2015 Fall Elections• All seven statewide and 144 legislative seats are up for

reelection this fall. • Qualifying for all offices will be held September 8-10.• General election is on October 24; runoff will be held on

November 21.• In the Senate:

• 7 senators are term-limited• 24 senators have no current opposition

• In the House: • 14 members are term-limited, and eight more are leaving• 60 members have no current opposition

Why would anyone want to be a Louisiana legislator or governor?• Immediately upon taking office, they will face a deficit of at

least $250 million in the current fiscal year, which ends June 30, 2016.

• Under the best scenario, the state will start the next fiscal year with a $700 million hole.

• In addition, the state faces a structural deficit of $1 billion for the following four years.

• The new administration and Legislature will be faced with the task of cutting additional services and raising additional revenue.
