the Bobcat Selfie Award and the Dean’s Scholarship. Amber plans to major in Business at Peru State College. Mrs.Kemerling presented the top ten seniors of the 2014-2015 school year. The valedictorian with a cumulative grade point average of 4.6741 is Amber Cook. Again, thanks to everyone who has helped support our youth and especially these seniors.
