Ridgefield Arena Hunter Pace Saturday October 11, 2015 What is a Hunter Pace? A Hunter Pace derives from the sport of foxhunting, and is a fun timed event with riders trying to achieve the “optimum time” of a set course. “Optimum time” is determined by a test team of riders riding the course before the day of the event. Teams of two riders will follow a flagged course over terrain, which is meant to simulate the riding conditions encountered during a foxhunt when following hounds through hunt country, along wooded trails, up and down hills and crossing creeks. Although jumps are found along the course, taking them is optional for participants. Hounds are not used for this event. A prize will be awarded to the team closest to the optimum time, whether over or under, and they will be declared the winner. Two Divisions: Hunt or Hilltopper 1.) Hunt Division: Riders will have the option to jump the jumps throughout the course. 2.) Hilltopper Division: Riders will not jump any of the jumps found throughout the course. A team can have one or both divisions of riders on a team. What is a Poker Run? A Poker Run has a team of two riders that follow a flagged course stopping at different stations along the course collecting poker chips and or cards. Teams will collect the chips or cards and at the end of the course, the team of riders will display their cards and or chips playing for the best hand. The best hand wins a prize. What is the Obstacle Course? One course & 10 obstacles, completion of obstacles & time wins. What to wear for the Hunter Pace and Poker Run? Casual riding attire, please be prepared to ride in all weather conditions. The Hunt Division rider’s will be requested to wear protective riding helmets. The Hunter Pace & Obstacle Course registration starts at 10:00 AM. Obstacle Course will start at 10:00am followed by the Halloween Costume Contest. The first Hunter Pace/Poker Run teams will start the course at 11:00 AM. All additional teams will go out in 5 – 10 minute intervals to spread out the teams on the course. All teams will need to be prepared to start at the teams assigned start time. All horses must have a current coggins for review by the Ridgefield Arena staff at the time of registration. Walk-ins welcome but will be placed at the end of the day after pre-registrants. You must own or lease a horse to participate in this event.
