Through unyielding efforts to excel in reporting and security systems, Cellutrak has distinguished itself as a proven leader in tracking recovery, vehicle security and personal service. The company is unique in North America, renowned for its ability to specialize in two distinct fields – telematics and theft prevention.

Both telematics and theft prevention are supported by Ituran, a stable proprietary technology originally designed for military use in rescue missions and later adapted for civilian use. Because Cellturak sets its own standards of excellence, its telematics recording functions locate vehicles with pinpoint accuracy and provide extensive monitoring information to assist fleets and other users in maximizing efficiencies. Cellutrak’s basic telematics model communicates information

The year 2014 marks the 90th Anniversary of Premier Manufacturing Co., the Oregon-based producer of couplings (hitches), drawbar eyes, dolly jacks, front end assemblies and hinge assemblies, for trucking industry applications. Established in 1924, Premier Mfg. developed tooling for various types of cast components. The original founder recognized the growing need to hook trailers together, and so began the manufacture of trailer hitches. Nine decades later, Premier has evolved into one of a select number of companies that designs and produces a substantial offering of trailer couplings (hitches) and related components.

From its facility in Tualatin, Oregon, Premier runs a lean manufacturing operation in line with traditional values. “We still run a family-style business and the well-being of each of our employees is extremely im-portant to us,” says COO Paul Grycko, who describes the company’s workforce as professional, hardworking, dedicated and capable of operating independently.

Commercial transportation is an industry that faces many challenges, among them the need to pay for operating expenses before receipt of payment for rendered services. Indeed, receivables for deliveries typically range from 30 to 90 days, terms which often undermine a carrier’s capacity to meet immediate operating costs such as fuel, insurance, repairs and salaries. Commercial carriers have sought out traditional lenders such as banks to address ac-counts payable obligations, but these alternatives are typically attached to restrictive covenants which, if broken, negatively affect the credit worthiness of a company and result in the termination of the loan. In addition, such agreements require proof of equity

President and CEO of Dawson Truck Parts, Don Cameron, exemplifies the aphorism, “Build it and they will come.” In 1992, after a 38-year career as claims adjuster, executive, and later head of a research and training division with a major North American firm, Cameron seized the opportunity to fill a market need. “Back then there was really no one providing after-market truck parts to the commercial transportation industry,” he said, recalling what drove him to embark on a post-retirement career. That initial impulse to fill a market niche has since been transformed into North America’s leading providers of aftermarket replacement body parts. Confirms Cameron: “We are the largest North American aftermarket supplier of truck body repair parts for medium and heavy duty trucks.”Dawson’s successful positioning is anchored in three core principles: prompt service, customer support, and product quality and selection. Indeed, in contrast to past competitors the company regularly updates its

Insurance, page 4 >>

By Marek krasuskI

Trucking is a complicated business, and amid all the regulations and demanding compliance standards to contend with, companies, drivers and owner operators need to protect themselves, firstly on the road with adequate insurance coverage, and sec-ondly, off the road by maximizing the value of their hard earned cash and preparing for a comfortable retirement.

The number of wealth management tools is probably as diverse as the dizzying number of insurance options which are subject to a wide range of influences such as delivery destinations, loss ratios and driver perform-ance to name a few. Sourcing financial planners online to create wealth management portfolios is a good place to start, but these websites are general in their descriptions of the services they provide. Instead, their messages invite prospective clients to set up consulta-tions before advice is given. Still, they do give readers something to think about beforehand. Some advisors draw attention to mistaken assumptions common to many who are new to financial planning. Among them is a lack of understanding the different financial tools available and the results each are designed to achieve. Others include believing that one catch-all financial
