Dear friends and fellow wine lovers,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to The Perlman Music Program’s Sixth Charity Wine Auction at Le Bernardin.

My wife, Toby, recognized from her own musical education that teaching young, talented musicians is a delicate and involved process, similar to properly storing the perfect wine. Just as different wines develop at their own individual pace, so do aspiring young musicians. No matter the time frame, when nurtured properly, like good wine, our students only get better with age.

By joining us tonight, you are making a significant investment in the future of classical music. Your generosity will provide us with the necessary resources to support the world's most talented young artists.

I am thrilled to recognize our esteemed Guests of Honor, Princess Julie and Prince Robert of Luxembourg. Prince Robert is renowned for his visionary leadership of Domaine Clarence Dillon, and I am personally grateful for his kind and generous support of our Auction throughout the years.

Tonight's event would not have been possible without our dedicated Co-Chairs: Ann and Michael Bunyaner, Vanessa and Henry Cornell, Ellen and Rodger DeRose, Edith and Robert F. Hudson, Jr., Katherine and Peter Kend, Leora and Steven Levy, Joanna S. and Daniel Rose, Jeri and George P. Sape, Esq., Hannele and Michael Troise, Diane and Thomas Tuft, and Eileen and Ronald Weiser.

Finally, I must thank Michael Troise, who has lent us his sound advice and incomparable expertise for so many years, and for his invaluable role in writing and preparing this catalogue. Michael is also generously lending his experienced services as our Auctioneer. His encyclopedic knowledge and inimitable presence at the podium will no doubt make for an exciting and unforgettable evening.

We are incredibly fortunate to have some excellent lots this year, and I extend a heartfelt thanks to all of our generous donors, and to all of you in this room tonight. In the spirit of a wonderful cause, I hope you will raise your paddle and bid high!

Cheers,

Itzhak Perlman

Hudson, Jr., Katherine and Peter Kend, Leora and Steven Levy, Joanna S. and Daniel Rose, Jeri and George P. A TOAST FOR GOOD LUCK—A RARE JEROBOAM OF THE GREAT KRUG GRANDE CUVEE

What better way to begin our auction tonight than with a good luck toast to The Perlman Music Program by the world’s greatest producer of Champagne – the House of Krug.

Krug Grande Cuvée is the archetype of Krug’s philosophy of craftsmanship and savoir faire: a blend of approximately 120 wines from ten or more different vintages, some of which may reach 15 years of age. Blending so many vintages gives Krug Grande Cuvée its unique fullness of flavors and aromas, its incredible generosity and its absolute elegance - something impossible to express with the wines of just a single year. Its exceptional finesse is the result of a stay of at least another six years in the cellar. Over twenty years are needed to craft each bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée: the first prestige cuvée re-created each year, beyond the very notion of vintage.

“Always exhibiting a deep golden color and a fine, vivacious bead of tiny bubbles, predicting fullness and elegance, Krug Grande Cuvée’s aromas of flowers in bloom, ripe and dried fruit, marzipan, gingerbread and citrus fruits explode from the glass followed by flavors of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, jellied and citrus fruits, almonds, brioche and honey. It is truly a Champagne all about balance and the integration of power and finesse.” Michael Troise

• One Jéroboam of Krug Grande Cuvée

A PETER MICHAEL EXTRAVAGANZA

In 1982, after six years of searching for land to serve as both vineyard and family retreat, Sir Peter Michael and Lady Michael purchased 630 acres of volcanic ridges on the western face of Mount St. Helena in Knights Valley. Following Sir Peter’s 100 by 100 vision – 100% family ownership for at least 100 years – and drawing inspiration from the great wineries of Burgundy and Bordeaux, the family hired like-minded viticulturists and winemakers to help them create terroir driven wines that would stand the test of time. Today, with the support of son, Paul, and his wife Emily, the Peter Michael winery still adheres to its original founding principles of “mountain vineyards, classical winemaking, and limited production.”

A LUXURIOUS NAPA VALLEY VACATION

Anything that comes from the hands of the talented and hard working Bill Harlan turns into gold. The Napa Valley Reserve is a unique member only wine, created by Bill Harlan in 1997 and since then a slowly growing wine club with a limit of 300 members. It's very easy to become a member – you only need to get a personal invitation from Bill himself, and of course pay the onetime six-figure entrance fee.

The last in a series of five volcanic landslides created a small sliver of land in Napa Valley and gifted it with the rare combination of attributes necessary to grow high quality Bordeaux grape varietals. Leslie Rudd, founder of Rudd Oakville Estate, was fortunate to become steward of a portion of this land in 1996. His vision for the winery was founded upon a passion for the land and a clear intent to build a multi-generational winery with a legacy of excellence.

Among Napa Valley Luxury Hotels, Meadowood is the ultimate luxury resort featuring cozy cottages, elegant suites, and spacious lodges in a private, 250 acre forested setting. Fireplaces add a romantic glow and terraces offer ideal settings for quiet contemplation.

St. Helena's Press Restaurant celebrates the famous red wines of the Napa Valley with the finest prime dry-aged beef grilled over almond and cherry wood, wood-fired rotisserie chicken, and locally raised lamb and pork. The comfortable vineyard setting includes indoor and outdoor seating with large fireplaces, and a hand-crafted walnut bar framed by twin wine towers.

PINOT ENVY

“The 1996 Pinot Noir Marcassin Estate exhibits a dense, dark plum color as well as an exceptionally majestic bouquet of sweet plums, cherries, forest floor and red and black currants. With sweet, beautifully integrated tannins, a medium to full-bodied mouth feel, beautiful, exuberant fruit and gorgeous deepness, this fully mature 1996 displays little evidence of falling apart. This complex beauty should drink well for 5-10 more years.” “Utterly profound, the 2004 Pinot Noir Marcassin Estate has a deep plum/ruby/purple-tinged color and a sweet nose of black raspberries, roasted meats, forest aromas, soy, and fresh mushrooms. Layered and multi-dimensional, with sweet but noticeable tannin, and broad, intense flavors, this is a stunning wine that should drink nicely for a decade or more.”

“The most structured, backward, and restrained of the Pinot Noirs is the dark ruby/plum-colored 2005 Pinot Noir Marcassin Estate. Notes of crushed rock, sweet cherries, raspberries and gamey autumnal forest floor notes as well as spring flowers make for a reserved but burgeoning, enormously promising aromatic display.”

“The star of this trio is the 2006 Pinot Noir Marcassin Estate, which represents a California version of a grand cru Clos de la Roche from the likes of Ponsot. Its floral component, fabulous concentration, awesome texture, and expansive, broad mouth feel make for a Pinot Noir bordering on perfection.”

“The mindboggling 2007 Pinot Noir Marcassin Estate may be the finest Pinot Noir Wetlaufer and Turley have ever produced. The wine possesses staggering intensity and richness but it is neither heavy nor overbearing. This is an exquisite Pinot Noir the likes of which Marcassin has never before made.” All quotes from Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

AN EXTRAORDINARY IMPERIAL OF 2010 CHATEAU MARGAUX

Under the brilliant direction of the incomparable and undisputed grande dame of Bordeaux, Corinne Menztelopoulus, Château Margaux has produced a succession of stunningly great vintages. The 2010 Château Margaux is certainly one of the very best of them.

“The 2010 is a brilliant Château Margaux, as one might expect in this vintage. The percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon in the final blend hit 90%, the balance Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and only 38% of the crop made it into the Château Margaux. Paul Pontallier, the administrator, told me that this wine has even higher levels of tannin than some other extraordinary vintages such as 2005, 2000, 1996 do. Deep purple, pure and intense, with floral notes, tremendous opulence and palate presence, this is a wine of considerable nobility. With loads of blueberry, black currant and violet-infused fruit and a heady alcohol level above 13.5%), its beautifully sweet texture, ripe tannin, abundant depth and profound finish all make for another near-perfect wine that should age effortlessly for 30-40 years.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Château Margaux produces very, very few Imperials. This one was given to Maestro Perlman and The Perlman Music Program personally by Madame Menztelopoulus especially for tonight’s auction. Includes:

A DOUBLE MAGNUM OF 1989 CHATEAU HAUT BRION

“The 1989 Haut Brion continues to be one of the immortal wines and one of the greatest young Bordeaux wines of the last half-century. Consistently prodigious and almost a sure bet to top the scoring card of any blind tasting of this vintage as well as other years, the 1989 Haut-Brion is a seamless, majestic classic, and a tribute to this phenomenal terroir and its singular characteristics. The wine still has a very thick, viscous-looking ruby/purple color, a spectacular, young but awesome smorgasbord of aromas ranging from scorched earth, liquid minerals, graphite, blackberry and black currant jam to toast, licorice, and spice box. The levels of fruit, extract, and glycerin in this viscous, full-bodied, low-acid wine are awe-inspiring. The brilliant symmetry of the wine, extraordinary purity, and seamlessness are the hallmarks of a modern-day legend. It is still in its pre-adolescent stage of development, and I would not expect it to hit its full plateau of maturity for another 3-5 years, but this should be an Haut-Brion that rivals the greatest ever made at this estate. Life is too short not to drink this wine as many times as possible.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate Note: this double magnum was personally inspected and authenticated by Michael Troise. Includes:

Conveniently located near Lincoln Center, it is a hot spot for some of the most powerful and influential people around.

“The 2005 Gruaud Larose exhibits a dark ruby color and a distinctive, herbal, meaty, horsey nose, medium to full body, good depth, power, and richness, and soft tannins. The wine’s rustic aromas and earthy style are intriguing and provocative.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“(In the 2011 Domaine Faiveley Bienvenues), the medium-bodied flavors possess a sophisticated mouth feel and plenty of palate coating dry extract before culminating in a wonderfully long finish.” Allen Meadows, Burghound

A FULL CASE OF 1983 CHATEAU MARGAUX

“This is undoubtedly the "wine of the vintage." Still dark opaque purple/black-colored, with no evolution to its color and no signs of bouquet development, this backward, super-concentrated, powerful and tannic wine needs at least another 10-15 years of cellaring. A classic Margaux, it is loaded with ripe cassis fruit intertwined with flavors of smoky vanillin oak. Full-bodied, with layers of flavor, as well as sensational focus and length, it has barely budged since its early days in cask. This is a wine that should keep for another 35-40 years.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

DINNER FOR FOUR AT LE BERNARDIN

At Le Bernardin, seafood is always the star. No other restaurant in the city makes the simple cooking of fish (and the fish at Le Bernardin is cooked simply, when it is cooked at all) seem so ripe with opportunities for excitement. From the day this posh restaurant opened in New York City, it was recognized for revolutionizing the way fish was prepared.

Under the relentless guidance of Eric Ripert, the executive chef, and Maguy LeCoze, his partner in the business, Le Bernardin moves forward without resting. After a dining room redesign in 2011, the interior walks in step with the cuisine: up-to-date, lively, intimate and playful. Le Bernardin is one of only nine restaurants in the United States to have earned three Michelin stars.

“A wine of extraordinary complexity and intensity, the 2003 Margaux reveals a deep purple color, a style not unlike the 1990 Margaux (possibly even more concentrated), a velvety texture, and notes of spring flowers interwoven with camphor, melted licorice, crème de cassis, and pain grille. Not a blockbuster, it offers extraordinary intensity as well as a surreal delicacy/lightness.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“Light gold with a tight but promising nose of roasted hazelnuts intermixed with crème brulée, vanilla beans, honey, orange marmalade, and peaches, the 1996 Yquem is a medium to full-bodied offering revealing loads of power in its restrained, measured personality.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

TWO GREAT DINNERS FOR TWO AT LINCOLN CENTER

Lincoln Ristorante is the home of one of the world’s great chefs, Jonathan Benno. You may remember Chef Benno from his days as Executive Chef of per se. Now, Chef Benno has re-invented himself in Lincoln, coming back to his Italian roots. He offers an interpretation of modern Italian cuisine with a philosophy that is simple: to source the best local ingredients and prepare them with authentic Italian methods and spirit. While its location beside Lincoln Center’s reflecting pool and Henry Moore sculpture is perhaps the most exquisite of any other in the world, with its panoramic views and a grass lawn roof, the soul of the restaurant is the central open kitchen.

Jeffrey Chodorow brings a little bit of the East End to the Upper West Side with Ed’s Chowder House. The Ed in question is Ed Brown, who knows a little bit about seafood, having authored The Modern Seafood Cook and assisted with the fish section of the new Joy of Cooking. Here, he puts his expertise to work on “sea shack cuisine,” meaning, of course, chowders, lobster, whole fish, and even a "chowder bar" serving lobster rolls, steamers and the like. And what new all-American restaurant would be complete without a raw bar? Chodorow’s designer, Jeffrey Beers, certainly took elegant liberties that make it hard to call this expansive space a fish shack.

RARE DOUBLE MAGNUMS OF CULT CALIFORNIA WINES

Finding a needle in a haystack is child’s play compared to finding these incredible and rare double magnums of California cult wines. Truth is, you’d have a better chance of finding a needle in a needle stack.

"I wouldn’t be surprised to see the 2010 Harlan Estate inch closer to perfection over the next decade. The 2010 is sensual and performing remarkably well. Rich, full-bodied and softer than I would have expected in this vintage, it is a prodigious, multidimensional, compelling wine." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“The brilliant 2010 Dalla Valle Cabernet Sauvignon is slightly richer, revealing more smokiness, graphite and crème de cassis notes as well as a dense purple color, a big, masculine, tannic mouth feel and a full-bodied, rich finish. This majestic Cabernet Sauvignon should age effortlessly for 25-30 years.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“The 2005 Dominus has a medium to deep garnet-purple color with vibrant scents of warm blackcurrants, plums, mocha, vanilla, cloves and nutmeg...this vintage provides a high level of acidity matched by firm fine tannins and a lot of rich, concentrated fruit yielding a more opulent style.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“The backward, elegant, complex 2001 Montelena Estate reveals a dense ruby/purple color along with foresty, earthy notes intermixed with black currant characteristics as well as sweet tannin.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“In 1987 Michael Etzel and brother-in-law, Robert Parker, purchased a run-down pig farm on Ribbon Ridge and established The Beaux Frères Vineyard. Since the first vintage in 1990, the philosophy remains the same – to produce world class Pinot noir that represents the essence of the vineyard. The 2006 Beaux Frères Upper Terrace Pinot Noir is no exception.” Michael Troise Includes:

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS

Everybody dreams of having an apartment in Paris. Ambassador and Mrs. Ronald Weiser's two-bedroom apartment on the Ile Saint-Louis will surely fulfill that dream. The winning bidder will be spending seven days and nights in this unique apartment located on quai Bourbon in the heart of Paris, just steps from Notre Dame! According to Jacques Hillaret, the quai Bourbon was built between 1614 and 1646 and owes its name to the Royal Family of the Bourbon. All the buildings along the quai date back to the 17th century and overlook the Seine, just above the bridge Louis-Phillipe. King Louis-Phillipe placed the first stone on the bridge on July 28, 1833. When you look from the windows of the drawing room to the left, you see the church of St. Gervais. The construction of the church began when Lutetia (Paris under the Roman Empire) was merely a swamp.

As you enter the apartment, the mahogany console on the right is English 19th century and the two chairs on either side are Danish 1920s. The prints on the wall are by Nicola Vanni, who worked in Naples between and 1750 and 1770. As you proceed into the drawing room, you will see a sculpture of Theseus fighting the centaur, Bienor, by Antoine-Louis Barye and cast by F. Barbedienne after a plaster shown in the salon of 1850. Copies of it can be found in several museums in Europe and America. The chaise lounge to the right is Swedish 18th century. The four drawings are by Bouchet, one of the architects who collaborated on Paris’s Madeleine church. The mirror above the fireplace dates from Napoleon III. The two sculptures on the mantelpiece are of Amerindiens, a European 19th century vision of America. The fireplace is Louis XVIth in style and the back plate is an original 18th century piece.

The master bedroom is covered with a fabric designed by Braquerie in the 1850s. The painting on the wall is by Danish post-Impressionist, Julius Paulsen, and the mirror is Provençal 18th century. The chest of drawers and the two side tables are original pieces built during the Napoleanic era and the four Biscuitware pieces are Danish 19th century, an allegory of the four seasons. The guest room is covered with a fabric called “The Lion and the Muses”. The photographs, representing views of Paris, are late 1870s by Quinet, Lorgnier and unknown. The small game table is Louis XVI and the books on the way to the bathroom are from the repertoire of the French theater.

During your visit you will discover much more about the apartment, its furnishings and the Ile Saint-Louis. The island is its own microcosm, offering great dining, people-watching and shopping. All of this can be yours with a winning bid tonight.

BIG BURGUNDY

“The 2009 red Burgundies have attracted considerable attention for their ripe, seductive personalities. Is all of the hype justified? In most cases it is. The wines are open and expressive, with a warm radiance that seems to echo the extended sunlight that is one of the defining characteristics of the year. The 2009s are fleshy, generous wines that are impressive for their textural richness, even if at times they lack the verve, transparency and inner perfume that is such a big part of what makes Burgundy unique. It is a very even, consistent year across both the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits at all levels. In the Côte de Beaune in particular, many wines are almost excessively rich, yet remain well-balanced.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“A nose of truffle, discreet earth plus red and dark berry fruit aromas that precedes the supple and seductive mineral-infused flavors that are linear and strikingly persistent.” Allen Meadows, speaking about the 2009 Frédéric Esmonin Ruchottes Chambertin

DINNERS FOR FOUR AT ELEVEN MADISON PARK AND THE MODERN

Dine at the current #4 restaurant in the world. Yes, in the world!

Chef Daniel Humm and General Manager, Will Guidara’s sleek Art Deco restaurant, Eleven Madison Park, offers a master class in surprise. From the mysterious string-tied box that kicks off proceedings to the waiter affixing a meat grinder to the table, little can be anticipated. What diners can rely on, though, is a dining experience that is as delightful as it is engaging, highlighted by the use of peerless ingredients and world class cooking.

In the ever prestigious Pellegrino World’s 50 Greatest Restaurants 2014 ranking, Eleven Madison Park is #4 and was awarded the honor of being “Best Restaurant in North America”. It also is one of only nine restaurants in the United States to have been award three Michelin stars. Any more questions?

In the dining room of The Modern, groups of murmuring patrons can admire the Calders in the museum’s expanded sculpture garden while sipping their special “MoMA Blend” after-dinner tea. The chef is none other than Abram Bissell, the brilliant former Executive Chef of the NoMad. The atmosphere in the formal dining room is relaxed formal, and so is the cooking. Dinner at the Modern is attended by every conceivable four-star flourish and accoutrement. Dishes are perambulated around the room under polished silver warmers. There are amuse-gueules and palate-cleansing intermezzi, and a gentle avalanche of petits fours to enjoy with your selection of designer teas. This special sense of polish and occasion is heightened by the restaurant’s beautiful location.

AN IMPRESSIVE DUET OF BORDEAUX

“My tasting notes for 1996 Léoville Las Cases begin with the following words "wow, wow, wow!" I had been looking forward to re-tasting this 1996 since I had it in spring, 1997, and I was not disappointed by its evolution. The wine possesses an opaque purple color, and an attention-getting, staggering, sweet nose that offers the essence of black currant fruit, kirsch, and minerals as well as the essence of Léoville-Las-Cases's personality. It is fabulously concentrated, with the sur-maturité (over-ripeness) of Cabernet Sauvignon, one of the wine's most undeniable hallmarks. When measured, the tannin level is extremely high, but you would never know that when tasting this wine because of the massive amount of extract, purity, and virtually perfect equilibrium. Despite its rare combination of unbridled power and complexity, this wine has beaucoup de finesse, as well as a finish that lasts close to 45 seconds. A candidate for a perfect rating, it is a modern day legend in the making. Will it surpass the 1986 and 1982? Time will tell. Only 40% of the total harvest was used in the 1996, with the final blend containing a slightly higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon than usual.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“The prodigious and fantastic 2003 Cos d’Estournel may just be the wine of the vintage. A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon (unusually high for this chateau), 30% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, 17,500 cases were produced from low yields. An inky/blue/purple color is accompanied by a compelling perfume of black fruits, subtle smoke, pain grille, incense, and flowers. With extraordinary richness, full body, and remarkable freshness, elegance, and persistence, this is one of the finest wines ever made by this estate. The good news is that it will be drinkable at a young age yet evolve for three decades or more. Kudos to winemaker Jean-Guillaume Prats and owner Michel Reybier.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

WINES FROM THE DOMAINE DE LA ROMANEE CONTI

If you stand on the road next to Burgundy’s most famous property, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, you’ll see no discernible aura hovering over its collection of grand cru vineyards. Yet these plots are where the world’s benchmark chardonnay and pinot noir wines come from. (There are eight: one white, Montrachet, and seven reds: Corton, Echézeaux, Grands Echézeaux, Romanée-St-Vivant, Richebourg, La Tâche and the crown jewel, Romanée-Conti, for which the estate is named.) Even in a bountiful year, the domaine produces well under 10,000 cases, the equivalent of spilling a few tantalizing drops into the maw of immense worldwide demand. Are they worth it? The answer is a resounding absolutely. Rarity, reputation and the current craze for Burgundy—especially among Asian collectors—are the reasons that any wines from the Domaine de la Romanée Conti are simply the hottest and most expensive in the world, period.

“Highly expressive scents of flowers, perfume, and black cherries can be found in the aromatic profile of the Domaine’s 2002 Grands Echézeaux. Satin-textured in the attack, its pretty, pepper-laced black berry-flavored personality is light to medium-bodied and lacks the persistence expected from a grand cru.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“Game, musk, Latakia tobacco, and dark berries in the nose of the Domaine’s 2007 Richebourg foreshadow flavors of salted tart black fruits, roasted game, and hints of black pepper and tar, all underlain by mouth-coating, faintly gum-numbing if fine-grained, tannins.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“Peat, leather, humus, forest floor, and decadent floral perfume of the Domaine’s 2007 Romanée St. Vivant are joined by an oceanic saline aspect, and these surf-and-turf aspects follow on a polished palate that – despite only the slightest nod in the direction of overt fruitiness by way of dark berries – nevertheless displays a mouth-watering juiciness to accompany its myriad mineral and organic complexities.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

SCREAMING EAGLE - CALIFORNIA’S MOST SOUGHT AFTER WINE

It started out as just another fall day in Napa Valley for wine critic, Robert Parker. The Oakville Grocery was right down the road and there was just enough time to pick up an armful of new Cabernets for the December 1995 issue. On that fateful day though, a star was born. One of the wines he tasted was from a winery he’d never seen or even heard of before. The bottle had a funny looking label, about the size of a postage stamp and an even stranger name to go with it – Screaming Eagle. After all, this was 1995 in Napa Valley. You just don’t name wines after birds.

Well, unless you were hatched from an egg on another planet, you already know the rest. Suffice to say that Screaming Eagle is now, by far, the most expensive and sought after wine in California history, period.

Tonight, do we have something incredible for you! We are fortunate to have, sent to us as a gift direct from the winery, a meritage Screaming Eagle. That’s right, not Cabernet Sauvignon but a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Talk about rare. The winery had been experimenting with different grape varieties for years, specifically Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. But, beginning with the 2006 vintage, they finally decided to bottle some.

A FULL CASE OF 1989 CHATEAU LA CONSEILLANTE

“The 1989 is the wine to buy. Tasted ten different times, it is this property's greatest effort since their 1949. An awesome bouquet of plums, exotic spices, and vanillin is followed by a wine that has brilliant definition, remarkable power, but also grace and elegance. Fabulously long, pure, sweet, and expansive, with an explosive finish, this wine should be at its best between 1996 and 2015. It was aged in 100% new oak because of its richness. How much fun millionaires will have debating the virtues of the 1989 versus the 1990 La Conseillante! I should also note that several of Bordeaux's most trusted tasters consider this the wine of the vintage. Since bottling, the wine is displaying more structure and less fragrance, suggesting it will need longer than I initially suspected to open up.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

DINNER FOR TWO AT THE HOTTEST RESTAURANT IN TOWN: THE NOMAD

In the golden age of robber baron New York—we’re talking turn of the last century—there were hotel restaurants like the NoMad all across the city, their grand dining rooms buzzing with beau monde patrons morning till night. The recent return of the all-day hotel clubhouse began with hip reinventions of the form at the Standard, Ace, and Gramercy Park Hotels. But the NoMad, with its rich mahogany bar and dining rooms shrouded in red velvet curtains, is our first truly opulent throwback.

The luxurious setting, flawless service, and preponderance of foie gras and truffles call to mind an haute cuisine titan like Jean-Georges Vongerichten or Daniel Boulud. But with its fashionable crowd and cool, voluptuous vibe—the décor is by hot Parisian designer Jacques Garcia—there are clearly some young Turks behind the wheel, and they are Chef Daniel Humm and front-of-house partner Will Guidara. Humm and Guidara have created an old-fashioned restaurant that’s also exciting and new. The food will haunt you, in the best possible way. The minute you leave, you’ll pine to come back.

“For the 1992 Château Lafite only 36% of the harvest was used, resulting in a deeply-colored wine with a nearly exceptional cedary, chocolatey, cassis-character, medium body, surprisingly concentrated flavors, as well as the classic Lafite aromatic profile.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“The 2001 Doisy-Daene L’Extravagant is a huge, big, unctuous fruit bomb revealing botrytis, honeysuckle, and all the other great characteristics that make these wines so compelling. Is it significantly better than other vintages of this limited 125-case cuvee? I am not sure, but the 2001 is a multi-dimensional, textured, massive effort with a medium gold color, great botrytis as well as good acidity.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

A MAGNIFICENT IMPERIAL OF 2005 MARGAUX

If there was ever a bottle of wine that embodied the scope and gravitas of Gustav Mahler, particularly the Second Symphony, “The Resurrection”, it’s this Imperial of 2005 Château Margaux. Simply put, this is a monumental wine.

“Another celestial effort from Paul Pontallier and Corinne Mentzelopoulus, the 2005 Margaux, a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, boasts a dense opaque blue/purple color as well as an extraordinary bouquet of spring flowers, blueberries, black raspberries, crème de cassis, licorice, and, despite its having spent two years in 100% new wood, only a subtle touch of toasty oak. Although full-bodied, the wine seems light on its feet because of the silky tannins as well as the great gravel terroir from which it comes. Beautiful purity, length, and nobility define this modern day classic. It is unquestionably one of the all-time great wines made at Château Margaux. This estate has produced only exceptional wines over the last three decades. The seamlessness of the 2005 suggests it will perform well early, but it should last for a half century or more.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Fine, frisky bubbles and a long praline finish.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

RUB CHOPSTICKS WITH THE GLITTERATI AT NOBU AND TRIBECA GRILLNext time you have a sushi meltdown and crave those treasures from the sea you’ve been dreaming about, you’ll only have yourself to blame if you didn’t keep your paddle up long enough to have this gift certificate in your pocket.

Nobu New York, the flagship New York location for legendary chef Nobu Matsuhisa, opened to much anticipation in 1994. Nobu's co-owners are his longtime partners: renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, Meir Teper, and Nobu managing partner, Richie Notar. The restaurant showcases Nobu's signature new style Japanese cuisine with classic dishes such as Tiradito Nobu Style and Black Cod with Miso and the hibachi table. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times.

Tribeca Grill is also co-owned by restaurateur Drew Nieporent and actor Robert De Niro. The Grill has become one of New York's downtown restaurant landmarks, and features robust dishes such as braised short ribs with porcini mushrooms, fava beans and English peas. The Grill is also a wine destination, one of only seven restaurants in New York to receive the Grand Award from Wine Spectator Magazine.

“The 2002 Dom Pérignon is at first intensely floral, with perfumed jasmine that dominates the bouquet. With time in the glass the wine gains richness as the flavors turn decidedly riper and almost tropical. Apricots, passion fruit and peaches emerge from this flashy, opulent Dom Pérignon.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“The 2013 Arietta White Wine "On the White Keys" is about as exciting a white wine as we’ve ever made. An unusual condition in our Sonoma Mountain Sauvignon Blanc vineyard - full ripeness countered by brilliant, high acidity - brings tremendous breath and tension, like music played at the extreme ends of the keyboard.” Arietta wine maker, Andy Erickson

“The 2012 Arietta Quartet displays all the qualities you could hope for in a vintage: fragrance, opulence, depth, tremendous length, and balance.” Arietta wine maker, Andy Erickson

2011 MAGNUMS DIRECT FROM CHATEAU HAUT-BRION

“A blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc, it is interesting to taste the 2011 Haut-Brion next to the more open-knit, seductive 2011 La Mission Haut-Brion. The former wine is more firm, backward and earthy with a more formidably structured style. Undeniably elegant, distinctive and original, it exhibits notes of mulberries, plums, blueberries and raspberries.”

“The small production (4,150 cases) of 2011 La Mission Haut-Brion displays the nobility and complexity of this great terroir. Burning embers, scorched earth, blueberry, black currant, licorice and spice aromas jump from the glass of this dense ruby/purple-colored wine. With full body (atypical for a 2011), but no hard edges, this opulent, multidimensional, fleshy, rich, stunningly long, well-balanced La Mission is another great achievement in what has been nearly a century of producing remarkable wines from this hallowed vineyard.”

“An equal part blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the 2011 Quintus boasts a deep blue/purple color along with copious raspberry, spring flower and herb characteristics intermixed with hints of gun flint and forest floor. It is medium to full-bodied, surprisingly complex and silky smooth. Formerly known as Tertre Daugay, this property was purchased by the Dillon family who also owns Château Haut-Brion and Château La Mission-Haut-Brion. The impressive 2011 is the first vintage the Dillons have controlled completely.” All above quotes from Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

THREE DINNERS FOR TWO TO LIGHT YOUR FIRE

New Yorkers may agree on very little, but One If By Land, Two If By Sea gets a landslide vote for New York's most romantic dining experience. Sit in what was once Aaron Burr's carriage house—surrounded by flowers, warmed by dual fireplaces, lulled by the mellow stylings of the resident pianist—and you may wish you had a ring in your pocket

Bill Telepan, of the highly rated Judson Grill, turns out to be an avowed green marketer. To convey a sense of bucolic earthiness, Telepan's menu is patterned with oak leaves, and the walls of the rooms are colored in a soothing, mossy green. There are over two dozen dishes available, not including dessert. Dining here is truly a treat. The first way Pok Pok shifts your perspective is by offering the food of northern Thailand, which has been largely missing from New York. With a wealth of ingredients and an abundance of pork and firewood, this region developed a cuisine that is less incendiary than other Thai cooking, contains almost no coconut milk and makes great use of the grill.

A VERY SPECIAL, RARE BOTTLE FROM THE MAESTRO’S PERSONAL CELLAR

Okay, so you’ll never even touch one of Itzhak’s two legendary violins; probably a good thing anyway. The amount of green you’d have to cough up if you ever dropped one would cut the national deficit in half.

We have a better idea. Spend a few dollars to help support his students and you can have something else from the Maestro’s personal collection – great wine.

“As usual, the 2005 Le Pin (only 500 cases produced) is an exotic, aromatic effort offering gorgeous aromas of cedar, plums, black cherry liqueur, espresso roast, and chocolate. This full-bodied, rich, fragrant (the Thienponts call it the “Richebourg” of Bordeaux) effort possesses supple, velvety tannin and attractive sweetness and expansiveness, as well as good freshness and definition. It should continue to put on weight and evolve into another blockbuster from this tiny vineyard. The alluring fragrance is followed by an opulent, luscious Pomerol with flamboyant flavors of ripe black fruits intermixed with hints of roasted herbs, meat juices, plums, and Asian spices. Unfortunately, the world’s billionaires quickly gobble up Le Pin’s 500 cases, even at preposterously high prices.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

DYNAMIC DUO: LUNCH AT BETONY AND 1986 MOUTON ROTHSCHILD

Betony is a Modern American restaurant overseen by Executive Chef Bryce Shuman (former Executive Sous Chef of Eleven Madison Park) and General Manager Eamon Rockey (formerly of Eleven Madison Park, Atera, and Aska). The restaurant is located a block off of Fifth Avenue and features soaring ceilings, contemporary photos of New York City street scenes, a 35-seat bar and lounge, and 85-seat dining room. Chef Bryce Shuman is serving elegant, but accessible Modern American cuisine and the service is warm and attentive, without being overbearing. Stop in for a drink and some snacks at the bar, or settle in for a full-on fine dining feast in the back. Betony received a James Beard Award nomination for Best New Restaurant, and a three-star review in the Times, among other accolades, and the team continues to pack the house on a nightly basis.

“In 1986, Mouton-Rothschild produced the most profound wine of a great northern Medoc vintage. The sensational opaque black/ruby color may be even denser than that of the 1982. It requires coaxing and extended airing to bring forth the subdued bouquet of minerals, celestial blackcurrants, smoky new oak, and spices. The wine possesses incredible concentration, full body, fabulous length, and is—well—perfect.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

A FABULOUS VERTICAL COLLECTION OF CHATEAU LA MISSION HAUT-BRION

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is the greatest Graves wine after Haut-Brion and in some vintages is considered the superior wine of the two. La Mission Haut-Brion is situated just across the road from Haut-Brion in the commune of Talence in the southern suburbs of Bordeaux. Since 1983, both properties have been under the same ownership, Domaine Clarence Dillon S.A.

La Mission Haut-Brion's vineyards (Cabernet Sauvignon 48%, Merlot 45%, Cabernet Franc 7%) lie on a large (up to 18 meters deep in places) gravel bank interspersed with clay. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled, stainless steel vats and then matured in oak barriques (100% new) for 18 months. The wines of La Mission Haut-Brion are rich, oaky and powerful and need at least 10 years of bottle ageing before they should be broached. In a word: perfection.

Includes:

• One bottle of 1959 Château La Mission Haut-Brion• One bottle of 1961 Château La Mission Haut-Brion• One bottle of 1966 Château La Mission Haut-Brion• One bottle of 1975 Château La Mission Haut-Brion• One bottle of 1978 Château La Mission Haut-Brion• One bottle of 1982 Château La Mission Haut-Brion• One bottle of 1989 Château La Mission Haut-Brion• One bottle of 1990 Château La Mission Haut-Brion• One bottle of 1998 Château La Mission Haut-Brion• One bottle of 2000 Château La Mission Haut-Brion• One bottle of 2005 Château La Mission Haut-Brion• One bottle of 1961 Château Laville Haut-Brion

AUBERT…OH MY

“Mark Aubert is one of the contenders for California’s finest practitioner of Burgundian-styled, yet classic, California Chardonnays. His offerings are all made like grand cru Burgundies with full malolactic, the use of French oak and lees stirring, but the purity of fruit, the textural dimensions, and the stunning singularity of wines like the 2012 Chardonnay CIX can only be matched by a handful of other Chardonnay producers in the world. He’s that good.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“The 2012 Pinot Noir CIX Estate was made from suitcase clones from Vosne-Romanée. It exhibits abundant notes of forest floor, blackberries, blueberries and spicy oak along with dry tannins in the finish. The wine is multi-dimensional and rich.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Note: only six three liter bottles have been made from this vintage and this is the first-ever donation of these wines in this format. This format size will never be available for public sale, only for philanthropic donations.

MAGNUMS OF THE LEGENDARY CORTON CHARLEMAGNE

According to legend, Charlemagne noted to the Abbey sections of the slope where the snow melted first and ordered that grapevines be planted on that slope. His orders were followed and the hill of Corton was planted first entirely with red grape varieties. A couple decades later, Charlemagne's fourth wife Luitgard was said to be displeased with red wine drippings on the white beard of the king and ordered that a section of the hill be pulled up and replanted with white grape varieties - a section that is today known as Corton-Charlemagne.

Here are six Magnums of Domaine Faiveley’s great Corton Charlemagne. Go ahead. Make your day. Own the wine that the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire drank. Buy some Corton Charlemagne tonight.

“Discreet if not invisible wood frames a reserved but ripe, fresh and high-toned white peach and green apple nose that merges seamlessly into fine, precise, powerful and intensely stony flavors that culminate in an explosive finish with the same vaguely saline quality as the Bienvenues. This incredibly concentrated effort is a positively stunning and completely classic Corton-Charlemagne that is built to age.” Allen Meadows, Burghound

STUNNING BRYANT FAMILY MAGNUMS

Since its debut vintage in 1992, the Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has always been 100% Cabernet Sauvignon made from a 13-acre vineyard atop Pritchard Hill, overlooking Lake Hennessey. It is a magnificent site that has served as a catalyst for other producers to plant vineyards in this gorgeous, distinctive micro-climate and terroir. The Bettina cuvee, named after vineyard President Bettina Bryant, is a proprietary blend from viticulturist David Abreu’s three estate vineyards, Madrona Ranch, Thorevilos and his estate on Howell Mountain called Lucia. Often dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, it usually includes a considerable amount of Cabernet Franc and smaller quantities of Merlot and Petit Verdot.

“The dense plum/purple-colored 2009 Bettina offers lots of white chocolate, espresso roast, Asian spice, black currant and incense characteristics as well as an attractive, suave, fleshy mouth feel. It can be enjoyed today and over the next 15 years.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

“Teasing the taster with three-digit perfection is the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill. This beauty shows lots of crème de cassis, blueberry liqueur, spring flower and forest floor notes in an opulent, full-bodied, powerful, dense, rich style buttressed by significant ripe tannins and decent acidity. Again, the striking purity and singular character of this Bryant Cabernet Sauvignon oozes potential as well as pedigree. This spectacular, young Cabernet should turn out to be one of the all-time great Bryant Cabernet Sauvignons, rivaling their 1997, but slightly more structured.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

THE LEGENDARY 1990 HERMITAGE LA CHAPELLE

“The 1990 La Chapelle is monumental. It is almost black in color. Tasted several times in along with the 1989, 1988, 1983, and 1978, it was easily the most intense and complete wine of the group. The finest La Chapelle made since the 1961 and 1959, it is even richer, deeper, and more highly extracted than the perfect 1978. The percentage of new oak was increased to 50% because of the wine's power. The maceration period lasted an amazing 44 days. While Jaboulet experimented with pre-bottling filtration during the mid-eighties, this wine was put in the bottle with no processing. The huge nose of pepper, underbrush, and black fruits displays amazing intensity. In the mouth the wine has awesome concentration, extraordinary balance and power, and a fabulously long, huge finish that lasts for more than a minute. The tannins are considerable, but the prodigious quantities of sweet fruit and multidimensional, layered feel to the wine make it one of the most incredible young red wines I have ever tasted.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

HERE COMES THE JUDGE

“The mystical John Kongsgaard came out of the Newton winemaking factory where he was mentored by the great Michel Rolland. However, he has had his own operation for many years in the cool Coombsville hills east of the town of Napa. Although his total acreage is small, the wines are artisanal, individualistic and filled with personality and flavor. Anyone who believes Kongsgaard wines are too alcoholic or rich is missing out on some of the world’s most pleasure-filled and complex elixirs. The Chardonnays include a basic cuvée, which comes from selected parcels John Kongsgaard has long worked with in the Hudson and Hyde vineyards (from Old Wente clonal materials). There is also an estate Chardonnay, the riveting, prodigious The Judge named after Kongsgaard’s father. It comes from a six-acre parcel planted in 1975 in Coombsville that never yields more than ten tons of fruit. It is Old Wente clone material, which old-timers claim, but can’t prove, came from Burgundy’s grand cru Corton-Charlemagne.”

“The 2010 Chardonnay The Judge is rich, ripe and seamless, but also supported by plenty of vintage 2010 minerality. Lemon, pastry, spices and intense crushed rocks are all woven together beautifully in a focused, taut Chardonnay loaded with class and personality. Saline notes come to life on the layered, nuanced finish. A high presence of shot berries reduced yields to just one ton per acre. Most of the fruit was old Stony Hill Wente. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.”

“The 2011 Chardonnay The Judge is more evolved, complex and seductive, with plenty of honeysuckle, roasted nuts, and marmalade notes intermixed with citrus oil and orange blossom. Although it doesn’t have the size and foundation of the 2012, this beauty is still a knock-out Chardonnay.”

“The 2012 Chardonnay The Judge offers impressive aromas of tangerines, orange marmalade, wet rocks, quince, spring flowers and honeysuckle. Impressively full-bodied and majestic with terrific acidity, it is a tour de force in Chardonnay. Furthermore, it is about as “natural” as possible. Thankfully, Kongsgaard is not one to deal in the quintessential B.S. that now seems so prevalent.” All quotes from Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

EXTREMELY RARE CHEVAL BLANC AND LEGENDARY 1982 BORDEAUX

Tonight we are pleased to offer you one of the rarest bottles imaginable from the great 2005 Bordeaux vintage – an Imperial of 2005 Château Cheval Blanc. Less than 50 of these bottles were made compared with nearly 100,000 regular size bottles. Talk about rare. If that wasn’t enough, we also have for you four of the greatest bottles from the legendary 1982 Bordeaux vintage, arguably the best vintage of the 20th century.

“The 2005 Cheval Blanc is a spectacular blend of nearly equal parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The color is an inky/blue/ruby/purple, and the wine reveals an extraordinary aromatic profile of subtle mocha, licorice, pain grille, and abundant red, blue, and black fruits. This is a classic, quintessential Cheval Blanc boasting a stunning texture and high tannin.”

“Talk about a thrill a second, the 1982 Pétrus is still a colossal wine, exhibiting a backward, sweet, expansive nose of ripe fruit, Provencal herbs, chocolate, and spice. Full-bodied, tannic, and super-concentrated, this wine should keep for 25-30+ years.”

“The 1982 Mouton remains one of the legends of Bordeaux. The crème de cassis, underlying floral note, full-bodied power, extraordinary purity, multilayered texture, and finish of over a minute are a showcase for what this château accomplished in 1982. The wine is still amazingly youthful, vibrant, and pure. It appears capable of remaining fruity and vibrant in 2082!”

“Administrator, Jean Delmas, continues to believe the 1982 Haut Brion is the modern day clone of the 1959 Haut-Brion. It is certainly a rich, seductive, medium to full-bodied Haut-Brion that is beginning to reveal some of the tell-tale, mineral, tobacco, ripe, curranty fruit aspects of this fragrant, complex first-growth. The 1982 Haut-Brion is a full-bodied wine with well-integrated, sweet tannin, true class and character, and a sweet, expansive, long finish.” All of the above quotes from Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

YOU’LL NEED A BIGGER WINE CELLAR

Don’t you remember it like it was yesterday? There’s Chief Brody in the back of the Orca throwing rotten fish bait overboard so that Captain Quint could catch the monster shark which was eating its way through Amity, when all of a sudden, literally out of the blue, Jaws appears. Nearly speechless, Brody walks over to Quint and says one of the greatest, actually ad-libbed no less, lines in movie history – “You’re gonna need a bigger boat”. Come on. You just have to love that!

Well, if you win this lot tonight, for sure you’re going to need a bigger wine cellar. What a stunning collection of greats, including Pétrus, Latour, Haut Brion, and La Tâche.
