HALA SWEARINGEN, Department of Visual ArtsAsatenure-trackfacultymember,AssistantProfessorSwearingenhascurated,organized,andinstalledannualIllustrationstudentexhibitionsintheTitanStudentUnion,VAWest,andPollakLibrarygalleries.Theselabor-intensiveexhibitionsaresignificantprofessionaldevelopmentopportunitiesforartstudents,teachingthemhowtocollaborateonamajorpublicproject.ShehasgenerouslyservedontheUniversity’sLibraryCommittee;Department’sCurriculum,GraduateReview,GraduateStudent,andScholarshipCommittees;andparticipatedinoutreachandcurricularevents,suchastheCreativeTalentNetworkAnimationExpo,DreamWorksDreamCrit,andWelcometoFullertonDays.

MIHAYLO COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS

FATAMA ALALI, Department of AccountingDr. Alali serves as the graduate advisor for the MS Accountancy program. Her responsibilities include setting up regularinformationsessionsfortheMSAprogram,readingallapplicantfiles,makingthedecisiontoadmit,advisingandapprovingeachstudent’sprogramandarrangingthegraduatestudentreceptioneachsemester.Sheisworkingwithabout 200 graduate students. In addition, Dr. Alali is serving on the Department Graduate Curriculum Committee, the College Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and the College Senate. Dr. Alali is also the head of the Internal Auditing Association(IIA)fortheDepartmentandhasappliedforCSUFtobecomeanInformationSystemsAuditandControl(ISACA)chapter.ShewassuccessfulinCSUF’sreceivingchapterstatusthispastyear.Dr.AlaliisanactiveparticipantintheBrownBagresearchseminarandtheSCARF(SouthernCaliforniaAccountingResearchForum).Sheservesasanassistant marshal for graduation and participates in Welcome to Fullerton Day.

CATHERINE ATWONG, Department of MarketingFrom2012to2014,Dr.Atwongconsistentlyworkedaboveandbeyondthedepartmentexpectationtopreparestudentsforcareersuccess.Tohelpstudentsgaintechnicalexperience,shesupervised290undergraduatestudentswhoconducted74professionalonlinemarketingprojectsforbusinessesandnon-profitsthatsherecruitedthroughheralumniconnections.Herstudentscontributemarketingexpertisetolocalbusinesses,connecttoalumni,andaugmentthereputationoftheDepartmentandCollege.Hereffortbroughtinover$18,000externalfundingtosupportstudentlearning.From2013to2014, she supervised over 200 students to gain professional experience in social media campaigns by serving the CSUF MarketingCommunity(students,alumni,andprospectivestudents).From2013to2014,shementoredfiveundergraduatestudents,includingunderrepresentedstudents,fromstudentclub(AMA)toconductextra-curricularresearch.TwostudentswereacceptedforresearchpresentationintheSouthernCaliforniaConferenceforUndergraduateResearchin2014.

RAHUL BHASKAR, Department of Information Systems and Decision SciencesDr.Bhaskarhasconsistentlyandextraordinarilyservedstudents,faculty,andourcommunityforthelast3years.Inadditiontohisnormalduties,hehasbeendirectingacenterofexcellence(CenterforInformationTechnologyandBusinessAnalytics)thathasorganizedtrainingandknowledgesharingeventswithprominentcompaniesinthefieldofBusinessAnalytics,MarketingAnalytics,anddatavisualization.Inworkshopssponsoredbythecenter,facultyfromacrosstheUSAattendedandinterfacedwithCSUFfacultyandstudents.Dr.Bhaskarhasbeenholdingspecialtraining classes for students in business analytics every Saturday. His mentorship and teaching in these classes has been instrumentalinplacingourstudentsinmanyrewardingjobsatemployersincludingKaiserPermanenteandMemorialHealthCare.Hehasproposedacertificateinhealthcareanalyticswhichaddressestheneedsofanimportantindustrythat is seeing generational reforms and changes.

AJAY BHOOTRA, Department of FinanceAjayBhootraisAssistantProfessorintheDepartmentofFinance.HereceivedhisPh.D.inFinancefromVirginiaTechin2008.Hisresearchinterestsareinareasofinvestmentsandbehavioralfinance.Hehaspublishedanumberofpapersinpeer-reviewedjournals,includingFinancial Management and the Journal of Financial Markets.ProfessorBhootraservesontheAppliedSecurityAnalysisProgram’ExecutiveBoard.Thisverysuccessfulnewtwocoursesequenceallowsstudentstomanagerealmoneytradingstocks,subjecttooversightbytheExecutiveBoard.Thisoversightrequiresboardmemberstoreviewandapprovealltransactionsproposedbythestudentteamspriortotradeexecution.Thisisessentiallya24*7commitmenttoquicklyreviewandevaluatestudentwork.

JOHN BRADLEY JACKSON, Department of ManagementJohnBradleyJacksonisaFulltimeLecturerintheManagementDepartment.JacksonisalsotheDirectoroftheCenterforEntrepreneurship,theSmallBusinessInstitute(SBI)andthenewlyformedCSUFStartupIncubator.Alldeploya“HighImpact”learningmodelthatengagesundergraduateandgraduatestudentswithlocalbusinesses.AstrongproponentofcombiningBusinessandSTEM,Jacksonisco-principalinvestigatorforaNationalScienceFoundationgrantcalledI-TEST;this$1,000,000granthascreatedanafterschoolprogramatAnaheimmiddleschoolswhichencouragesSTEMeducationandentrepreneurship.Jacksonisastrongbelieverinbusinessincubation,whichleveragesCSUFSTEMandbusinessgraduatesandfaculty.HebeganapilotprogramwhichhaslaunchedamixedusebusinessincubatorinPlacentia,California.Theincubatormentorsfledglingbusinessesastheytestandlaunchtheirbusinessconcepts.Jackson’sotherserviceactivitiesinclude:• Jacksonconductstwoall-collegeevents:TheBusinessPlanCompetitionandTheCSUFFastPitch.• AcademicAdvisorforCSUFEntrepreneurshipStudents,2009topresent• MentoratMihayloLeadershipAcademyforFulltimeMBAStudents,2011topresent• FacultyAdvisortothestudentClub“EntrepreneurshipSociety”,2009topresent• BoardMemberatSmallBusinessDevelopmentCorporation,2012topresent

WEI (ALAN) JIANG, Department of AccountingDr. Jiang serves the Department as the Chair of the Search committee. In this position, he is responsible for screening applicants for faculty positions in accounting. It is his responsibility to invite the recruits to campus, to arrange their schedules,andfollowupwithanelectionofthecurrentfacultytoseewhetherweshouldextendandofferforaposition.Dr. Jiang also is the alternate tenured faculty on the DPC committee. A large service he performs for the Department ishisroleastheChairoftheAssessmentCommittee.Inthisposition,hehasfinalresponsibilityfortheDepartment’sassessmentprogramforAACSBaccreditation.HeisalsotheSocialChairfortheDepartment,arrangingsailingtripsandtrips to athletic events. Dr. Jiang also serves as an assistant marshal for the Department at graduation and is an activity of theBrownBagResearchseminarsandorganizedtheSCARFforumheldatCSUF.

EMMANUEL LARTEY, Department of EconomicsDr.Larteyhasmadeasignificantcontributiontosharedgovernanceattheuniversityoverthepastthreeyears.HeisamemberoftheAcademicSenateandhasservedasamemberofthefollowinguniversityandcollegecommittees:WASCSub-Committee,SearchCommitteeforVicePresidentofAdministrationandFinance/CFO,Outcomes-BasedFundingScreeningCommittee,FacultyAffairsCommittee,SearchCommitteeforMCBEAssociateDean,andCoreCourseCoordinatorsCommittee.Dr.Larteyhasservedactivelyonthefollowingdepartmentcommittees:ChairofStudentAffairs and Career Development, Search Committee, Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, and has chaired and served on several MA thesis committees. He has also been serving as Department Undergraduate Advisor and Faculty Advisor to the Economics Students Association.

HUNG-YUAN (RICHARD) LU, Department of AccountingDr.LuservestheDepartmentofAccountingandtheCollegeinmanyways.HeistheBetaAlpha/AccountingSocietyAdvisor.Inthisposition,heworksdailywithclubstudentsinmakingsuretheyaremeetingdeadlinesandcarryingouttheresponsibilities of their organizations. He serves the Department as Vice Chair. He is the Department Representative for theStudentInitiativeprogram.HehasservedasaCollegesenatoraswellasservingonseveraldepartmentcommitteesincluding Student Affairs and Graduate Curriculum Committee. He is also a member of the ad hoc development committee.HeparticipatesinMeettheFirmsandtheAwardsBanquettwiceeachyearandattendsWelcometoFullertonDayHealsoservestheUniversityasanassistantmarshal.Dr.LuisanactiveparticipantintheBrownBagresearchseminarsandactivelyhelpswithrecruitingnewfacultybyattendingrecruitingconferencesandmeetingwiththecandidateswhentheyarepresentoncampus.

ROBERT MEAD, Department of EconomicsDr.Mead’scontributionstofacultygovernanceanduniversityservicearenumerous,varied,andmeaningful.Heiscurrently serving his ninth year as a member of the Academic Senate, his second term as Chair of the Planning Resource andBudgetCommittee,andhisninthyearontheElectionsCommittee.HecurrentlyholdsthepositionofVice-ChairmanfortheBudgetCommitteeandwillserveasChairmannextyear.DuringAY2012-13,Dr.MeadservedaschairoftheStrategicPlanSteeringCommitteeandthenservedontheStrategicPlan’sAccountabilityTaskForcein2014-15.Hehasalso served on the WASC Interim Report Steering Committee and is currently a member of the Enrollment Management Committee.Atthedepartmentlevel,Dr.Meadisthecurrentvice-chair,hasservedastheChairoftheRecruitmentCommittee multiple years, and has been an active member of numerous other department committees.

SHAUN PICHLER, Department of ManagementThepurposeofthisnoteistonominatemycolleagueDr.ShaunPichlerfortheoutstandingserviceawardfortheperiodcoveringSpring2012toFall2014.Duringthattime,Dr.Pichlerhasservedonfivecollegecommittees,fiveuniversitycommittees, and six department committees, including multiple committee chair positions. He also formed and advises a successful student human resources club, sponsored by the national Society for Human Resource Management, and has createdanadvisoryboardfortheHRprogram.Dr.Pichlercanregularlybefoundadvisingstudentsduringofficehours,inthehallwaysofMihayloandafterclass.Heisextremelydedicatedtohisstudentsandadvisesmultipleindependentstudies,studentthesesandstudentresearchprojects,allwhilepublishingmultipletop-tierjournalpublicationseachyear.Heregularlyreviewsfortopjournalsinhisfield,andiscalledupontogivetalksatuniversitiesaroundtheglobe.HeisanactivefacultyaffiliateoftheCenterforLeadershipatCSUF,andworkscloselywithOC-basedorganizations.

OFIR TUREL, Department of Information Systems and Decision SciencesDr.Turelhaswholeheartedlyservedthebusinesscommunity,theuniversity,MCBE,andtheISDSdepartment.Sampleserviceengagementsinclude:(1)universitylevel:ongoingserviceonthefacultypersonnelcommitteeandpastserviceonthefacultyaffairscommittee,(2)MCBElevel:chairingthegraduatecommitteeoftheMCBEsenate,servingontheMCBEsenatemultipleyears,andservingontheMBAandHonorscommitteesaswellasseveraltaskforces,and(3)ISDSdepartmentlevel:chairedtheselectioncommitteeinthelasttworecruitmentcycles,andservedonthiscommitteeinpreviousrounds,servedonnumerousdepartmentalcommitteesandtaskforces.Inaddition,Dr.Turelservesoneditorialboardsoftwoprestigiousjournalsandkeyconferencesoninformationsystemsresearch(ICIS,ECIS,etc.).HeisalsohighlyinvolvedwiththebusinesscommunityandhighschoolsinOrangeCounty,andservesasadirectorontwoboardsofnot-for-profitorganizations.

CAROLYN COAL, Department of CommunicationsCarolyn Coal is an exceptional student advocate, mentor and advisor. She has been the CSUF AdClub Advisor since 2010. Under her mentorship, the club revised its constitution, developed a mission statement, revised its identity systemandnewsletter,andreorganizedthestructureofitsexecutiveboard,creatinggreaterefficienciesamongstudentresponsibilities.Inadditiontoitsbi-weeklyspeakerevents,theclubhaspilotedanumberofnewprograms,includinganannualadvertisingconference,whichisnowinitsfifthyear,andaProfessionalCircleadvisingnetwork,whichassistsstudents in securing internships. AdClub also maintains a multiplatform social media presence and a blog that attracts hundreds of students annually. Additionally, Professor Coal has served on many department, college and university committeeswithdedicationandcommitment.

TENZIN DORJEE, Department of Human Communication StudiesDr.TenzinDorjeeisaconsummateteamplayer;thefirsttovolunteerforanyfunctionorevent.HisservicetostudentsincludesworkingwithNewStudentOrientation.HisprofessionalserviceincludeshiselectionasanatlargememberoftheWesternStatesCommunicationAssociation.Hewasselectedtobethedepartment’srepresentativetotheWSCA’slegislativeassembly.Healsochair’stheWSCA’sDistinguishedTeachingAwardcommittee.Dr.Dorjee’scommunityservicecontributionsareexceptional.Insummer2013,hewasanunpaidvolunteerattheOfficeoftheDalaiLamainDharamsala,India.HehasservedastranslatorforlecturesandinterviewswiththeDalaiLamaonmultipleoccasions.HealsocompiledanumberofpublictalksandappearancesbytheDalaiLamaintothematiccategories.HehasbeeninterviewedbyradiohostsaboutTibetancultureandispresidentoftheTibetanAssociationofSouthernCalifornia.

SHELLEY JENKINS, Department of Radio-TV-FilmShelleyJenkinsisanoutstandinglecturerwhoisdedicatedtoexceptionalserviceactivitiesforstudentsandtheprofession.Among her service commitments, Shelley is the past and present chair of both the RTVF commencement committee and theRTVFscholarshipandawardscommittee.Sheregularlyservesasadepartment-appointedsummerstudentadvisor.Since2012,shehasbeenthefacultyadvisortotheRTVFhousingthemefloor.Beyondherformalassignments,Shelleyservesasanexceptionalstudentadvocate,mentorandadvisor.Additionally,thenewdepartmentchairexpresseshisappreciationforShelley’swillingnesstogivehertimeandcounseltohelphimnavigatethemyriadtasksofhisposition.

WALEED RASHIDI, Department of CommunicationsWaleedRashidiisanoutstandinglecturerwhoisdedicatedtoexceptionalserviceactivitiesforstudentsandtheprofession.AsfacultyadviserforCOMMWeek,ProfessorRashidisupervisesoneofthebiggestandmostcomplexweek-longcampus events and the largest convention in the College of Communications, featuring over 60 invited professional speakersandpanelistswithover2,000attendees.HisprofessionaloversightofCOMMWeekalonemakesProfessorRashidideservingofthisaward.Additionally,heistheadviseroftheEntertainmentandTourismClub,oneofthelargeststudent academic clubs at CSUF. He prepares and oversees professional panels, volunteer events, fundraising and the maintenanceoftheorganizationalstructure.ProfessorRashidihasalsoservedasthenewslettereditoroftheEntertainmentStudies Interest Group for the Association of Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, and he has assisted in the regional and state conventions of the Journalism Association of Community Colleges.

DOUG SWANSON, Department of CommunicationsDr.DougSwansonisamodelofservicewithinthedepartment,collegeanduniversity.Hissignificant,sustainedandlasting contributions include department service as acting chair, elected vice chair, lead faculty member on assessment andaccreditation,chairofthesearchcommittee,andfacultyadviserofthestudent-runadvertisingandpublicrelationsagency.Additionally,Dr.Swansonhasservedinleadershipservicepositionsattheuniversityandcollegelevelsonassessment, accreditation and strategic planning. He has also long been active in the Public Relations Society of America. Doug’svision,commitment,hardworkanddependabilityhavecontributedsignificantlytothesuccessandvibrancyoftheDepartment of Communications.

SHARON CHAPPELL, Department of Elementary and Bilingual EducationSharonChappellhascontributedtothedevelopmentofjust,equitableandinclusive(JEIE)educationacrossthedepartment,college,universityandinthecommunity.Sharonco-facilitatedacampus-wideBilingualFamilyNight,co-designededucationexhibitionsandeventswiththePollaklibraryonlanguagerights,biculturalism,LGBTQyouthandfamilies,andtheFAIREducationAct.Sheco-designedtherevisionoftheMSdiversityemphasistowardurbaneducationandsocialjustice,andregularlymentorsfacultyandstudentsoncurriculumdevelopmentandresearchdesignonJEIEtopics.Sheco-chairedthe1stannualArtsattheCenterConferencethiswinter,andleadstheWelcomeOCTaskForce,whichworksonbuildingwelcomingandinclusiveschoolsforLGBTQyouthandfamiliesthroughschoolclimateandcurricularreform.Sheiscurrentlyco-developingaprogrammaticpathwaytosupportunderrepresentedstudentsintheCollege of Education credential programs, including the development of a JEIE minor undergraduate degree.

LORETTA DONOVAN, Department of Elementary and Bilingual EducationLorettaDonovanco-directstheMSinCurriculumandInstructionwithaConcentrationinEducationalTechnologydegree—a16-monthonlinedegree.Forthepastsixyears,she,alongwithherco-directorDr.Green,havebeenresponsibleforrecruitmentandadvisementofthegraduatestudentsinthisprogram.Sinceitsinception,enrollmenthasgrownfromonestartingcohorttothreestartingeachfall(70+newstudents).Duringatypicalfallsemester,thenumberofbeginningandendingstudentsisapproximately135.Inadditiontoadvisingstudents,Dr.Donovanco-mentorsthegraduatestudentsbycollaboratingwiththemonconferencepresentationsandscholarlypublications.Sheco-organizesanannualconferenceheldatCSUFfocusingoncreativity,criticalthinking,andtechnologyinK-12,whichprovidesopportunitiesforstudentstopresentaswellasconnectwithothereducatorsthroughoutSouthernCalifornia.Dr.Donovanfostersarobustconnectionwithprogramgraduatesbystayingincontactwiththemthroughvarioussocialmediaanddigitaltoolsresulting in a strong alumni group.

EUGENE FUJIMOTO, Department of Educational Leadership Overthepastfiveyears,EugeneFujimotohasprovidedremarkableservicetotheDepartmentofEducationalLeadership,theCollegeofEducation,theUniversity,andareacommunities.Thoughstillanassistantprofessor,EugeneservedtwoyearsasthegraduateadviserfortheMasterofScienceinHigherEducation(MSHE)programwherehisservicewentwellbeyondtypicaladvisingworktoincludecollaborationwiththeDivisionofStudentAffairsinadministeringagraduateassistantprogram;facilitatingannualoff-campuseducationalretreatsfornewstudents;andadvisingastudentorganizationofgraduatestudentsinstudentaffairs.Additionally,hehasservedonseveralCollegeandUniversitycommittees.Off-campus,EugenehasprovidedleadershipfortheMaywoodproject—acomprehensiveeducationalfairdeliveredasacommunity-basedlearningprojectforstudentsinhisInstructionalLeadershipcourse.Thisfairhasservedhundredsofcommunitymembersandcontributedtothedevelopmentofacollege-goingculturewithinthatcommunity.

JULIAN JEFFERIES, Department of Reading EducationJulian Jefferies has developed a consistent service agenda to broaden the participation of underrepresented groups in educationbyworkingwithlocalcommunity,schools,universities,andtheglobalcommunityinordertoaddressissuesofsocialjusticeandeducationalequity.HehaspartneredwithbothdistrictsinAnaheim,PKto12,toprovideworkshopstoeducate teachers, administrators and parents, about the rights of undocumented students to attend college. DAVID NAISH, Department of Civil and Environmental EngineeringDr.NaishjoinedtheCivil&EnvironmentalEngineeringDepartmentinFall2010.Healwayshasthewillingnesstoprovidetheservicetothedepartment.AttheDepartmentlevel,hehasservedasafacultyadvisortotheITE(InstituteofTransportationEngineers)since2012.HealsohasperformedtheadministrativedutiesfortheEITexamreviewsessionsince2011.Thistaskinvolvedorganizingeachsessionbyfindingvolunteerinstructorsfromthroughoutthecollegeandscheduling the sessions appropriately. CAROLINE BAILEY, Department of Social WorkDr.CarolineBaileyprovidedavaluableservicetostudentsintheDepartmentofSocialWork,byspearheadinganinnovativeevententitled“BoxCity.”Thiseventprovided>100studentsauniqueexperiencethathelpedthemtoempathizewithhomelesspopulationsbyspendingthenightinacardboardbox.However,therewasalongplanningphaseleadinguptotheevent,whichincludedalengthyfundraisinganddonationcampaignthatresultedinthestudentsraisingatotalofcashandin-kinddonationsvaluedat>$50,000.Allofthedonationswereprovidedtoalocalhomelessservicesorganization.BoxCitywasnewtoCSUFandrequiredthenavigationofnumerousapprovalprocesses.WithDr.Baileyatthehelm,studentslearnedagreatdealaboutmacro-levelsocialworkpracticeandservicesforthehomeless.Finally,onethinginparticularsignifiedtheculminationofDr.Bailey’saccomplishmentwhenCongresswomanLorettaSanchezpresentedherwithcongressionalrecognitionforherefforts.

LEE BROWN, Department of KinesiologyDr.LeeBrownisaprofessorofKinesiologywhoseexpertiseisinstrengthandconditioning.HehasservedasPresidentoftheNationalStrengthandConditioningAssociation(NSCA)andPresidentoftheSouthwestRegionalChapteroftheAmericanCollegeofSportsMedicine(SWACSM).Lee’spassionisworkingwithstudentsintheHumanPerformanceLabwhichhasbecomeknowntomanyasthe“StrengthCenteroftheWest.”Overthepast3yearsLeehaschaired23graduatethesiscommittees mostly in the area of strength and conditioning and mentored 56 students in undergraduate and graduate internships andindependentstudyandresearchprojects.Duringthatsame3-yearperiod,Lee’smentoringofstudentshasresultedinanaverageof6studentpeerreviewedjournalarticlesand40conferencepresentationsperyear.InhisroleasDirectoroftheCenter for Sport Performance, Lee has been able to establish funding for numerous students to attend professional conferences. Lee’soutstandingserviceandcommitmenttostudentsistrulycommendableandworthyofrecognition.

MATT ENGLAR-CARLSON, Department of CounselingMattEnglar-Carlsonhasprovidedexceptionalservicetotheuniversity,communityandhisprofession.Thisincludes:IRBCommitteemember(since2002),IRBChairsince2013,facultymentorEPOCHSprogramfor4years,EPOCHSfacultymentorcoordinator14-15,14-15chairofCounselingDPC,searchcommitteefortheHHDDean,facilitatorofFDCDiversitySeries(presentationseriesandFLCfacilitator).Heisdepartmentadvisor,butgoesbeyondinmentoringstudentsinapplyfordoctoralprogramsandengagingintheirownresearch.Mattannuallyprovides5-6communitypresentationsandtrainingsonissuesrelatedtomenandmentalhealth,includingorganizingthe4thNationalPsychotherapywithMenconference at CSUF in June 2014. This conference included full day professional training for over 250 attendees, and acommunity-focuseddaythatprovidedprobonoconsultation/servicetocommunityorganizations.HeisamemberofAmericanPsychologicalAssociationWorkingGroupdevelopingGuidelinesforPsychologicalPracticewithBoysandMen.

GARY GERMO, Department of Human ServicesDr. Gary Germo demonstrates outstanding and sustained service on multiple levels since coming to CSUF in 2012. He mentored twoundergraduatestudentsinaresearchstudyresultinginthestudents’posterpresentationattheCSUFStudentScholarlyandCreativeActivitiesResearchDay,whichreceivedtheOutstandingResearchAward.ServedfortwoyearsasPanelJudgefortheStudentResearchCompetition,andparticipatedintheCSUFFacultyDevelopmentWorkshop:BestPracticesinMentoringUndergraduateResearch;hewasFacultyCo-advisorfortheHumanServicesStudentAssociation(HSSA)fortwoyears;heinitiatedaHUSRpermanenttextbookreserveforstudentsinthelibrary;attendedawebinarconferenceonaddressingtheneedsoftransgenderstudentsoncampus,andservedonaMaster’sinPsychologythesiscommittee.Inaddition,heisthesupervisorofthenewHHDPeer-TutorprogramforstudentsintheHumanServicesdepartment.Andthesenameonlyafewofhisservices.

MARIA MATZA, School of NursingDr. Maria Matza has led the Community Health Nursing clinical faculty team and very effectively supported course faculty, going the extra mile to host team meetings providing food for mind and stomach! She has pursued and procurednewclinicalsites,manyofthesenon-traditionalsitessuchaswithMigrantEducationRegionIXthatenrichstudentlearning.Thiscreativityinfindingandgainingentryintosuchsitesexpandsourcapacitytosupportstudentsin meeting learning outcomes. Dr. Matza is also very involved in her community and profession. She has coordinated MueveteUSA™, a program to reduce childhood and adolescent obesity in Latino/Hispanic youth. Over the past three years Dr. Matza has served on the Cultural Competency Advisory Committee of the National Association of School Nurses,asaBoardMemberoftheCaliforniaSchoolNursesOrganization,andPresidentoftheOrangeCountyChapterofthe National Association of Hispanic Nurses.

MICHELE MOUTTAPA, Department of Health ScienceDr.MicheleMouttapaisanAssociateProfessorintheDepartmentofHealthSciencewhoexcelsinstudentresearchmentorshipandhighimpactpractices.Overthepastfouryearsaloneshehaschaired21master’sstudentprojects,whichrepresenttheculminatingexperiencesinCSUF’saccreditedMaster’sinPublicHealthProgram.Dr.Mouttapafurtherpromotesstudentscholarshipoutcomes,havingguidedninestudent-ledpeerreviewedpublications,fourstudenteditorials,andfivein-processmanuscripts.ShealsoleveragesherroleaseditoroftheCalifornianJournalofHealthPromotion(apeer-reviewedjournal)topromotestudentdevelopment,includingnotonlystudentpublicationsbuttrainingandinvolvingoveradozenstudentsasmanuscriptpeer-reviewers.ThroughDr.Mouttapa’sroleasevaluatoroftheSt.JudeMedicalCenter’sHealthyCommunitiesInitiative,shehassupervisedover20studentreal-worldinternshipsandpracticumexperiences.Lastly,sheisleadingandlaunchingthedepartment’snewpeer-mentoringprogramthataimstoincreaseundergraduate student retention and timely graduation.

DEBRA ROSE, Department of KinesiologyDr.DebraRose,aprofessorinKinesiology,isinternationallyknownforherworkinGerokinesiology.Overthepast3yearsDebbiehasmadesignificantcontributionstotheUniversityandsurroundingCommunity.SheisinhighdemandforspeakingengagementsandconsultationstoOLLI,seniorlivingcommunities,adultdayhealthcareorganizations,hospitalrehabilitationunits,andprofessionalgroupsincludingtheSouthernCaliforniaAgingCouncil.Debbieco-foundedtheOrangeCountyHealthyAgingInitiativeleadingtothedevelopmentofanAnnualWellnessVisittoolkitandeducationalvideoforprimarycarephysiciansandhealthcareprovidersthatisanannualbenefittoallMedicarerecipients.Currentlyshe serves as a faculty member in the Mind Matters program sponsored by the Neurological Institute of Hoag Hospital designed for older adults experiencing early memory loss or early onset dementia and their immediate caregivers. Debbie providesopportunitiesformanyundergraduateandgraduatestudentstoengageinresearch,togainexperiencewitholderadultsoncampusandinthecommunity,andtoprepareforcareersinGerokinesiology.ManycommunitiesinOrangeCountyhavebenefittedsignificantlyfromDebbie’sexpertiseandeffort.

ELAINE RUTKOWSKI, School of NursingDr.ElaineRutkowskihasservedontheuniversityIRBcommitteesince2008.Asprocessesevolved,thecommitteerecognizedtheneedtoupdatethepaper-basedsystem.In2012,Dr.Rutkowskivolunteeredtorevamptheuniversity’sresearchapplication,andimplementthesystemwherebyresearcherswouldbeabletoaccessandcompletetheapplicationon-line.Thisupdatedapplicationhasbeenreceivedwithpraisefromfacultyandstudents.Followingthis,therebecameaneedtoin-servicetheresearchersacrosscampus.Dr.RutkowskicompiledaPowerpointpresentationforcommitteemembers to use to educate their department members about the updated application. In addition, several committee membershaveusedthispresentationinthecoursestheyteach.Since2013Dr.Rutkowskihasbeen“onamission”toassistSchoolofNursingcolleaguesinexpeditingtheirIRBapplicationsbypre-reviewingallapplicationspriortosubmission. This process avoids delays in implementation of faculty and student research.

BJ SNELL, School of NursingDr.BJSnellhasbeeninfluentialinhealthpolicydevelopmentandimplementationinCaliforniaforover3decades.ShehasservedastheDirectorofHealthPolicyfortheCaliforniaNurse-MidwivesAssociationandworkscollaborativelywithelectedandappointedstateofficialstodevelopandrevisepoliciesaffectingwomen’shealthcareandthepracticeofmidwifery.Forexample,sheworkedwiththeCSUChancellor’sOfficeduringthedevelopmentoftheDoctorofNursingPracticeprogramtoeducatepolicystaffabouttheimportanceofthisprogramwithintheCSU.Shealsocontributedtothedevelopmentofstateguidelinesforlicensingoffree-standingbirthcenters.Dr.Snellhasdevelopedpracticesitesthatprovideservicelearning/internshipstoCSUFstudents.SheattendsmanyofthesessionsoftheBoardofRegisteredNursingtoclarifyquestionsrelatedtonurse-midwiferypractice.Lastly,shesharesherexpertisewithavarietyofgroupswithintheuniversityandourcommunity.

JESSIE PEISSIG, Department of PsychologyDr. Jessie Peissig has consistently exceeded our expectation on serving students. For mentoring students, Dr. Peissig hasbeendevelopingandmaintainingPSYC496(TeachingofPsychology)sothatundergraduatestudentscanlearntheteachingaspectofpsychologybyassistingfacultymembers.Thenumberofstudentsenrolledinthishigh-impactpractice course increased from about 20 to nearly 60 per semester in three years and Dr. Peissig has been supervising allthesestudentswithoutanyteachingcredit.Dr.Peissigalsomentorsmultiplegraduateandundergraduatestudentsinher perception laboratory to prepare them for further academic careers. Also, Dr. Peissig has been a faculty advisor in ourpsychologyadvisementofficeandbecametheleadfacultyadvisorinthefall2014.Heradvisementactivitiesgofarbeyondtheexpectedhoursofadvisementandsheputsintirelessefforttohelpstudentsandwillinglycooperateswiththestudent success team of the college.

MICHAEL PEREZ, Department of SociologyDr.MikePerezhasservedasDepartmentChairandVice-chair(2011-2014),createdtheDepartmentStrategicPlanningCommittee,andhadleadershiponseveralcommittees.HisCollege-levelserviceincludescommitteesonAdvisement,Strategic Planning and Grants and Chairing Personnel committees in four other college departments. Under his guidance, the program consistently is among the top competitive teams in the country. JENNIFER BURNAFORD, Department of Biological ScienceDr.Burnafordisrecognizedforherexemplaryservicetostudents.ShehasledseveralsuccessfulinitiativestobuildalearningcommunityamongCNSMundergraduates.In2012sheorganizedthefirstBiologyUndergraduateResearchSymposium,theeventthatlaunchedtheCSUFSUCCESS(StudentsUnitedwithCommunityCollaboratorstoEnhanceSuccessinScience)Club,forwhichsheisafacultymentor.In2013shehelpedestablishandcurrentlyco-directstheBiologyUndergraduateResearchStudentTraining(BURST)program,designedtopromoteandenhanceresearchexperiencesinBiology.Eachyear,thesetwoprogramsengagehundredsofCNSMundergraduatesinthecultureandpracticeofscientificresearch.Sheisalsoadedicatedresearchmentor,andduringtheawardperiodguidedstudentstoatotalof35researchpresentations,28byundergraduates(including3awards)and7bygraduatestudents.Additionally,threeCSUFundergraduatesparticipatedwithherinsummerresearchinWashington,andshementoredstudentsfromtwootherinstitutions through the highly selective University of Washington Research Experiences for Undergraduates program.

BARBARA GONZALEZ, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Dr. Gonzalez has continuously engaged in impactful service activities for our department, college, and university. As one ofourkeygeneralchemistrycourseinstructorsandcoordinators,Dr.Gonzalezhascontributedenormouslytostudentsuccessinourgatewaymajorcoursewhichalsoservesmanyotherstudentsinourcollegeandbeyond.SheisconstantlyworkingwithlecturersandTAstoimprovethecourse.Dr.Gonzalez’sChemistryPlacementExam(CPE)hascontributedto more students passing chemistry and getting the assistance they need to be successful. She has devoted considerable timeanefforttowardtheexpansionofCPEofferingsforstudentswhichhasstreamlinedtheregistrationprocess.Shehastakenaleadershiproleinthecontinualdevelopmentandevolutionofdepartmentassessmentplanningandprogramlearningoutcomes.HerexperienceandsuccesswithNSFfundingcontributedgreatlytothepreparationandrecentfundingofanNSFS-STEMgrantentitledScholarships To Enhance ExcellenceintheChemicalandBiologicalResearch-BasedWorkforce(STEER)incollaborationwiththeDepartmentofBiologicalScience.STEER’soverarchinggoalistoenhancethequantityandqualityofCSUFSTEMundergraduateswhowilljointheresearch-basedindustryworkforceandwillrecruitandpreparestudentsspecificallyforentryintothebiosciencesworkforce.Onthenationallevel,shehasservedon several boards and committees for the American Chemical Society and the National Academies.

PAULA HUDSON, Department of Chemistry and BiochemistryDr.Hudsonhascontinuouslyprovidedhighqualityservicetoourdepartment,college,anduniversity.Shehashadanenormous impact on student advising by leading a successful effort to reimagine and revitalize our advising handouts, checklists,andpresentations.Shealsocontributedenormouslytothereorganizationofoursummerstudentorientationsfor freshman and transfer students and synthesized an innovative and informative presentation to engage the students. Inaddition,Dr.Hudsonhasplayedakeyroleinorganizingandstreamliningthegraduationcheckprocess.Asastudentcentered and highly effective advisor and mentor, she had devoted countless hours to helping students stay the course in developingcriticalthinkingandcommunicationskills,enablingthemtocompleteourdegreeprograminatimelyfashion.Shesuccessfullypilotedspecialadvisementsessionsthathasallowedustoeffectivelyscaleupfreshmanadvisingtogroups,providingamoreuniformandhighqualityexperience.Dr.HudsonhasalsoservedasafacultymentorfortheTransformingAcademicandCulturalIdentidadthroughBiliteracy(TACIB)program,whichisfundedbyNSFtoadvancestudentachievementinandattitudestowardmathandscience.Anoutstandingdepartmentanduniversitycitizen,Dr.HudsonhasservedonnumerousandvariedcommitteesincludingtheSocial,theLowerDivisionCaucus,Graduate,Faculty Search, Department Personnel, and Curriculum Committees. CHERIE ICHINOSE, Department of MathematicsForthepastthreeyearsDr.Ichinosehasledthedepartmentefforttoretoolseveral“bottleneck”coursesinthemathematicsdepartment,includingcollegealgebraandpre-calculus.Thesecoursesarebeingrestructuredusinga“flipped”classroomdesign,inwhichstudentswatchvideosonmathematicaltopicsoutsideofclassandthenusethemajorityofin-classtimeactivelyengagedinproblemsolvinginsmallgroups.Basedonpilotclassesoverthepastyear,successrateshavenoticeablyriseninthesecourses,withsignificantlymorestudentssuccessfullycompletingthecourseduringtheirfirstattemptthanstudentshavedoneinthepast.Dr.IchinoseiscurrentlyinvolvedwiththeOfficeoftheChancellortohelpotherCSU’sreplicatethismodelontheircampusesaswell.Dr.Ichinose’sworkhasthepotentialtohelpthousandsofstudentseachyeartosuccessfullycompletetheirentry-levelmathematicscourserequirementinatimelyway.

RICHARD LATON, Department of Geological SciencesDr.Latonhascontributedsustainedservicetothesuccessourdepartmentandtothefieldofhydrogeology.Dr.LatonhasleadeffortstobolsterGeology’salumnirelationsbyorganizingandrunningourannualAlumniReception,ourannualUndergraduateResearchDay,andourAlumnioftheYearAward.Theseeffortshaveelevatedouralumnioutreachandfundraisingefforts.HeregularlycommitshistimeasaguestspeakerorpanelistineventssuchasNSM’ssymposiumonFracking.Dr.Latonhasanextraordinaryrecordofprofessionalservicethroughhiseffortsasadecade-longleaderonmultiplevolunteerboardsinhydrogeology.TheseeffortsresultedinrecentprestigiousawardsfromtheNationalGroundWaterAssociationincludingtheOliverAwardforoutstandingcontributionsandtheKeithAndersonAwardforoutstandingservice.Dr.Laton’ssustainedserviceeffortshaveelevatedourstatusinaleadingindustryandhaveincreasedourvisibilitywithouralumnibase.

BOGDAN SUCEAVĂ, Department of MathematicsDuringthereviewperiodDr.SuceavăhasestablishedtheFullertonMathematicalCircle.ThisoutreachprogrambringshighlygiftedK-12studentstocampustoparticipateinenrichmentactivities.Currentlywellover100studentsfromthelocalregionregularlyattendtheMathCircleandseveralparticipantshavesubsequentlybeenCaliforniachampionsinvariouscompetitions.Dr.SuceavătrainsundergraduateandgraduateCSUFstudents,whoareinterestedinacareerinteaching,tofacilitatetheMathCirclesessions.ThisgivesthemvaluableteachingexperienceandhopefullywillsubsequentlyleadtosimilarenrichmentprogramsbeingintroducedintheK-12system.Participantsandfacilitatorshavepresentedtheirworkatvariousvenuesandseveralprofessionalpublicationshaveresulted.InadditiontohisMathCircleactivities,Dr.SuceavăhasalsoorganizedthetrainingofCSUF’sPutnamteam,whichconsistentlyranksinthetop25%acrossthenation.Finally,Dr.SuceavăorganizedtwoAmericanMathematicalSocietySpecialResearchSessions.

MIKE DEMARS, Pollak Library ItismypleasuretonominateMikeDeMarsfortheOutstandingFacultyServiceaward.Inadditiontohiscommitmentsas the Council of University Library Faculty president, the Department Personnel Committee member, Recruitment Committee,memberandchair,andPRBCmember,Mr.DeMarshasfoundtimetocontributetowritingthediscoveryportionoftheCSU’sUnifiedLibraryManagementSystemRFP,tohelptest,writescenarios,andevaluatepossibleproducts.Henowservesasourcampus’informationofficerregardingthisCSUsystem-wideproject.Hedevelopedand conducted faculty and student surveys to help the Library to improve its service to its constituents. BRUCE RUBIN, American Language ProgramMr.BruceRubinisnominatedforoutstandingservicetostudentsandtheuniversity.BruceRubinjoinedCSUFin2001asalecturerintheAmericanLanguageProgram(ALP).Heisarolemodel,mentor,andtrainerforteachingexcellence.Hisstudentratingsofinstructionandcommentsareconsistentlythehighestamongall50+lecturerswhoteachinourdepartment.Bruce’sgeneralapproachtoteachingistoengageinternationalstudentsinalllevelsofEnglishproficiency.Intheclassroom,heusesinnovativeactivitiestohelpstudentsengagewithmaterialsandlearncriticalthinkingandcommunicationskills.Heisgenuinelyopentostudents’opinionsandinspiresthemtobemoreconfidentintheirreadingandwritingskills.Outsideclass,heisgenerouswithhistime,makinghimselfavailabletostudentsandoftenattendsallstudent-orientedactivitiestoshowhissupportandinvolvementinuniversitylife.Hetakesprideinhelpingstudentssucceed.Although“scholarlyandcreative”workisnotrequiredofourlectures,BruceisoneoftheveryfewlecturersinourdepartmentwhohasrecentlyauthoredanacademicreadingbookforESLlearners,publishedbyOxfordUniversityPress.(2nded.2012).HisbookiswidelyusedbyESLinstructorsinourdepartmentandotherIntensiveEnglishProgramsnation-wide.Inadditiontohisteachingexcellenceandprofessionalservice,BruceistheassistantdirectoroftheAmericanLanguageProgram(since2014).Inthisnewrole,Bruceoftengoeswellbeyondtheresponsibilitiesnormallyexpected.Hehasbeenleadingseveralcommitteesinthedepartment(e.g.CurriculumReviewCommittee,CompositionReviewCommittee,ALPSelf-StudyCommittee,FacultySearchCommittees).HehasalsotakentheleadintheDepartment’sassessmentactivities,participatingintrainings,providingreportsandobjectives,andisthefacultyliaisonforExtendedEducation(UEE)ontheCSUFassessmentteam.Inhis“spare”time,BrucemakestimetovolunteerastheStaffPhotographerfortheCooperCenterArcheologicalandPaleontologicalCenter.Bruceconsistentlydemonstratesdedicationtoexcellenceasadynamicinstructor,mentorandaverywellrespectedleader.Hiscontributionsto the department, university and the profession deserve to be recognized.
