New ways to extract underground heat to produce electricity with enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) could be tested at a proposed research field observatory on Newberry Volcano in central Oregon.

A team led by the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has been awarded up to $200,000 to develop plans for a potential field laboratory – called the Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy, also known as FORGE – on the northwest side of Newberry Volcano near La Pine, Oregon.

The Newberry site is one of 10 possible observatory locations awarded a total of $2 million by the Geothermal Technologies Office within DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. PNNL is partnering with Seattle geothermal developer AltaRock Energy Inc. and Oregon State University for the project. Project leaders include PNNL geophysicist Alain Bonneville, AltaRock geologist Trenton Cladouhos and Oregon State University geophysicist Pr. Adam Schultz.

“The Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy will be the first of its kind when it’s built,” Bonneville said. “The world-class research that is planned for the observatory will help the U.S. move from having just 0.4 percent of its electricity come from geothermal resources to as much as 4 percent by 2025. We are excited to have the opportunity to bring such important research to Newberry Volcano and the region.”

“AltaRock Energy has led an innovative EGS Demonstration at Newberry for the last five years and successfully created an EGS reservoir in 2014 using our multi-zone stimulation technology” said Trenton Cladouhos, Senior VP for Research & Development for AltaRock and lead geoscientist for AltaRock’s current geothermal project. “We are very excited to see more

funding dedicated to developing and testing a wider variety of geothermal technologies, and are very pleased to see it located next to our soon-to-be-finished project.”

The observatory will allow researchers and developers to test more efficient, less costly and potentially ground-breaking ways to extract underground heat where conventional geothermal power generation is not possible. Conventional geothermal power makes use of existing hydrothermal fields that are usually sited where natural circulation brings hot water or steam to the surface or close to the surface of the earth. Wells drilled into these locations have enough permeability that the wells produce steam or hot water at sufficient rates to spin power-producing turbines. A much larger geothermal resource are the hot, rocks 2-4 miles below the surface that can be reached by today’s drilling technology in much of the US.. Enhanced geothermal energy involves pumping water underground to create or enhance cracks in these hot rocks that will then allow circulated water to extract heat from the rock mass and then flow to a production well. Because hot rock at depth are widespread, DOE estimates enhanced geothermal systems could allow the U.S. to generate as much as 100 gigawatts of renewable energy, or enough to power about 100 million homes.

For the project’s initial year-long phase, the team will conduct a detailed analysis of the Newberry ’suitability as a geothermal observatory site, and develop scientific, management, environmental, safety, and public outreach plans for how the observatory will operation Deschutes County. In 2016, DOE will select the three of the initial projects to obtain the permits and gather the additional information needed to prepare their sites. Just one location will ultimately be chosen to house the observatory.

This project will extend ongoing geothermal efforts at the Newberry Volcano. In 2010, AltaRock Energy

Inc. received a 5 year, $21.5 million matching grant from the Department of Energy to demonstrate an engineered geothermal system at hot, dry well drilled there in 2008. Since 2012 Oregon State University and partners have received more than $1M in funding from the Department of Energy to develop new geophysical methods for continuous monitoring of fluid circulation and related processes within the Newberry Volcano EGS demonstration site.

A new senior is anyone who gets AARP info at age 50 and still has an aged parent that is an old senior. We are an active group, involved in community affairs and busy getting ready to retire- or not- and we love our life! We are young enough to enjoy our free time and old enough to have perspective on life and the importance of each new day. Life as a New Senior makes us part of a really large demographic that has say in what our country does, what advertisers sell and how we will live in the future.

I look back to the day when my AARP magazine first arrived. I thought it was a mistake, but I looked through it, realizing immediately that a couple of my idols were part of the magazine as newly turned 50 folks. I looked into the different programs and insurance, travel deals and phone deals to see if they were good- and they were. I learned that the magazine was really all about me and others in my age group and I found it fascinating that we were joining the Europeans in celebrating people of age – for the first time.

Since, that year, we now have a woman running for president and more in office and on the Supreme Court. We also have women planning TV and Movies and older actresses showing up on the small and large screens. There are still opportunities to grow- just not

in a job because they really do hire young folks for lots of the openings.

So what else has changed? I have been thinking about another year similar to this one when I lived in The Dalles as a young girl and the weather was hotter than it had ever been and we had to go to school at 7 AM and get out by noon to avoid the over 100 degree heat of the day. Schools had no air conditioning and they made do. We loved that hot year as children- (we never thought about the consequences of forest fires in the back yard or drought for the crops in the area) and we got to play for a few extra hours every day and the gang loved it! We are facing that same kind of heat again 55 years later and I hope we are prepared for what comes with the early spring nice days leading to hot summer days with no extra water.

At least we are old enough to understand our responsibility for monitoring water use, clearing our land for fire prevention and sharing our natural resources with the future generations. In the meantime, New Seniors, this is a great time in your life!

We have the time and still have the energy to make something good happen every day- and with luck we will be here for a long time with plenty of friends to share with and support. Cheers!

REACH OF CHILDREN.” Later in the interview, Randy of Green Knottz talked about his

ethics and morals of running a business like this. He stated that he likes his location because it’s out of public view, away from kids, and community members that do not want to see it. He also said he does not want the image of cannabis leaves on signs out in the community for people and kids to see and that he runs a very clean and professional business; especially one under such scrutiny. After the interview we expressed our gratitude of working together and how interesting this subject has become.

Green Knottz is making History in our great city of La Pine by opening the first resource center for O.M.M.P. (Oregon Medical Marijuana Program) patients in La Pine; and now opening the first Medical Marijuana Dispensary in La Pine. Some might say they are the pioneers of the, “Cannabis Business,” in our city. The resource center opened in July of 2014, providing various services like reviewing medical records, making appointments for patients to get there medical marijuana cards, and educating the community on the vast subject of Medical Cannabis. Now that the moratorium in La Pine is up; Green Knottz closed the compassion center and is opening a fully compliant Medical Marijuana Dispensary. Green Knottz Dispensary owners are Randy Huff and his brother Donald Huff. They’re dispensary is due to open mid-May of 2015 in La Pine; fully licensed by local and state jurisdictions.

There is nothing like a tasty lunch on a day when you are working hard to help at a Homeowner Build Site!

Every Friday and Saturday, the people who volunteer at the Terry Park build sites get a lunch served at noon. The meals are always different and are home cooked offerings designed to give the workers a balanced meal and some carb loading to keep them going through the rest of their day. This month they have had Clam chowder, Italian Mac and Cheese, Minestrone and Chicken Gemelli soups, fresh breads, biscuits, cookies and cupcakes and Chili. If you are vegan or vegetarian there are special dishes just for you. On Saturdays there is a fresh breakfast pastry or coffee cake/muffins, too!

There is nothing like sharing a good meal together to form strong bonds for continuing the great volunteer work and Newberry Habitat believes that the crews that eat together work better together. There will be a long list of new dishes on

the horizon and developing healthy recipes is the focus of the contributing chef each week.

Want to help build La Pine one home at a time? You can sign up to help by contacting Dan Varcoe by phone 541-771-9177 or you can stop by the ReStore to get a volunteer application. Work starts every Fri and Sat at 9 AM and crew work until mid-afternoon (You do not have to stay all day if you have a conflict.

We are looking for a large group of volunteers to help on WOMEN BUILD SATURDAY on May 9th. That day registration is at Mitts Court at 8:30 AM (2 blocks north of Midstate) with a Photo Op at 9 AM for the group.

Bring up to a simmer and season with oregano leaves. Add the cooked meat at the end of the process with juices and use some of the reserved cooking liquid to get the browned fond out of the meat pan. Add this to the pot. When you get it just about “Tasty-right” add more cooking liquid to add to the pot. Simmer and turn off, put the pot in a cooler and reheat again the next day after the flavors have married. Serve this chili with chopped fresh onion, green onions and grated cheese. It is good with tortillas, rolls,

sliced bread and a bowl of greens. (Taco salad works well and the chili can poured over the greens, too.) This recipe will serve twenty easily and it freezes well.

COCONUT CRISPS: 2 cups butter, three large eggs and 3 cups of brown sugar- beat until smooth. Add 1 teas soda, 1 teas salt and 2 Teas vanilla. Sift three cups of flour into a bowl. Add one package of sweetened flake coconut and mix with the flour. Try a 12 oz. bag of mini chocolate chips or butterscotch chips, too. Mix dry with wet and scoop out a 2 ounce portion, pushing down slightly with a floured glass. Bake at 350 for about 12 minutes until set and lightly browned. Cool on racks and pack for the dessert to serve with coffee or water for lunch or dinner. If you add a little cinnamon it works well to add it if you like.

We of a certain age tend to live in total denial of the reality of our last years. We dread the thought of losing our independence, giving up driving, being a burden to our families. Nor have we heard anyone state that they are looking forward to living in a “home.” I am guilty of all of these thoughts. My experiences with my aunt in Southern California were dismal. Big, bright, colorfully-decorated places with bulletin boards full of events and activities that most of the residents could not begin to accomplish and strict visitng hours that prevented family members from observing the day-to-day workings. After moving to La Pine, I dreaded the occasional trip to Prairie House.

That has changed since I became involved in a special project here. As I’ve become acquainted with some of the employees and residents, I see Prairie House dilligently working to provide a small, warm, comfortable and friendly place for their residents in what may be their last home. And I see the sparkle and quick smiles of the residents who are dealing with what age has brought them in the best way they know how. Hence, “The Prairie House Corner.” Each month we will spotlight an employee or resident and invite you to share their journies with them.

Meet Jonathan Mitchell, Prairie House Maintenance Supervisor for the last two years. His job is to keep everything running, operating, moving and flowing, and he does it with a big smile. His previous work experience was in the grocery business,

construction and furniture repair. There is one thing he found at Prairie House that he did not find in previous workplaces. If he goes over and beyond, it is appreciated, not expected. Jonathan also instigated and oversees a program whereby special needs young adults, in cooperation with the La Pine Transitional School and Full Access, are given an opportunity to experience and learn independence helping with tasks. This is a win-win situation for both Prairie House and the kids and is how I became involved.

Jonathan grew up in Roseburg and Portland Oregon, although he did attend La Pine High School his senior year. His family had been coming here off and on since 1992, and he loved all the outdoor activities. He met his future wife, Jennifer, in Portland; they married in 2005 and moved to La Pine. Jennifer is a pharmacy tech at St Charles in Bend; they have one son, Mason, age 8. Jonathan and Jennifer work together as partners to build a strong family life and raise Mason to become a participating member of society. This is accomplished by open communication, and no one is allowed to to go to bed angry or mad, good advice for all of us. The family spends time playing in the water, hunting, fishing and camping. Jonathan’s very favorite hobby is to build things with wood. He is a special young man with a strong work ethic and a big heart.

Interview with Robert Ray, Position 5, Candidate for Park and Rec Board of Directors Why are you running for the Park and Rec Board? Well, I’ve enjoyed the 4 years I have

been there so far. There are a lot of things that still need to be done and I would like to see some of them completed.

What is the major focus of the Park and Rec Board at this time? Getting to a sustainable funding source. Some programs are doing well, the Hub is at 80% and the sports program at 70%. We have to come up with some way to get additional funding to develop the new properties that we have acquired.

What are the biggest challenges facing La Pine Park and Rec at this time? Getting water to irrigate the Finley Butte Fields. The City has been generous so far, but the water needs to be available to new residences as some point, as people move in. We need to get our own water rights to do that.

What are the plans for the future of La Pine Park and Rec District? The District’s Long Range Planning Retreat is in July. The Board as a whole will be looking at a lot of opportunities and it will be a Board decision as to the priorities that are selected.

How has the Board reached out and partnered with other community groups and organizations? We have built a tremendous relationship with Sunriver Resort, and various businesses such as with the Russells and Peak Performance has been great! We are trying to get more community collaborators to come up with ideas to work with us on the development of the 150 acre of recreational land. We had a recent group of community leaders that gathered in the past couple weeks to start a conversation of how we can work together on the project.

What is the proper function of the Board of Directors? The Board has the initial power and control, but then they give out power to the Director or Manager to control the day to day operation. The Board sets policy and direction, you don’t want to get involved in the day to day, micro-managing of staff. It’s difficult and sometimes it is necessary to jump in, but typically it is the Board and not any Board member on their own that makes policy decisions.

Final Thoughts: I think we have a Jewel with Karen Miller. She started with a difficult task and she has done very well.

Interview with Park and Recreation Candidate Toby Wilson Position 5Why are you running for the Park and Rec Board? “I have been very active in my

community. One of the benefits in living in La Pine is that local folks can get involved and make a difference. In my past board experiences I have been asked to serve as Vice Chair or Chair in almost every occasion. Other board members appreciate my organizational skills and the ability to accomplish tasks. The ability to ask tough questions and to get at the critical answers needed to move forward. As I see it the current park board needs some help in those areas. Some tough questions need to be asked and answered concerning the budget, board operating procedures and board governance policy.”

What is the major focus of the Park and Rec Board at this time? “First and foremost it should be the budget. We have to show the taxpayers of the district that we can live within our means. With roughly $200,000 a year in property tax revenue and a $300,000 a year budget we need to evaluate our other sources of income or make some hard choices we cannot mismanage the budget by planning for grant dollars that we are not following up on. We cannot ask more money from existing taxpayers or try to add new taxpayers to the district to cover for board policy and budgeting mistakes. Until we have justified the money we have with programs and facilities people reasonably expect, we have to live within our current means.”

What are the biggest challenges facing La Pine Park and Rec at this time. Long term planning. “I would ask some detailed questions about the budget. What is our program participation? And what is the budget for that individual program? Are the fee structures reasonable for the program expense and service provided? I would also ask some tough questions about long term planning. Are we ready for this yet? What is our immediate needs and have we met them? And, who should be at the table to discuss long term facility use and development?”

What are the plans for the future of La Pine Park and Rec District? That needs to be decided. I think it’s time for fresh thoughts and new energy. Parks and Rec can do wonderful things in their communities; can create a quality of life that attracts new residents and businesses to help us prosper. But

New Chamber member, Jose Luis, owner of Los Tres Caballos, took on preparing lunches for the 4th 5 for 5 luncheon about Community Health Care on the 23rd at LPCC. Jumping in to make meals for 60 plus people at one time is always fun and Luis lived up to the challenge. He put together, rice, beans, chips and salsa, Colorado and Verde sauce and then? Four kinds of enchiladas smothered in cheese and a container of Pico de Gallo to top it all off. (Hamburger, pulled beef, Chicken in red and in Verde sauce).

Since participants get to eat first, there were lots of happy folks when they saw the buffet laid out just for them. (Asking questions on a full tummy is always a good experience.) We welcome Jose Luis and his Restaurant as the newest member in the Chamber and thank him for his wonderful lunch at the 5 for 5.

This 5 for 5 Discussion was composed of a panel of experts made up of Charla DeHate from the Community Health Center, Jane Smiley, Deschutes County Mental Health Services, Mike Supkis discussed the LP Fire District involvement with handling medical emergencies and John Weinsheim from St Charles Hospitals, each speaking about what is happening in the South County area.

The Clinic has opened student and family services clinic days at La Pine High School and at Gilchrist and soon they are adding a Friday for the Three Rivers students and families in Sunriver. The LCHC also has contracted services

with the Deschutes County Behavioral Health department and they have clinicians and referral services open at the clinic and will soon staff the South County building offices with a clinician. There are three new providers coming in July, bringing their provider number up to 12. Biggest news: The clinic is open from 8-5 Monday through Friday and 9 to 1 on Saturday for regular appointments. It also has a daily walk-in program for patients from 8:30-7 PM Monday through Friday. There is also a transportation voucher system now available to patients so they can get services in the area.

Deschutes County has added staff and clinicians to handle Mental Health concerns in the area. Jane Smiley addressed services. There are nine counselors and they have individual, family and group programs available. They work in concert with the LP Community Health Center and the schools to assist clients. As a representative of the county, Jane Smiley works most of the time behind the scenes working to get support services.

The ST. Charles Administrator discussed what the board is considering for La Pine. “Nothing is set,” John Weinsheim explained. “The board decides these matters” He told about how the hospital group always works with existing medical providers in an area when they open up services. There have been careful considerations for a new clinic and what it would offer, but no final word has been determined.

Mike Supkis had the most revealing

information of the day. With the numbers of medical related calls 4-5 per day- that are responded to and the cost of the transport of patients who are determined to be in need of transport figured at the cost of the transports, more that equals three times the cost of opening an Urgent Care facility here. (Note: when the community began discussing having an Urgent Care center, the costs were over $350K per year to add it to the existing clinic. LPRFD Costs are over a million to respond and transport. Also, Mike told the group that about 25% of the calls they respond to were from people with no transportation- or they were unable to transport themselves to get

help) “Don’t get me wrong, these people that call for medical assistance need help,” Chief Supkis told us. “When we have an ambulance call to handle a non- threatening emergency, it often interferes with the next call that is received and there is a delay in reaching that emergency” The community needs to be aware of how much the Fire District is doing to answer these calls and decide what kind of solution would be more economical and efficient.

The next talk is set for May and we are taking reservations! 541-536-9771. Call today and get ready to learn about the natural resources and the arts in South County!

I also think municipalities can become stifling. Too much taxes, too much regulation and too much administration. I want to help in the development of the first and the restriction of the last.”

What is the proper function of the Board of Directors? “I have been a La Pine resident for a long time; 15 years. I have been active in the community and have gained a lot of knowledge about volunteer boards. I think most volunteers do so with good intentions, including the current Park Board members. “I would ask some detailed questions about the budget. What is our program participation? And what is the budget for that individual program? Are the fee structures reasonable for the program expense and service provided?

Interview with Park and Recreation Candidate Gary Gordon Position 4Why are you running for the Park and Rec Board? I love this community and cherish its

special quality of life. When I was able to retire, I took advantage of the opportunity to take a very active role in the organizations, events and activities that help make up the fabric of our community. I was elected to the Board of Directors for the La Pine Chamber of Commerce. I soon realized that there needed to be much better communication among and between all of the community organizations and it was very important to keep that dialog heathy and productive. So, for the past 18 months I have regularly attended the Board meetings of the Park and Rec Board as well as all of the City Council meetings. It was obvious that the Park and Rec Board suffered from significant dysfunction in many areas. And these issues caused me great concern. I knew I could get things back on the right track if I could be elected to the Board. My whole professional career has given me 40 years of successful problem solving. I have the skills, dedication and community caring to make the Board function properly for the benefit of the entire community.

What is the major focus of the Park and Rec Board at this time? There are 4 areas of greatest concern: First, the budget and budget oversight; the second is intelligent planning with the resources they presently have; third would be the Board’s failure to maintain positive relationships with many of the other community groups and organizations; and finally would be the Board’s lack of understanding of its proper role.

What are the biggest challenges facing La Pine Park and Rec at this time? Although the budget is the primary planning document for the current fiscal year, the District has an obligation to intelligently plan for the future. Planning takes on many aspects including the repair and possible renovation of some park buildings to make them able to be safely used again. It deals with water issues to keep the ball fields watered. It deals with how existing buildings and structures can enjoy multiple uses for the entire community. It also deals with the very large project – the 150 acres to the west of the City along 6th Street that was deeded to the County by BLM and then transferred to Park and Rec for the purpose of developing further recreation opportunities for the community. The Board has literally done nothing as far as planning to move this forward. Proper planning requires the gathering of facts, determining of issues, evaluating options, obtaining community input, setting up realistic timelines and budget considerations, and then taking all available steps to achieve those goals. I understand that proper planning is not easy, but it is absolutely required.

Our apologize. Kyle Williams is also running for Position 4 on La Pine Parks and Recreation District Board was unable to be reached prior to Press Time.

How has the Board reached out and partnered with other community groups and organizations? The present Board does not seem to value the efforts of other community groups and organizations because they do not value the tremendous contributions to our community that these groups give. Too many hard feelings have been generated by the Board, and unless new leadership is in place, this crisis of negativity will deteriorate and become even worse. The Board needs to rebuild these relationships by making our community partners a positive and valued resource. Repairing these relationships will once again open up honest dialog which is crucial, particularly for the planning process. Repairing the bad feelings is not a budget item. It costs nothing. It is an attitude adjustment.

What is the proper function of the Board of Directors? The Board is charged with planning and overseeing the budget, and with making District policy and seeing that it is carried out. It does not and cannot micro-manage. The Board is entitled to rely on the District’s Executive Director to stay within the budget and to carry out District policy. A strong, honest relationship between the Board and a well-informed Executive Director is one of the strongest keys for the orderly progression of District Business. With all of this, the Board must find a way to work together. Opposing views need to be heard, considered and honored. The meetings need to be conducted with respect for other Board members and respect for the public attending the meeting. Respect, is once again, not a budget item. Not having it is very costly in the long run. Finally, the Board needs to be transparent and needs to find ways to keep District residents properly informed of the District’s business. After all, the District belongs to the people within the District.

Final Thoughts: I most definitely look forward to serving on the Park and Rec Board, so that the District can regain its place as a valued part of our community fabric.

To our patrons and friends, They say change is good and I believe this

is true. Over the years we have watched Sabai change in many ways, and this spring is no exception. Sabai started as a very small single massage therapist’s practice and yoga studio in a strip mall. Eventually we had multiple alternative healthcare providers practicing at Sabai and soon we brought Zumba and Kickboxing to LaPine. TKD moved in from Sunriver and eventually we moved into our own building, increased our classes offered to over a dozen different types and began housing an entire dance studio. Sabai has been an incredible ride, and I believe a great attribute to the La Pine community. I am so proud to have played a part in its existence over the past 5 1/2 years.

You may have noticed a “For Sale” sign in our yard. It’s true; the building is for sale. Sabai has basically ran as a co-op for the last few years, but even a co-op needs somebody to bond it together. In the past that has been a roll I played. But due to unforeseen circumstances, I have decided to no longer continue in this roll. Some of our instructors are preparing to move and experiencing their own change of course, and there are other possible changes occurring with the members of our staff. And so we have decided to disband. For the time being, most of us are planning to stay in the building and continuing to offer our services with no interruptions. Some may move to a new location, and some will no longer be practicing. I cannot answer all your questions as of yet, but I can tell you that there will be definite changes in the classes offered and the payment structure after June 1st. How that will look exactly is still to be determined.

I would just like to add that this decision was an extremely difficult one to make. 10 years ago I would never have believed I would own my own business or be a massage therapist. I am often amazed at the journey massage and Sabai have brought me through. I have met some AMAZING people and

made some very dear friends. I have laughed with many of you, and cried with you too. I will continue doing massage here in La Pine - that, along with my family, is where I am putting my focus. While change is good, it is rarely easy. This change hurts my heart, but in the end I know it will bring opportunity and growth to all it touches. I think I can speak for all of us at Sabai when I say we are so incredibly honored and privileged to have worked with you. You have enriched our lives more than you can know.

Sincerely, Jennifer Slater, LMT

On Thursday, June 18 at 7 pm the Sunriver Anglers Club will present a significant program illustrating the current state of the upper Deschutes River and the efforts being undertaken to restore stream flow and improve water quality in the river basin.

The program will include a video presentation by cinematographer, Scott Nelson, who has created a powerful video which describes the current condition of the river and how this came to be. We will also have a visual presentation by Jason Gritzner, USFS Hydrologist, showing the conditions of the river and the adjacent stream banks at different stages of the draw-down which annually occurs when upstream reservoir storage cycles begin.

Following the two visual presentations, Tod Heisler, Executive Director of the Deschutes River Conservancy, will describe the status of efforts now underway to improve the river.

We invite not only the anglers in the community but all those who have an interest in the health of the river and the upper basin environment to attend this meeting.

The Deschutes River is perhaps the most important feature of the Sunriver and adjacent community, and this program will enable all those who have a stake in the attractions of our area to be well informed about the current state of affairs and the plans for the future.

The meeting will be held at the SHARC in Sunriver. For additional information concerning the June 18 program, contact Ron Angell at 541 593 3242. For information concerning the Sunriver Anglers Club, see www.sunriveranglers.org.

Memorial Day weekend the Village at Sunriver is filled fun family activities with Kids Day on Saturday, May 23th and Dog Day and the Bark for LIfe 5K Poker Dog Walk / Run on Sunday May 24th.

The 7th annual Kids Day in May will take place on Saturday May 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include games and activities that appeal to all age groups. Kids will be able to get up close with their favorite animal at a petting zoo, jump to their heart’s content on inflatable bounce houses, or challenge themselves with the rock wall and obstacle course. They can also get their face painted, enjoy the lovable Chizzy the Clown, meet fire

fighters and police officer while touring fire truck and police cruisers; and so much more!

Dog Day in May is a popular event with local and traveling dogs, and their human companions. Start the day with the Bark of Life 5k Poker Dog Walk/Run; then join the canine festivities at the Village. Enter your dog in the amateur dog talent contest, see dog demos, or pamper your dog with a doggie pet-icure. Numerous dog related vendors will be on hand offering a range of canine products and services. The Humane Society of Central Oregon will offer dogs for adoption so families can bring home a

new companion. Dog Day in May takes place Sunday May 24 , 11am to 3 p.m.

Please join the Village at Sunriver for these two great family events, plus shopping, dining and quality entertainment over the weekend.

Kids Day and Dog Day is organized by Alpine Entertainment and proceeds to go support local non-profit organizations in South Deschutes county.

For more information go to www.villageatsunriver.com.
