By the end of the 2014 the One 17 Design Charitable Trust passed the landmark of more than £80,000 worth of donations to local good causes. We were of course delighted when the work of the Trust was recognised at the Examiner Business Awards event in November.

Welcome to ‘Mrs Sunderland’ 2015. This year’s syllabus contains several changes (see below) to reflect the changing needs of our performers.

We are always looking for ideas for new/different classes, workshops and other events. If you have any suggestions please contact me. Please read the syllabus very carefully as there are several changes to age groups and timings from last year, as well as some new classes added. New Classes

Classes 19 & 20 – Piano Performance Assessment 2 classes for people who enjoy playing the piano and would welcome comments on their performance.

Classes 68 & 69 – The Magic of Walt Disney We look forward to hearing a wide range of much loved songs from screen and stage.

Class 101 – Traditional Nursery Rhyme A chance for those in School year 1 or below (not even in school!) to recount their favourite rhyme Main Changes to classes (please see relevant pages for further information)

Percussion and World Drumming classes will be in the Concert Hall on Saturday 21 February.

Performers in ‘open’ classes (classes 24, 31 & 36) may bring their own accompanists.

We have changed the age ranges of the instrumental ensemble classes (classes 46-49). Please read the details of group sizes carefully.

The age range for the Pop Ballad class (class 70) has been changed to include people aged 14 to 21.

The Rose Bowl class (Class 73) introduced last year has been retained but the time allowance has been extended to 9 minutes.

This year there are classes for story and poetry writing (see Classes 117-124) Workshops and Special Events

Battle of the Bands

A new and exciting opportunity for the 2015 Huddersfield Mrs Sunderland Festival. Performing to an audience in Huddersfield Town Hall, successful applicants will be part of a radical departure from the traditional classes associated with the Festival, and will bring a contemporary element which promises an exciting future. Invitations are made to bands of all musical genres – Pop, Rock, Reggae, RnB, Hip – Hop etc. We hope to present an opportunity to welcome a diversity of application, providing equal opportunity for everyone to showcase their talents. There will be no age limit to band members, though attention should be given to the Amateur status clause in the Festival Rules and Regulations. Bands are encouraged to include original material in their programme, although this is not essential. Application will be through submission of a recording, from which selected groups will be chosen to perform at the Festival. Adjudication will be a combination of the opinion of the Festival adjudicator, and the audience response to each performance. Please also see the back page of the entry form booklet in the centre of the syllabus for further details. We hope that this first venture will be the start of an exciting new chapter in the life of the Festival.

Kirklees Young Musician of the Year 2015 The Kirklees Young Musician contest, in association with Kirklees Council and the J W Pearce Prize Trust, will be held on Friday 20 February in the Concert Hall of Huddersfield Town Hall. The contest is for promising musicians between the ages of 16 and 25, including those who may be pursuing a professional career in music. Any of the prizes awarded should be used for their musical development. The winner will perform at the Gala Concert on Saturday 28 February in Huddersfield Town Hall. Full information on this event can be found in the centre of the syllabus.
