Load the Bus - Depart to Manitowoc WI

Arrive at the Ferry – SS Badger by 1:00 PM

2:00 PM – 7:00 PM - Free time on the Ferry

7:00 PM Arrive in Ludington MI – Depart to Detroit on the Bus.

Arrive in Detroit about 12:30 AM

Why Detroit?

• It is not the best city for the Gathering• It is the best mission for the Gathering

• Population went from 3 million to 700,000• 80,000 empty buildings• Manufacturing Jobs - 200,000 to 20,000• Only 7% of 8th graders can read at grade level

• “Soft opening” at 5:30• There is no reason to show up early• Concession close at 7:30 (even if you are in

line)• Backpacks will be inspected• No Pushing!!!! 7,500 seats on the floor• The floor is not closing (except during a set)

– No restrooms down there!

Proclaim Justice Day 2

• Detroit is 140 Sq. miles• Anticipate 10-25 ride to site• We will go only where we have been invited• Only where it is safe• You learn assignment on the bus• Everyone Brings: gloves, shoes, shirt• Provided: Story teller, college student

• Synod Band to play• Bishop to preach• Time to learn and

worship together

• Will be able to use your Journals all week and beyond.

Proclaim Community Day 4

• Cobo Center• 11 Football Fields• Cross in the Center all paths lead to the

cross• Shoes, water bottle, Bible• Zip line, bumper cars, creative expression,

build a house, food court, resting place, bands

• Donate Hair, blood, money• Colleges

Community Life“Radically Different”

• In the early morning or late afternoon

• Downtown• Programmatic• Less like a High School

Dance• More like a town fair • Scattered Locations

Safety & Security• What is the most dangerous?

– Trips have been historically safe—we plan for everything!– Most issues occur in the hotel room– Flip Flops

• Room = barefoot• Out of room = flip flops• Out of hotel = shoes

• Curfews: 15 and under cannot be out past 10 without an adult

• Curfews: 16 and Under cannot out after 11 without an adult

• You are encouraged to bring your cell phone! Make sure your Chaperone has your number & you have theirs!!

We are very close to Canada!! *** Please check with your cell phone provider on how you avoid International calling/data charges!!

4 Giving opportunities• 1) Sunday morning offering

– World Hunger, missionaries, Youth ministries, SE Michigan synod

• 2) 2nd Mile giving for ELCA hunger—hopefully a donor will match up to 500,000 in donations

• 3) Diapers and Food items• 4) Online giving for service projects (support a

Proclaim Justice project)
