So you’re thinking about going to summer camp, huh? This guide has everything you need to know to plan your adventure!

Camp Molly Lauman is in Scioto County, in southern Ohio. We’ve been running Girl Scout summer camp there since 1929, so we have a rich heritage of encouraging girls to try new things, practice new found skills, and make lifelong memories. Resident camp (i.e. sleepaway camp) gives you the opportunity to do something special this summer. You’ll make new friends and have a lot of fun, all while gaining independence and building character within a safe and supportive environment (your folks will like that part).

Come camp with us

If you’ve completed grades K-12, Camp Molly Lauman has a camp program for you. (If you’re not a Girl Scout, all you have to do is pay an extra $15 membership fee.) We offer programs for all interests – from swimming, arts, and horseback riding, to cool different camps like mysteries, spa programs, and camps based on your favorite books. Most girls come to camp by themselves, but you can sign up to bunk with one of your friends, too.

We encourage you to talk to your family when deciding on a resident camp session. Camp is most successful when adults and girls make the decision jointly, taking the expectations of both into careful consideration. We know you’ll have the experience of a lifetime exploring the woods and trying new activities. We can’t wait to see you at camp this summer!

• Swimming• Arts and crafts• Nature exploration• Cookouts• Campfires

• Singing songs• Playing games• Making new friends• Badge activities• Outdoor adventures

Plus, tons of free-choice activities are available for each group to do together. Camp counselors will help girls plan their schedule on the first night of camp. Girls could pick group activities such as:

CAMP ACTIVITIES

WHERE GIRLS SLEEPOne of the things that makes camp special is the outdoorsy appeal. Camp is definitely rustic, yet totally awesome. You’ll stay in a platform tent, cabin, or yurt with other girls who have all signed up for the same camp program.

Platform tents are heavy canvas structures with wooden floors and four beds. Open flaps allow for light and a breeze.

Cabins have lights, screened windows, and four beds.

Yurts are a cool cross between tents and cabins with ceiling fans, lights, screened windows, and 4 sets of bunk beds. A few programs stay in our lodge, which is an open room with folding cots. Check the program descriptions to see where each group is scheduled to stay.

Each unit has pit latrines, a hand washing station, and a picnic shelter. A central shower house is available for all girls to use. In case of severe weather, indoor shelter is available.

CAMP STAFFOur staff members go through an intense background check, selection, and training process. Many staff members are aspiring teachers, outdoor educators, and former campers. They come from all over Ohio, the United States, and the world to work here!

MEALSMost meals are served family style in the camp dining hall. We also do campfire cookouts where you’ll help plan and prepare the meal. Meals are kid-friendly and healthy. We prepare many dishes from scratch which allows us to easily accommodate most common allergies and dietary restrictions.

Typical meals include homemade pizza, cheese quesadillas with tomato soup, and breakfast burritos. If you’re a picky eater, don’t worry! We always have a salad bar and sandwich station available.

BRING A FRIEND!You can request ONE buddy to bunk with during your time at camp. Requests for multiple buddies will not be honored. To be bunk buddies, you and your friend must be registered for the same program and you both must request each other by name, not troop number. Why just one buddy? Most campers stay in four-person tents or cabins. We do not allow groups of three to request each other because that leaves one girl in the tent/cabin who may feel left out. Besides, part of the fun of camp is making new friends, and that’s hard to do when you’re hanging out with the girls that you already know.

And don’t worry if you have more than one friend coming to camp with you. You can still hang out with all of your friends, new and old, during most of the day time activities, like swimming, meals, and game time.

Bring a buddy who is new toGirl Scouts and you’ll both geta special bandana as a gift!

…I would stay all year if I could.

Want a camp experience that’s close to home, but where you don’t have to spend the night? Day camp is a fantastic opportunity for you to experience the great outdoors in a five-day camp session that’s fun, affordable, and close to home. Summer sleuths will learn investigation and crime solving skills, while enjoying all the fun of traditional camp, like exploring nature, participating in flag ceremonies, cooking outdoors, making crafts, and much more! With seventeen different locations and nine weeks to choose from, we hope that something will fit your needs and busy summer schedule. Registration opens on April 1, 2015.

Which day camp is best for you?We offer day camps throughout the council; as far north as Wooster, as far south as Rio Grande, as far east as Dillon State Park and as far west as Paint Creek State Park. We also utilize many of the metro parks such as Blendon Woods, Slate Run, and Christmas Run Park not to mention our own camps-Crooked Lane, Ken-Jockety, and Beckoning Trails. Cost for a week of day camp ranges between $35-$95 and depends on whether it is an all day camp or a twilight camp in addition to what is offered.

Adults, can you spare five days this summer to make a difference in the lives of girls? Day camp depends on dedicated volunteers to have nine successful, fun-filled weeks each year. The number of girls who can be accepted to day camp directly correlates to the number of adult volunteers. As a volunteer, you’ll receive training to become familiar with the

program, learn basic outdoor skills, and receive a day of orientation at the site by the day camp director. Please consider volunteering so we can provide as many opportunities as possible for every girl who wants to attend! Check out all of the day camp opportunities at www.gsoh.org.
