Jerusalem House was established over 25 years ago by a coalition of community leaders who envisioned a residential facility for homeless people with AIDS that would foster independence and dignity. Named because “Jerusalem” means “dwelling of peace,” we now provide 60% of the permanent supportive housing designated for our target population. We fulfill our mission through four programs: Program for Adults (opened 1989) - provides homes and supportive services to 25 single adults living with AIDS through 23 efficiency units The Family Program (opened 1997) - devoted to homeless mothers with HIV/AIDS and their children, provides apartment- style living to 12 families Scattered Site I Program (opened 2003) - provides housing for 55 homeless men and women with HIV/AIDS and their families Scattered Site II Program (opened 2009) - provides housing for 109 homeless and low-income families and individuals affected by HIV/AIDS

Of the 250 residents living in a Jerusalem House program each year, approximately 80 are children. Having lived in a structured and stable home environment with access to good schools, these children are likely to break the inter-generational cycles of HIV/AIDS, poverty and homelessness.

MISSION STATEMENT Jerusalem House provides a continuum of housing and supportive services for Atlanta’s

homeless or low-income individuals, families, and children affected by HIV/AIDS; leading the community in meeting their needs.

Since the inception of the Family Program, all resident children have been promoted to the next grade-level.

$.86 of every dollar raised goes

The fundamental tenet of our agency’s mission is Housing is Healthcare. Research shows a direct positive correlation between stable housing and improved HIV/AIDS health outcomes. Additionally, our services help to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS and the life-time costs of proper healthcare. Unfortunately, Atlanta and Georgia continue to show a disproportionately high number of AIDS cases and new HIV infections, and as such, it is critical that we commit additional resources to fight this disease. To these ends, Jerusalem House has developed a comprehensive resource development plan and relies on investment from many stakeholders, including the corporate community.
