Welcome
Spectrum Dance prepares professional dancers for a comprehensive career in
commercial, musical theatre & company dance. We offer our students the
opportunity to excel through specialised teaching techniques whilst focusing on
individual student development.
We believe the key to our student’s success is to provide an individually tailored
curriculum that develops advanced performance techniques in all facets of dance,
singing and acting.
In addition to these core skills Spectrum Dance provide opportunities to engage in
the entertainment industry placing our students at the forefront of their peers.
Directors
Spectrum Dance Directors Trish Squire-Rogers and Katie Rappel enjoy successful
careers within the dance and entertainment industries. With their extensive
knowledge and experience they have choreographed and produced headline
productions around the world.
Trish and Katie work closely with their faculty of highly acclaimed dancers,
choreographers & instructors to deliver the most outstanding accredited Full Time
Dance Course within Australia. Trish and Katie have created a caring and
challenging environment which allows students to excel to their highest potential in
dancing, singing and acting. Upon graduation students are fully equipped with the
triple threat factor.

All Spectrum Dance students are employed by Spectrum Talent Agency which
provides ongoing employment opportunities to students with over 80% of graduates
represented and working within the entertainment industry.
Spectrum Talent Agency provides the unique opportunity to gain valuable industry
experience throughout their tuition. Probationary agreements are made with
students and Spectrum Dance Talent Agency where students are remunerated for
services rendered.

FULL TIME PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM
Spectrum Dance offers a comprehensive Full Time Performing Arts Program that
specialises in the performance and career development of artists. Spectrum Dance
provides students the opportunity to excel through specialised teaching techniques
whilst focusing on individual development. Our course will develop and advance
dance techniques in all genres, build performance skills and provide opportunities to
engage in the entertainment industry. Throughout the program students will become
proficient in the arts of singing, dancing and acting.
Nationally Recognised Accreditation
In addition to the Full Time Performing Arts Program students have the option of three
nationally recognised accredited certificates to choose from. If a student chooses to
select an accreditation option they may be eligible for government funding.
1. Certificate IV in Dance (CUA40113)
The Certificate IV in Dance provides graduates with the necessary skills and
experience so that they may be employed in a variety of dance performance
contexts. This qualification reflects the role of individuals working in a wide variety of
dance performance contexts. They apply solutions to a defined range of
unpredictable problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of
sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others and have limited
responsibility for the output of others.
Duration
12 months full time
Entry Requirements
Pre-requisite for entry to this course is by audition/interview.
Pathways
Successful completion of this course leads to the further training and specialist
qualifications at Diploma level.
2. Diploma of Musical Theatre (CUA50213)
The Diploma of Musical Theatre develops skills in all areas of musical theatre
performance. Throughout this course the student’s talents will be advanced whilst
encouraging confidence and creativity. This qualification reflects the role of
performers working, or aspiring to work, in musical theatre and cabaret productions.
At this level individuals are expected to apply theory and creative skills in a range of
situations and to display initiative and judgment in planning activities. They have
autonomy in performing complex technical operations and can be responsible for
planning, coordinating and evaluating the work of others within broad, but
generally well-defined parameters.

Duration
24 months full time
Entry Requirements
Pre-requisite for entry to completion of Certificate IV in Dance or an audition or other
form of evidence where the candidate demonstrates competence in vocal, dance
and/or acting skills at Certificate IV level.
Pathways
At completion of this course students will have achieved mastery in their field of
talent and be on excellent stead to be employed in the performing arts industries.
3. Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) (CUA50113)
This qualification reflects the role of dancers aspiring to work in professional dance
companies. At this level individuals are expected to apply theory and creative skills
in a range of situations and to display initiative and judgment in planning activities.
They have autonomy in performing complex technical operations and can be
responsible for planning, coordinating and evaluating the work of others within
broad but generally well-defined parameters.
Duration 24 months full time
Entry Requirements
Pre-requisite for entry to completion of Certificate IV in Dance or an audition or other
form of evidence where the candidate demonstrates competence in vocal, dance
and/or acting skills at Certificate IV level.
Pathways
At completion of this course students will have achieved mastery in their field of
talent and be on excellent stead to be employed in the dance company industries.
A Spectrum Summer
A Spectrum Summer is a three day intensive workshop conducted on the
28th - 30th January 2015. It is highly encouraged all students participate. A Spectrum
Summer is an excellent way for students to prepare before they commence their first
year and for advanced students to hone their skills. During this event students will
work alongside some of the best talent in the dance and performing arts industry.

Spectrum Dance covers a range of subjects to ensure that students receive tuition in
all performance elements to ensure their personal success. These include:

Auditioning Techniques
Government Assistance
Students undertaking a Certificate IV in Dance, Diploma in Musical Theatre or
Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance) may be eligible for financial assistance via
Youth Allowance or Austudy.
Assessments
Students are assessed at the end of each term. The assessment requires each
student to demonstrate their dance routines, vocal abilities and dramatic pieces to
a panel of adjudicators. Throughout the term students will be mentored and
continually assessed to help them prepare for their examinations. Results are made
available at the beginning of each term.

Performances
Key highlights of the year include the mid and end of year showcases where each
student will have the opportunity to participate. The extravagant end of year
showcase is hosted at The Palms at Crown which gives the student the opportunity
to perform on a professional stage/environment.
Throughout the year students will choreograph and perform solo routines as well as
participate in numerous open mic nights. Spectrum Dance is often associated with
numerous corporate events and television programs including:
AFL Footy Show
Network 10’s Big Brother
Winter Sound System
Shared Tables
These provide students with valuable industry experience during their tuition.
Facilities
Spectrum Dance is located in Burwood with numerous public transport options
available to students. The premises comprises of four fully equipped dance studios
and two singing studios. The studios provide state of the art facilities including sprung
tarquette floors, full length mirrors, ballet bars, sound systems, keyboards, acrobatics
equipment and are fully air conditioned. Lockers and kitchen facilities are also
provided for student comfort.
Private Singing
Spectrum Dance encourages students to undertake private singing lessons in
addition to their group singing tuition. Private classes are available in the evenings
and on Saturdays. This additional tuition will place students in an advantageous
position and improve future employment prospects.

Fitness and Nutrition
A holistic approach is applied to the development of each dancer with a focus
placed on the individual’s health and wellbeing including nutrition and fitness.
Students are encouraged to obtain gym memberships and attend personal training
so that they may achieve their fitness and nutrition goals.
Scholarships
Spectrum Dance is dedicated to the growth of its students. To support this we offer
annual scholarships to foster excellence in the arts. Eligible candidates must exhibit
exceptional talent, potential and commitment. One full year and one half year
scholarship is awarded annually to each level.

1st Year Students (Certificate IV in Dance)
Applicants wishing to apply for a scholarship must submit an essay outlining why they
believe a scholarship should be awarded to them. The essay should include details
relating to any financial and personal circumstances pertaining to the need of a
scholarship.
Additionally students must attend our summer school program where their
performance in conjunction with their essay, will be taken into consideration.
Evidence of any supporting financial hardship/personal circumstances must be
submitted with application.
2nd and 3rd Year Students (Diploma of Musical Theatre/Diploma of Dance Elite
Performance)
All students are considered for scholarships following the competition of Certificate
IV in Dance. These scholarships are awarded to students based on their
performance during their time with Spectrum Dance. Attitude, dedication, talent
and development will be taken into consideration.
Los Angeles Scholarship
No other Full Time Dance school offers such an amazing opportunity. 2nd and 3rd
year students are eligible to be considered for The L.A Scholarship, an exciting new
award, which was launched in 2012. The L.A Scholarship includes two weeks of
training in Los Angeles, return flights, spending money and training at the some of
the best dance studios in the world.

Auditions
Melbourne Audition
Audition by Appointment Only
Audition Details:
Date/Times: Refer to the Audition Flyer in your information package for your
audition date and times.
Location: Spectrum Dance Studio
Address: 14-18 Banksia St, Burwood, 3125
Gear: Appropriate dance attire and footwear is required including tap shoes
Format: Jazz style class, possible tap performance followed by panel interviews.
Dancers with singing training or experience should prepare a song of
their choice to perform to the panel; please provide your own backing
track.
Applicants with acting backgrounds should prepare at 2minute
monologue.
Call-backs may be necessary and they will occur on the audition date.
Please note: Melbourne auditions are by appointment only. Applicants must
complete and send back their application form, in conjunction with their headshot
and pre dance questionnaire, by the date detailed on the Audition Flyer. Following
this, applicants will be contacted via e-mail to confirm their audition appointment.
Video Audition (Interstate and International Applicants)
If you are applying from interstate and cannot attend the audition please submit a
video audition, along with your application form, headshot, and pre dance
questionnaire that includes the following:
Class work: including warm up, travelling work and routine
As well as any of the following optional extras
Dance solo
Singing solo in the genre of musical theatre – with backing track (no
vocals on the track)
Acting monologue – 3 minutes maximum
