the food safety modernization act

the fDa food safety modernization act (fsma) was signed into law by President obama on January 4, 2011. it aims to ensure the u.s. food supply is safe by shifting federal focus from responding to contamination after it has occurred to preventing it from occurring.

under the fsma, retailers should have a written food safety plan in place. the haCCP Program provides a documented plan aimed at reducing, eliminating and controlling hazards before food is served to the public.
