The University of North Georgia was formed through the consolidation of North Georgia College & State University and Gainesville State

College, two of the top-performing schools in the University System of Georgia, in January 2013. Positioned in the fastest-growing

region of the state, UNG comprises four campuses united by a single mission focused on academic excellence and academic and co-

curricular programs that develop students into leaders for a diverse and global society.

The University of North Georgia is a University System of Georgia leadership institution and is The Military College of Georgia. With

more than 16,000 students, the University of North Georgia is the state’s seventh-largest public university. The university offers more

than 100 programs of study ranging from certificate and associates degrees to professional doctoral programs.

The University of North Georgia was ranked No. 22 in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 ranking of public universities in the south.

It is the second oldest public university in the University System of Georgia having been founded in 1873 and is one of only six senior

military colleges in the United States. The average high school grade point of an incoming freshman at UNG is 3.54, the third highest in

the state behind only the University of Georgia and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH GEORGIA

While the University of North Georgia has grown exponentially over the past decade, the city in which it is based still has the small town

charm that makes North Georgia one of the special places in the state of Georgia.

Dahlonega is nestled in the heart of the North Georgia Mountains, just south of the state’s highest peak, Blood Mountain. The town has

a population of just over 5,000, up more than 40 percent from 2000. It was the site of the first major gold rush in the United States

with thousands of men flocking to the city after the discovery of gold in 1828. You can’t miss seeing Dahlonega gold on a visit to the city

as the steeple of UNG’s Price Memorial Hall is coated in gold from the city. You will also see Dahlonega gold on a drive through Atlanta

as it covers the dome of the Georgia State Capitol, a tradition that started in 1958.

The city maintains the charm of a small town but there is plenty to do for students and residents alike, from some of the best outdoor

activities offered in the state to shopping at one of the top outlet destinations in the southeast, the North Georgia Premium Outlets,

located less than 15 minutes away in neighboring Dawsonville. Dahlonega is less than an hour from downtown Atlanta located just over

50 miles north at the end of Georgia 400.

The town has inspired many artists through the years, most famously Zac Brown who grew up in Lumpkin County, and is still considered

the cultural hub of the North Georgia Mountains hosting over 10 festivals each year.

As Corey Smith states in his song about the town, it is easy to feel like you’ve struck gold in Dahlonega.

Home to the University of North Georgia baseball team, Bob Stein Stadiumwas constructed during the fall of 2008 and features a first-class facility forthe Nighthawks. With 500 chair back seats, fans will enjoy a perfect venue forNCAA Baseball. Bob Stein Stadium offers players, fans, and media a beautifulfacility with the backdrop of the Dahlonega mountains. Since the original construction of the baseball complex, the dugouts, field, and amenities have undergone changes and upgrades over the past six seasons. In 2005, themaintenance building was built along the left field fence to house grounds crewequipment and team supplies. A new state of the art scoreboard was addedprior to the 2008 season to complement the matrix board, giving fans statistics and game information. FieldTurf was installed at Bob Stein Stadium in2014 as part of a renovation project to the outdoor facilities at UNG, giving theNighthawks a field to play on regardless of weather conditions. A new MajorLeague quality padded wall was constructed around the entire field after the installation of FieldTurf making the playing surface not only one of the mostbeautiful in the country, but one of the safest to play on as well.

About FieldTurf | FieldTurf was developed and engineered for athletes, by athletes. The company that changed the way athletes view "artificial turf". Before FieldTurf, natural grass was considered by many to be the best solutionfor sports fields around the world - even though it required constant maintenance and could not withstand heavy use. FieldTurf's inventors were nottrying to create a better artificial solution, they were trying to replicate naturalgrass. Throughout the last decade our engineered, infilled artificial turf systems became the first to host two Super Bowls, the World Series, theWorld Baseball Classic, a Major League Soccer Cup final and College Bowlgames from coast to coast. Today, FieldTurf continues to thrive as the globalmarket leader in synthetic sports fields with more than 7,000 fields installed.Cities and schools have been benefitting from our ability to provide the verybest value for the short and long term, allowing organizations at all levels to beable to forecast the amount of money they will save by installing FieldTurf, thesafest, longest lasting and highest performing artificial turf system.
